Milwaukee revamps storm response following 'unprecedented' damage

Milwaukee received more than 1,000 calls for response to storm related damage between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, August 11, between the Milwaukee Fire Department and the Department of Public Works. "In some fashion this is an unprecedented storm because of the number of people who are reporting downed trees," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said.

Fatal house fire in Waushara County under investigation

The Waushara County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal house fire. The Sheriff's Office said its 911 dispatch center received multiple calls of a structure fire at around 8:23 a.m. Wednesday. The fire was located at N1571 27th Ln, in the Town of Warren. Multiple fire departments responded to the scene to assist the Redgranite Fire Department with extinguishing the fire.

Follow Up: Fort Atkinson fire destroys warehouse, injures firefighters, drains water tower

Alarge warehouse fire in Fort Atkinson Tuesday displaced about 50 residents and injured some of the 150 firefighters called to the scene. The fire was reported around noon in the 700 block of Oak Street on the city’s north side, police said. There was no one in the building at the time. Fire Chief Daryl Rausch said at a press conference Tuesday evening that some firefighters suffered injuries due to the heat and were treated at the scene or taken to a local hospital.

Fire damages Milwaukee home, Red Cross assisting 6 people

Firefighters on Tuesday night, Aug. 10 responded to the scene of a house fire near Hartford and Marietta. The call came in around 9:15 p.m. When crews arrived, they found the fire on the first and second floors. The fire was pgraded to a 2nd alarm within minutes. The fire was contained to the structure and did not spread.

Vehicle catches fire in Jackson County, driver noticed smoke before pulling over

A vehicle was nearly unrecognizable after it caught fire on I-94 in Jackson County. According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, on August 11 around 4:45 a.m. the driver of the truck pulled over after he noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. The right lane on I-94 was reportedly closed while crews worked to put out the fire.

Crews battle large fire at Fort Atkinson tire storage facility

VIDEO: Crews from multiple departments are battling a large fire at the Kennel Club of Fort Atkinson. The fire broke out shortly after noon Tuesday and reached five alarms. The Kennel Club of Fort Atkinson occupies several large buildings in a former industrial park on Oak Street. The fire consumed a transit warehouse that houses military tires and other chemicals.

Tomah Fire Department to celebrate 150th anniversary

The Tomah Fire Department turns 150 years old in 2021. To acknowledge the anniversary, the Tomah Fire Department is hosting a sesquicentennial celebration Saturday, Aug. 28. The day will kick off with a fire truck parade at 11 a.m. on Superior Avenue in Tomah. The parade will proceed south in the northbound lane.

Wisconsin Hospitals Prepare To Reopen COVID-19 Units As Hospitalizations Increase

Major health care systems in Wisconsin are moving to reopen COVID-19 units as the number of virus-related hospitalizations in the state continues to rise. Gundersen Health System announced Monday that it would reopen its COVID-19 unit in La Crosse after closing it in April. Bridget Pfaff, Gundersen’s clinical operations director for infection control, said the hospital is already seeing a spike in COVID-19 hospitalizations.

Weyauwega fire crews help carry severely injured motorcyclist to safety

A motorcyclist was found in a field with severe head injuries after getting into an accident on Saturday morning in the Town of Weyauwega. According to the Weyauwega Area Fire Department, at around 2:41 a.m., crews responded to Highway 10 near the intersection of county road U for reports of a motorcycle accident involving a deer.

Kenosha County water warnings, 2 rescued amid heavy rain

The morning after a powerful storm passed through southeast Wisconsin, members of the Kenosha County Dive Team urged people to avoid large bodies of water until things settle down. "People will think that, ‘Oh, I swim in one of the inland lakes on a regular basis. It’s just a little bit bigger. Lightning strike determined to be cause of Elkhart Lake fire

Officials say a fire broke out at an Elkhart Lake building Friday evening. According to the Elkhart Lake Fire Department, crews were called to the 100 block of East Rhine Street at 7:42 p.m. for smoke coming from an upper level apartment. After arriving, crews eventually found fire in the attic area, and were able to quickly put out the flames.

Firefighters battle house fire in Racine

The Racine Fire Department responded to a fire at 1600 Illinois Street Saturday, August 7, after receiving reports of heavy smoke from the location. Racine officials say that upon arrival at the location, firefighters saw smoke coming from a single-story residence and quickly put out the blaze. Authorities say the residence's occupant was not home at the time of the fire but is now displaced and will reside with relatives until further notice.

Crash in Sheboygan; 2 transported by Flight for Life, 1 in custody for OWI

Two people were transported to the hospital by Flight for Life Thursday night, Aug. 5 following a two-vehicle crash in Sheboygan. It happened around 8:20 p.m. near 18th Street and Calumet Drive. According to police, a 52-year-old Sheboygan man was turning onto Calumet Drive from 18th Street, heading northbound when his vehicle was struck by a southbound vehicle on Calumet Drive.

Holmen first responders meet and greet kids at ice cream social

The Holmen Area Fire Department and other area first responders got to show off their trucks and share ice cream with local kids. Eight cars destroyed in night fire at Kenosha salvage yard

Thick smoke and flames coming from the southeast portion of a local salvage yard led Kenosha firefighters to Jantz Automotive Sales Inc. lot at 3405 Washington Road where fire engulfed and damaged or destroyed eight vehicles Wednesday night. Children's Museum of Green Bay introduces kids to local police and firefighters

Kids in Green Bay got to meet some of the men and women who keep us all safe. The Children's Museum of Green Bay brought in members of the city of Green Bay's police and fire departments as part of their Superheroes Week project. “I don't really get to see police and fire trucks up close, and I also like police and fire trucks,” said Easton Banker.

Dog rescued from house fire on Madison’s north side

A dog is safe after a Wednesday morning house fire while no one was home, according to Madison fire officials. Neighbors of the home on Elka Lane called 911 just before 7:30 a.m., and crews were able to put the fire out in about 10 minutes. Nobody was in the house at the time, but firefighters were able to get a dog out of the house.

National Night Out brings back community with Beloit police and fire staff after year off

1 evaluated for smoke inhalation after fire damages 2 Algoma homes

Officials say a fire in Algoma early Tuesday afternoon caused one person to be treated for smoke inhalation. According to Algoma Fire and Rescue, crews were called to a fire at Kirkland and Arlington Avenue in Algoma at about 1 p.m. Before crews arrived, officials say dispatch told them the fire had already spread to a neighboring building, and mutual aid was then requested from Kewaunee, Casco, Luxemburg and Southern Door fire departments.
