Emergency crews respond to large house fire in McFarland

Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett says a home and two cars in the Town of Dunn are total losses after a fire. Dane County Sheriff's Office PIO Elise Schaffer said the two homeowners were inside when they smelled smoke coming from the attached garage. They evacuated without injury. Barrett credited first responders' quick actions with preventing more damage.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson announces nominations for Fire and Police Commission

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson announced his nominees for the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission. There are two vacant positions on the board, and Mayor Johnson is recommending Gerard Washington and Ruben A. Burgos for the seats. According to a news release from the mayor's office, Washington has more than 25 years of experience working for the Milwaukee Fire Department.

Child pulled from Lake Michigan near Kenosha's Pennoyer Park

Area fire department assists at Outagamie County fire

A fire in Outagamie County over the weekend may have had the largest response to a fire in Wisconsin history. Officials say a fire at a paper warehouse in the village of Combined Locks saw 700 responders from 67 fire departments. The Pittsville Fire Department was asked to send a strike team to haul water, so they drove nearly two hours to assist throughout the night.

Madison Fire Department: Broken fan allows CO levels to rise in Madison apartment building garage

A broken exhaust fan is blamed for carbon monoxide building up inside the underground garage of a Madison apartment building. According to the Madison Fire Department, someone pulled into the garage, in the 90 block of Kessel Court, on Monday night and called 911 after hearing an alarm and noticing an odor.

Fire chief: Combined Locks fire response may be largest in Wisconsin history

VIDEO: Firefighters from across the state say they’re still recovering from the Combined Locks fire that engulfed a paper warehouse over the weekend. La Crosse city committee okays budget increases on new fire station project

A couple of changes to the new city fire station being built near the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The La Crosse Board of Public Works approved Monday alterations to the project’s nearly $4 million budget. Milwaukee first responders' timely response gave a local man another chance at life

Time is of the essence when it comes to life or death situations, and fortunately for Dale Wilbourn, first responders' timely response gave him another chance at life. A simple hug and a thank you is something he doesn't take for granted anymore. "I'm glad I'm here to even witness this," he said. Fire in Peshtigo kills two dogs, under investigation

Officials are saying that a residential fire in Peshtigo is under investigation, but not considered suspicious. According to the Peshtigo Fire Department, on July 10 around 3 p.m. crews were sent to a residence on Woodridge Drive for a reported garage fire. When officials arrived, heavy smoke and fire was reportedly spreading to the residence and attic.

Occupants safe after Janesville residential fire

Two occupants, two dogs and a cat are safe after a residential fire started at a Janesville duplex on Sunday, the Janesville fire department said. Sun Prairie Fire Chief remembered 4 years after explosion

The Sun Prairie Fire and Rescue Company held a ceremony remembering the life of Captain Cory Barr on Sunday night, who died responding to a gas leak explosion in 2018. Man hurt in Glendale home explosion

A man is injured after a home explosion in Glendale. Firefighters used high-powered streams to knock down unstable parts of the house here in the 5600 block of North Sievers Place, which they say is a total loss. Neighbors say it started with a big boom. They say at first they thought it was a tree falling over -- then they saw flames.

Four without a home, one dog dead in Brown County fire

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department has given an update on the fire that took place on the 2800 Block of Conesta Drive in the Village of Bellevue. According to Lieutenant Shauna Walesh, a little after 11:15 a.m., the Green Bay Metro Fire Department received a call for a structure fire with smoke from the attic area.

Dry season brings higher fire risk over a majority of central Wisconsin

Although a majority of central Wisconsin has seen quite a bit of rainfall over the past week, much of the area is still seeing a high fire risk due to the dry climate. When land and vegetation become dry, fire and heat can spread much more quickly, causing fires to burn out of control. Jerry Minor, the Pittsville Fire Chief, says wildfires are the most common type of fire they respond to during the dry season.

Smoking blamed for Janesville fire that injured 1

A fire at a home in Janesville forced three people to evacuate. The City of Janesville Fire Department responded to a home on South River Road early Friday morning around 2 a.m. where they immediately spotted a couch that was on fire. Engine 812 reportedly saw heavy fire. Nineteen firefighters got the fire under control quickly, managing to keep it contained to the first floor.

Volunteers, Racine Fire Department rescue trapped dog from storm drain

Fire destroys barn in town of Oconto

Fire destroyed a barn in the town of Oconto on July 4. The fire in the 2700 block of Sherman Road, about 2 miles northeast of the city, was reported about 6:37 a.m. by an occupant of camper parked near the barn. The person had been awakened by the sound of ash hitting the top of his camper, said Oconto Fire-Rescue Lt.

Masons donate gear to fire departments in New Holstein, Kiel, Chilton and Brillion

Calumet Masonic Lodge 172 recently presented fire suppression tools to the fire departments in New Holstein, Kiel, Chilton and Brillion. Representatives of all but the Brillion department were able to attend a presentation and dinner put on by the Masons at their lodge on Washington Street in New Holstein.
