Fire causes $100,000 in damage to Bellevue trailer home

A fire at a trailer home caused up to $100,000 worth of damage Saturday night. Firefighters responded to a report around 9 p.m. of a fire in a trailer home in the 400 block of Miron Court. They arrived to find the trailer engulfed in flames and two garages on fire, according to the Bellevue Fire Department.

230-acre wildfire in Juneau County contained

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ fire crews remain on scene Sunday after 234-acres burned at the Necedah Wildlife Refuge. The DNR ruled debris burning as the cause of the fire that began Saturday. Upland grass and timber burned until it reached wetter ground in the marsh. They said the weather conditions caused a fire danger to be very high on Saturday and evacuations occurred along 17th Street and Highway 80.

70+ people without a home after Madison apartment catches fire

Authorities say more than 70 people are without a home after an apartment building caught fire on Madison's southwest side Saturday afternoon. The Madison Fire Department says several engines arrived just after 1 p.m. to the three-story apartment in the 3100 block of Muir Field Road. The fire took at least an hour to put out with high winds making it difficult for crews.

Madison Fire Department saves lives while risking their own to coronavirus

As the Madison Fire Department worked quickly to put out an apartment fire Saturday afternoon, precautions against fighting the coronavirus became tougher to follow. “When we get in a big fire fight like this, the social distancing rules kind of go out the window,” Chief Steven Davis said. “The [personal protective equipment], the paper, filter masks that we see them wear on calls and things kind of goes out the window because they have a big job to do.

Wrightstown firefighters honor one of their own with surprise parade

During the safer at home order there's been an uptick in drive by parades, which are seen as a safe way to celebrate birthdays and other occasions. Saturday in Wrightstown one of those parades was held as a way to honor someone who's a community hero. "One of our members, he's been a firefighter in the village of Wrightstown for over 40 years, has been battling cancer,” said Wrightstown Fire Captain John Christensen.

Man arrested in connection with numerous suspicious fires in Fond du Lac area

A 43-year-old North Fond du Lac man was arrested Thursday, April 16 on charges related to numerous suspicious fires that recently occurred in the Fond du Lac area. Officials say this arrest is the result of a collaborative investigation between four law enforcement agencies and two fire departments.

One person injured following Janesville mobile home fire

One person was injured following a mobile home fire on Thursday. According to Janesville Fire, firefighters were dispatched to the 500 block of Kentucky Drive in Janesville at 5:18 p.m. for a report of a mobile home fire. The fire was quickly brought under control, but the mobile home was called a total loss with an estimated $50,000 in damage.

West Allis Fire Department says thanks, but please don’t bring us any more pizza or coffee

No more pizza or coffee, please. That’s the message the West Allis Fire Department is sharing with the community after many well-meaning folks have offered free coffee, pizza or other food to fire station personnel. “To be honest we don't need free pizza or free cups of coffee,” the West Allis Fire Department posted on Facebook April 14.

Peshtigo Police and Firefighters Team Up To Help Five Year Old Celebrate Birthday

Harper Kamin, celebrated her fifth birthday on Tuesday, April 14 and got quite a surprise. City of Peshtigo Police Officers and several City of Peshtigo Firefighters stopped by her home to wish her a happy birthday with police cars and a fire truck with emergency lights on. Harper's mother Jessie Dembroski said it really made her day special.

Cash-strapped and volunteer-dependent, Wisconsin’s rural EMS providers scramble to keep responders safe

The reality of the COVID-19 pandemic struck Rob Puls on March 19, when Bayfield County confirmed its first positive case of the virus. Beloit firefighter headed to COVID-19 front lines on East Coast

A Beloit firefighter, who also is a reservist with the U.S. Navy, is being called to active duty in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Beloit Fire Department. Jefferson Fire Department debuts new way of cleaning their equipment

To protect themselves from coronavrius, firefighters in Jefferson have a new way of wiping down their equipment after making runs. They’re applying a mixture of bleach and water to the insides their ambulances and fire engines as well as on the surfaces of their gear. “Any of the equipment that is actually in the ambulance -- the cot, the monitor -- is available to be decontaminated with the same product,” said Jefferson Assistant Fire Chief Jerry Wendt.

Wind fuels abandoned campfire, causes lengthy fire fight in wooded area of Madison

Firefighters spent more than five hours putting out a fire started by an abandoned campfire, according to a release by the Madison Fire Department. Crews were to the 4100 block of Westerfield Lane around 9 a.m. Monday. Someone in the area called 911 after noticing smoke coming from a wooded area, the release said.

3 West Bend firefighters tested positive for COVID-19; 3 others negative

Three West Bend firefighters tested positive for the coronavirus, fire officials announced Monday, April 13. Three others tested negative. Fire officials said Monday two firefighters developed symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and were removed from work. Their tests came back positive. One recovered and returned to work, and the other was symptom free Monday and expected back at work by week’s end.

Brown County: First responders change protocol amid COVID-19 pandemic

It's National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week and although they will always answer that 911 call for help, this pandemic has changed first responder protocol. Before emergency services are dispatched, telecommunicators ask a series of questions to determine if the caller may have COVID-19. Some of the questions the dispatcher will ask include: Do you have a fever? Do you have a new or worsening cough? Do you have shortness of breath? Have you come in contact with a person who had these symptoms or is known to have COVID-19? Depending on the callers answers, the dispatcher will let emergency first responders know exactly what to expect when they get to the caller's house.

Hearts for healthcare: Sheboygan firefighters pay tribute to healthcare workers

Firefighters in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, created a giant heart using their fire engines on April 11. They called on others to join the #HeartsForHealthCare trend and post their own tributes to people fighting the spread of the coronavirus. “We encourage the public to also join us either at their local fire department or in their own driveways, sidewalks, or windows by drawing hearts for healthcare to show your love for those on the front lines fighting,” the department wrote on April 8.

Fire burns barn, camper in Norrie

A barn and camper were burnt Saturday off of Pine Road in the Town of Norrie. Lt. Will Stuart with the Marathon County Sheriff's Office said the property owner was trying to burn a box when the ashes and embers caught the barn and camper on fire. He said this was not the owner's primary residence. No one was hurt.

1 injured following Oconto County wildfire

DNR officials say at least one person was injured during a wildfire early Saturday afternoon in Oconto County. According to the Wisconsin DNR, they weren't sure if the person injured was part of the responsible party, or if it was someone else. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, and hasn't been released to WBAY.
