Students put together care packages for Eau Claire Fire Rescue

Students from St. Mark Lutheran School in Eau Claire took time to put care packages together for the Eau Claire Fire Department. This was part of an annual Thanksgiving service project, but packing for firefighters was a first for the school. All 90 students at St. Mark put the packages together. "It's something we do a number of times per year, where we divide up the students into different teams - where we have preschools, kindergarten, first graders and so on all the way through the grades - just to get the kids working together in teams, so they can get a little bit of team-building and and get them working together," said St.

Freedom Fire Dept. eyes new $3.9-million building to address safety concerns

Freedom’s fire department is trying to convince the town that it needs a new building for its emergency responses. The town’s fire chief says the department is running out of space and safety has taken a backseat. “We have guys getting dressed to leave on a call two feet away from a moving vehicle creating a safety concern,” said Mark Green, chief of the Freedom Fire Dept.

City of Milwaukee introduces 'PulsePoint,' app that notifies users of nearby medical emergencies

The Milwaukee Fire Department is getting on board with an app saving lives all across the country. The app, "PulsePoint," notifies people of medical emergencies around them. The Milwaukee Fire Department says this is very helpful for medical emergencies in crowded areas, like Fiserv Forum. They can send an alert to everyone with the app, so they can perform CPR before first responders arrive.

Firefighters say unattended candle likely sparked Town of Neenah blaze

A candle is believed to have sparked a house fire in the Town of Neenah Monday night. At 8 p.m., the Town of Neenah Fire Department was called to the 900 block of Terra Cotta Drive. They arrived to find smoke and flames coming from "multiple sides" of the second story of the home. Town of Neenah and Fox Crossing firefighters fought the fire.

Madison Fire Department uses Babes Grill & Bar for hands-on training

Just one week after Babes Grill & Bar shut its doors, the restaurant is open again for a unique opportunity. Before the building is completely torn down, Babes owner Lynn Haker allowed the Madison Fire Department to use the restaurant as a training ground for real-life scenarios. “We've taught and taught and taught them for 10 weeks.

Fire destroys building in rural Jackson County

A fire destroyed a building Sunday night in rural Jackson County. Described as a wood-frame outbuilding, the structure at N4334 Cloverdale Road in the town of Irving was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, according to the Black River Falls Fire Department. A man who had tried to recover property from the burning building suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns.

Dog rescued after falling into icy pond in Madison

Madison firefighters rescued a dog from icy water Saturday after it ran out onto an icy pond at Warner Park Dog Park, according to a news release. Fire officials said two people tried rescuing the dog, but they fell through the ice in the process. When Engine Co. 10 arrived, the people had gotten out of the water.

Two people released from hospital after Sparta house fire

An update on a house fire in Sparta. The fire happened just after 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 23 in the 300 block of Walrath Street. As of Sunday, Fire Chief Mike Arnold says a mother and a daughter rescued from the fire suffered some burns and smoke inhalation. They have since been released from the hospital.

Man hurt in West Allis house fire

The West Allis Fire Department responded to a call about a house fire near 110th and Madison streets. It happened early Friday morning. Fire crews climbed up to the roof to battle the fire. There is little damage to the outside of the house, but restoration crews tell 12 News that there is significant smoke and water damage inside.

No one was home, but smoke alarms alerted neighbors to fire in Bellevue

Smoke detectors helped save a house from a fire even though no one was home. Brown County dispatchers received a report of smoke alarms sounding off on the 1400-block of McRae Circle. Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the basement. They found their way through heavy smoke to a mechanical room in the basement to put out the fire.

Off-duty Milwaukee firefighter recounts moment he was shot by attempted car thief

An off-duty Milwaukee firefighter who was shot by a would-be car thief is sharing his story for the first time. Steven Budnowski, 35, was shot in the leg Nov. 11. "I hear one gunshot, and that's when I felt the pain and I fell to the ground," he said. The shooting happened in the driveway of Budnowski's home after he confronted the shooter as the shooter was going through his car.

Firefighter's vehicle stolen in Oregon when responding to auto collision

A 2012 four-door maroon Dodge Ram 1500 belonging to an Oregon firefighter was stolen around 9 p.m. Wednesday, but then later located outside Oregon. According to a Facebook post, the firefighter left home at 9 p.m. to respond to an auto collision with injuries on Highway 14. In the rush to help those in the collision, he left his keys inside the truck and took the car from the fire station's parking lot.

Early detection by smoke alarm helped firefighters stop fire in downtown Madison business

Firefighters stopped a fire from breaking out in a downtown business at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, in part because of early detection by a smoke alarm. According to a release, a resident in the 300 block of North Randall Street woke up at 4:30 a.m. to the sound of an alarm and found the common area "very smoky.

The Milton Joint Fire Commission is focusing on two local options for updating Milton’s aging fire station: rebuilding in the existing location or relocating to city-owned land near the post office. Bartender credited for extinguishing fire at Kaukauna bar

A bartender is being credited for extinguishing a fire at The Roundabout Bar & Grill late Tuesday night. The Kaukauna Fire Department says smoke and fire could be seen coming from a wall, and the bartender used a fire extinguisher to control the spread of the fire. Firefighters say smoke was still present in the building when they arrived.

Bellevue Fire Department demonstrates turkey fryer dangers

Some people swear by frying that turkey for the tastiest Thanksgiving dinner. The Bellevue Fire Department demonstrated what not to do when using a turkey fryer. ‘It felt like it wasn’t real:’ Fire damages 151-year-old building in downtown Grafton

A business that has been a part of Grafton for decades went up on flames early Wednesday morning, Nov. 20. Before the sun came up -- flames and flashing lights lit up downtown Grafton. 7 displaced by fire sparked by woman using lighter on box spring in Racine

Seven people were displaced after a young woman used a lighter to burn loose strings on a box spring at a Racine home on Tuesday morning, Nov. 19. It happened shortly before 11 a.m. on Frank Avenue near 6th Street. Officials with the Racine Fire Department said the 19-year-old woman was using the lighter on the box spring in a bedroom on the second floor when fire got inside the box spring and quickly grew out of control.
