Firefighters respond to large fire at apartment complex in East Troy

Firefighters on Thursday morning, May 7 responded to the scene of a fire at the Honey Creek Apartments in East Troy. The came in around 8 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found heavy flames and smoke pouring from the roof of the building. Officials say the fire broke out the second floor. More than 20 departments responded to the scene.

Fire destroys De Pere home

De Pere Fire Rescue says a fire destroyed a house Wednesday night. Fire crews were called to the home on Jordan Road at the intersection with Saddlebrook Lane just before 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6. Neighbor Jason Dahlke tells us he saw an orange glow while watching TV. He says he called 911 and helped make sure his neighbor was safely out of the house.

Kenosha Fire Department changing hiring practice to increase applicant pool

Hoping to increase the pool of qualified candidates, the Kenosha Fire Department is shifting its hiring practice for new firefighters. The department this week posted its new requirements for applicants, the shift eliminating the requirement that candidates have firefighting training to apply. Kenosha Fire Chief Charles Leipzig said the change will open the door to more applicants.

Follow Up: Appleton names northside park in honor of fallen firefighter Mitch Lundgaard

A northside neighborhood park will be named Lundgaard Park in honor of fallen firefighter Mitch Lundgaard to ensure his sacrifice in the line of duty isn't forgotten. The Common Council voted unanimously Wednesday to name the 7-acre park in memory of Lungaard, who was fatally shot by a gunman during a May 15, 2019, medical call at the Valley Transit Center.

Reedsburg restaurant hosting spaghetti supper fundraiser for fire department

Every year, the Reedsburg Fire Department hosts a spaghetti supper, which raises money for the department to purchase equipment. With this year’s event postponed due to COVID-19 concerns and restrictions on gatherings, J’s Pub and Grill decided to host a smaller fundraiser to support the department. Owner Jayson Pettit said he was disappointed when he heard the Reedsburg Fire Department postponed its annual spaghetti supper due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Unattended cooking causes Green Bay garage fire, $80,000 in damages

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to 2426 Robinson Ave. Tuesday at 3:28 PM for reports of a house on fire. Upon arrival, crews located the fire in the attached garage which was spreading into the attic. Firefighters made entry into the garage to knock down the fire while other firefighters pulled soffits and ceilings to extinguish the fire in the attic.

Madison fire officials ask for public's help to solve arson cases during Arson Awareness Week

This week is Arson Awareness Week, and state leaders and fire officials are sharing strategies to combat arson problems in local communities. According to the National Fire Protection Association's fire loss data, an estimated 25,500 structure fires were intentionally set in 2018, an increase of 13 percent over the year before.

As spring brings the wildfire season to central Wisconsin, longtime residents of Adams County worry it also could bring a repeat of the Cottonville fire that scorched thousands of acres and dozens of homes 15 years ago. The fire broke out May 5, 2005, as a 55-year-old Racine man was trying to clear brush on property near Big Flats.

Fire reported on second-floor balcony of Fond du Lac apartment building

Fond du Lac firefighters are trying to determine what started a fire on the second-floor balcony of an apartment building. Fire/rescue responded to an eight-unit apartment building at 691 E. Scott St. The fire on the balcony was threatening the structure. The apartment building's fire alarm was working.

Appleton park could be named for fallen firefighter, Mitch Lundgaard

The City of Appleton might name a park after a fallen firefighter. Driver-Engineer Mitch Lundgaard was shot and killed while on a medical call at the downtown transit center nearly one year ago. Mayor Jake Woodford says the park is on the northeast side, next to Fire Station No. 6. He believes it would be a fitting tribute, and having it next to the station only added to it.

Cash-strapped and volunteer-dependent, Wisconsin’s rural EMS providers scramble to keep responders safe

Woman injured, dog killed in house fire in Merrill

A woman was injured and a dog was killed in a house fire Sunday in Lincoln County. Authorities responded around 4:50 p.m. to a report of a kitchen fire in a home on County P in Merrill, according to the Pine River Fire Department. Officials said a Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene first and tried to use a fire extinguisher on the fire, but he was driven out by heavy smoke.

Wildfire warnings issued for central Wisconsin

The state Department of Natural Resources and National Weather Service have issued a red flag warning for 12 central Wisconsin counties out of concern for brewing wildfire conditions. One person taken to hospital following apartment building fire in Sun Prairie

One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation following a fire at a Sun Prairie apartment building. Firefighters responded to reports of smoke and an active fire alarm Thursday at an apartment along the 1000 block of O’Keefe Avenue. Crews found a fire inside one unit had been extinguished by a single fire sprinkler, according to a release by the Sun Prairie Fire Department.

Paratech Ambulance Services dedicate rigs to COVID-19 transports, up safety procedures

The COVID-19 pandemic is an untraveled road, even for those trained in emergencies. While getting potential coronavirus patients where they need to go, ambulance services are making changes. Paratech Ambulance, which covers the Milwaukee area through Madison to the Illinois border, has transported more than 700 possible COVID-19 patients, with 150 being confirmed, since early March.

Apartment fire in Racine causes $150k in damage, no injuries reported

The Racine Fire Department responded to a call of an active fire in a second-floor apartment near 6th Street and Wisconsin Ave around 3:15 p.m. on Friday, April 30. Upon arrival, heavy fire was seen coming from an apartment on the second floor. According to officials, it took firefighters over an hour to extinguish the fire.
