History Channel star judges Halligan bars for 'Cast in Steel' contestants at Milwaukee School of Engineering

VIDEO: The Milwaukee School of Engineering is playing host to a competition drawing students from all over the world, and this year's "Cast in Steel" contestants found insight from their local fire departments. "Lt. Schultz, Engine 37, and this is The Love Handle." The Boston Fire Department was called on by students who wanted to know if the Halligan bar they crafted would work on the job.

Area and Wisconsin DNR fire officials say wild land fires are up significantly this year so far

A grass fire just south of Eau Claire is one of several that fire crews responded to in recent days. “7 fires over the course of a week is a pretty busy week. Fire in Green Bay causes $60K in damages, leaves three without home

Three Green Bay residents are without a home after a fire on the 800 block of School Place on Monday afternoon. According to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, firefighters were sent to the 800 block of School Place shortly after 1:15 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found smoke and fire coming from the second floor of a multi-family occupancy.

Fire on Madison's west side displaces family

A fire on the city's west side displaced a family Sunday night, according to the Madison Fire Department. Madison Fire Chief Chris Carbon said crews were called the the 5100 block of Loruth Terrace around 7:44 p.m. by neighbors reporting smoke and flames coming from a home's garage. Carbon said when crews arrived, they saw heavy black smoke and the garage on fire.

Big Bend landscaping business destroyed after massive fire

Multiple agencies responded to a structure fire in Big Bend on Friday, April 19. It happened near Industrial and Edgewood. It was just after 9 p.m. when Greg Peterson got the call. "Sick. Sick to my stomach," said Peterson. "I mean look at the steel, just crumbled. Just melted.” His longtime landscaping business, Extreme Exteriors, went up in flames.

Superior Firefighters Respond To Partial Building Collapse, Natural Gas Leak

VIDEO: A partial building collapse and natural gas leak in Superior Thursday afternoon caused some tense times at the Franklin Apartments and the Happy Hearts Childcare center located next door. The incident started when a small section on the outside of the apartment building collapsed. The debris fell into the area where the apartment’s boilers were located as well as where the main gas line entered the building.

Waupaca County Sheriff's Office launches text to 911 program for emergencies

The Waupaca County Sheriff's Office has launched a text to 911 program. This means if you're in an emergency, you can send a text to 911. The sheriff's office said the texting program should only be used when a call is not possible. "For instance, if the caller is deaf, hard-of-hearing, speech impaired or when speaking out loud would put the caller in danger," authorities said in a news release.

Fire alarm unveiled for Milwaukee deaf, hard of hearing residents

Squirrel may have contributed to solar panel fire at Madison home

Madison Fire Department officials said a squirrel may have played a role in a solar panel fire that occurred at a home Monday afternoon on the city's far east side. Crews were called to a home in the 7100 block of Littlemore Drive just before 2:45 p.m. Smoke and flames could be seen coming from a solar panel on the roof of the home.

City of Janesville names its next fire chief

The City of Janesville has named a sole finalist for the position of fire chief. The city announced Tuesday the selection of Ryan Murphy as its next fire chief, pending the acceptance of an offer letter from the city. The Police and Fire Commission voted to select Murphy as the sole finalist after a nationwide recruitment and extensive selection process.

Central Wisconsin fire departments speak out amid high fire warnings

VIDEO: "High" and "Very High" fire warnings can be seen across the state. On Sunday, Marshfield fire crews responded to a shed fire off of East 17th Street. Fire officials say it caught other sheds on fire as well, and started when a homeowner left the fire for just a few minutes. Menomonee Falls building fire; small explosions noted

City of Madison announces a third CARES team will serve during peak call hours

The City of Madison announced on Monday that a third CARES team has been activated to respond to calls for service on weekdays. ‘CARES 3' will be on duty from noon to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and will respond from the old Town of Madison fire station on Fish Hatchery Road. The team will allow the program to expand its service capacity in response to ongoing demand.
