Fitchburg Fire Department responds to basement fire in apartment complex

The Fitchburg Fire Department put out a small fire in the basement of a Fitchburg apartment complex Wednesday night. The call about the fire came in at 9:52 p.m. and the fire was extinguished at 10:04 p.m., according to Dane County Dispatch. There were no injuries, according to Fitchburg Fire DeputyChief Rich Roth.

Fitch-Rona EMS Chief to retire at year’s end

Brian Myrland, who was hired as a part-time chief in 2004, announced last month he would retire effective Dec. 31. The new chief will likely be a familiar face, as the Fitch-Rona EMS Commission voted last Thursday night to pursue an internal candidate, one of the two deputy chiefs. Myrland, who also runs a Middleton-based sports equipment business, has had two full-time deputy chiefs reporting to him in recent years.

Fontana voters to decide ambulance measure

If the Nov. 14 referendum to raise $250,000 from the village levy to support 24-hour paramedic service from Paratech Ambulance Service fails, the village will move back to just 12-hour-a-day coverage. Eau Claire: Drones aid in river search for missing man

A drone and two search and rescue boats were deployed Tuesday along the Chippewa River in a search for a man missing since Saturday night, although police aren’t certain he entered the water. About 80 firefighters battle two-alarm fire on Milwaukee's northwest side

VIDEO: About 80 firefighters battled a two-alarm fire Tuesday night on Milwaukee's northwest side. Video from News Chopper 12 first showed a lot of smoke and then flames coming through the roof. Firefighters were called just before 6 p.m. to Appleton Avenue and 75th Street. They remained at the scene several hours to put out hot spots and make sure the fire didn't spread to the restaurants in the strip of businesses.

Fire destroys Charter Steel in Mequon; cause under investigation

VIDEO: Firefighters on Monday night, October 30th were called out to the scene of a fire at Charter Steel -- located near Port Washington and Glen Oak Road in Mequon. The call came in around 9:15 p.m. When crews arrived on scene, flames were shooting out of the roof. Authorities say the fire was so intense, crews had to fight it from the outside.

Nobody injured in Covance Lab fire, Madison Fire Department says

A fire in a laboratory hood system brought Madison firefighters and the hazardous materials team to a North Side company Sunday evening, with nobody injured in the blaze. The fire was reported at about 6:35 p.m. at Covance Laboratories, 3301 Kinsman Boulevard, the Madison Fire Department said. "It is believed a spark from within a work station ignited some flammable chemicals, causing a chain reaction that results in a fire large enough to trigger the lab's automatic fire sprinkler system," said MFD spokeswoman Cynthia Schuster.

Woman, children escape dangerous carbon monoxide levels in Rice Lake home

A woman and four children were very fortunate to escape carbon monoxide poisoning in the woman’s Rice Lake home over the weekend, according to Lt. Doug Ripplinger of the Rice Lake Fire Department. The Fire Department responded Sunday just after 9:30 a.m. to 1025 Linden Avenue for a carbon monoxide call after a Barron County sheriff’s dispatcher took a call from the homeowner, Cheryl Grove, reporting that one of the children, a 4-year-old boy, was feeling dizzy and vomiting.

Wisconsin Rapids man tries 911, then drives to fire station and pulls alarm

Retired South Shore division chief named fire inspector of the year

Mark Pierce, who retired from the South Shore Fire Department in April, received Fire Inspector of the Year honors Thursday night from the Wisconsin State Fire Inspectors Association at the organization’s annual conference, held last week at the Radisson Conference Center near Green Bay. Pierce had a 37-year career with the South Shore Fire Department and its predecessor, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department.

Fire Destroys Algoma Garage and SUV

VIDEO: Firefighters were called to a garage fire on the 300 block of North Water Street Friday afternoon. The garage was engulfed in flames and an SUV in the driveway was also on fire when crews arrived. Officials say the homeowner was home, and was alerted by a neighbor of the fire. No injuries were reported, but the house and a neighboring house sustained heat damage.

Silo fire in Town of Plover

A fire broke out in a silo on a farm in the Town of Plover in Marathon County. It happened around 8:00pm Saturday night. "The homeowners just saw a bunch of smoke," Birnamwood Fire Chief Randy Berger told WAOW NewsLine Nine. The Birnamwood, Easton, and Antigo Fire Departments all responded to the scene.

Fire damages two-story Winneconne house Sunday morning

A family of three must find someplace else to stay after a fire severely damaged a two-story house on the village's west side. Firefighters from multiple departments responded about 9:20 a.m. to the blaze at 4 S. Third St., Winneconne-Poygan Assistant Chief Al Andersen said. Two dogs were in the building, and one person was "slightly injured" while leaving.

Former Wausau EMT accused of sexually assaulting patient pleads not guilty

The former Wausau firefighter charged with sexually assaulting a patient he was transporting to the hospital pleaded not guilty Friday. Clifford Heiser, 32, was arrested by Wausau Police after an investigation into a complaint from a female patient on Sept. 13. The complaint was filed by a 29-year-old woman who was transported to an area hospital by a Wausau Fire Department ambulance.

Train plows into car in Richfield; driver found at home

A car burst into flames after being hit by a train in the village of Richfield, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said. The crash happened at 5:31 p.m. Wednesday on Bark Lake Road east of Scenic Road in the Village of Richfield. Deputies said a caller told them the car had been pushed 2,000 feet from the railroad crossing and was located behind a residential subdivision.

Two Verona men face arson charges for burned home

Two Verona men were charged Wednesday with arson after police said they admitted to setting fire to an abandoned farmhouse and setting off fireworks inside the home. Kyle D. Brazee and Evan R. Ruchti, both 18, were charged with arson for the July 4 fire that destroyed an abandoned house on Highway M, near Shady Bend Road and Liberty Drive.

Fire damages assisted-living facility in Tomah

Thirteen people were displaced after a fire damaged an assisted-living facility in Tomah. The Tomah Fire Department was dispatched shortly before 7 p.m. to Cranberry Country assisted living facility, where staff was evacuating the building upon arrival of firefighters. No injuries were reported. Tomah Fire Chief Tim Adler said there was heavy smoke throughout the building and that entry was made with a hand line to extinguish the blaze.
