Firefighters on Thursday morning, May 7 responded to the scene of a fire at the Honey Creek Apartments in East Troy. The came in around 8 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found heavy flames and smoke pouring from the roof of the building. Officials say the fire broke out the second floor. More than 20 departments responded to the scene.

De Pere Fire Rescue says a fire destroyed a house Wednesday night. Hoping to increase the pool of qualified candidates, the Kenosha Fire Department is shifting its hiring practice for new firefighters. The department this week posted its new requirements for applicants, the shift eliminating the requirement that candidates have firefighting training to apply. Kenosha Fire Chief Charles Leipzig said the change will open the door to more applicants.

A northside neighborhood park will be named Lundgaard Park in honor of fallen firefighter Mitch Lundgaard to ensure his sacrifice in the line of duty isn't forgotten. The Common Council voted unanimously Wednesday to name the 7-acre park in memory of Lungaard, who was fatally shot by a gunman during a May 15, 2019, medical call at the Valley Transit Center.

Every year, the Reedsburg Fire Department hosts a spaghetti supper, which raises money for the department to purchase equipment. The Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to 2426 Robinson Ave. Tuesday at 3:28 PM for reports of a house on fire. Upon arrival, crews located the fire in the attached garage which was spreading into the attic. Firefighters made entry into the garage to knock down the fire while other firefighters pulled soffits and ceilings to extinguish the fire in the attic.

The City of Appleton might name a park after a fallen firefighter. Driver-Engineer Mitch Lundgaard was shot and killed while on a medical call at the downtown transit center nearly one year ago. Mayor Jake Woodford says the park is on the northeast side, next to Fire Station No. 6. He believes it would be a fitting tribute, and having it next to the station only added to it.

A woman was injured and a dog was killed in a house fire Sunday in Lincoln County. Authorities responded around 4:50 p.m. to a report of a kitchen fire in a home on County P in Merrill, according to the Pine River Fire Department. Officials said a Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene first and tried to use a fire extinguisher on the fire, but he was driven out by heavy smoke.
