Woman, children escape dangerous carbon monoxide levels in Rice Lake home

A woman and four children were very fortunate to escape carbon monoxide poisoning in the woman’s Rice Lake home over the weekend, according to Lt. Doug Ripplinger of the Rice Lake Fire Department. The Fire Department responded Sunday just after 9:30 a.m. to 1025 Linden Avenue for a carbon monoxide call after a Barron County sheriff’s dispatcher took a call from the homeowner, Cheryl Grove, reporting that one of the children, a 4-year-old boy, was feeling dizzy and vomiting.

Wisconsin Rapids man tries 911, then drives to fire station and pulls alarm

VIDEO: A man who thought his house was on fire drove to a fire station and pulled an alarm to get firefighters' attention. Wisconsin Rapids firefighters at Station 1, 1511 12th St. S, didn't know what was happening when the station's fire alarm went off at 2:54 a.m. Monday, Fire Capt. Bob Barteck said.

Retired South Shore division chief named fire inspector of the year

Mark Pierce, who retired from the South Shore Fire Department in April, received Fire Inspector of the Year honors Thursday night from the Wisconsin State Fire Inspectors Association at the organization’s annual conference, held last week at the Radisson Conference Center near Green Bay. Pierce had a 37-year career with the South Shore Fire Department and its predecessor, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department.

Heating up: Firefighting technology and services become a growing part of Chippewa Valley economy

Several Chippewa Valley businesses — some for decades and others just recently — have been fighting fires with their ingenuity. Fire Destroys Algoma Garage and SUV

VIDEO: Firefighters were called to a garage fire on the 300 block of North Water Street Friday afternoon. The garage was engulfed in flames and an SUV in the driveway was also on fire when crews arrived. Officials say the homeowner was home, and was alerted by a neighbor of the fire. No injuries were reported, but the house and a neighboring house sustained heat damage.

Silo fire in Town of Plover

A fire broke out in a silo on a farm in the Town of Plover in Marathon County. It happened around 8:00pm Saturday night. "The homeowners just saw a bunch of smoke," Birnamwood Fire Chief Randy Berger told WAOW NewsLine Nine. The Birnamwood, Easton, and Antigo Fire Departments all responded to the scene.

Fire damages two-story Winneconne house Sunday morning

A family of three must find someplace else to stay after a fire severely damaged a two-story house on the village's west side. Firefighters from multiple departments responded about 9:20 a.m. to the blaze at 4 S. Third St., Winneconne-Poygan Assistant Chief Al Andersen said. Two dogs were in the building, and one person was "slightly injured" while leaving.

Former Wausau EMT accused of sexually assaulting patient pleads not guilty

The former Wausau firefighter charged with sexually assaulting a patient he was transporting to the hospital pleaded not guilty Friday. Clifford Heiser, 32, was arrested by Wausau Police after an investigation into a complaint from a female patient on Sept. 13. The complaint was filed by a 29-year-old woman who was transported to an area hospital by a Wausau Fire Department ambulance.

Train plows into car in Richfield; driver found at home

A car burst into flames after being hit by a train in the village of Richfield, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said. The crash happened at 5:31 p.m. Wednesday on Bark Lake Road east of Scenic Road in the Village of Richfield. Deputies said a caller told them the car had been pushed 2,000 feet from the railroad crossing and was located behind a residential subdivision.

Two Verona men face arson charges for burned home

Two Verona men were charged Wednesday with arson after police said they admitted to setting fire to an abandoned farmhouse and setting off fireworks inside the home. Kyle D. Brazee and Evan R. Ruchti, both 18, were charged with arson for the July 4 fire that destroyed an abandoned house on Highway M, near Shady Bend Road and Liberty Drive.

New system makes Waupaca firefighters safer, more efficient

A new incident notification system helps Waupaca firefighters find their destination, know what special hazards a site may have, know which volunteers are responding and how soon they will arrive. “It’s peace of mind to know who’s actually coming,” said Steve Fenske, a member of the Waupaca Area Fire District who has been spearheading the implementation of the program.

Homicide investigation: Body found at scene of fire on Milwaukee’s northwest side

Milwaukee firefighters were called to the city’s northwest side Wednesday, October 25th for a garbage fire. As they were dousing that fire with water, they found a body in a vehicle. Fire damages assisted-living facility in Tomah

Thirteen people were displaced after a fire damaged an assisted-living facility in Tomah. The Tomah Fire Department was dispatched shortly before 7 p.m. to Cranberry Country assisted living facility, where staff was evacuating the building upon arrival of firefighters. No injuries were reported. Tomah Fire Chief Tim Adler said there was heavy smoke throughout the building and that entry was made with a hand line to extinguish the blaze.

Sturgeon Bay, Sevastopol elementary school students are 'Firefighters for the Day'

It involved homework, but the rewards were worth the effort when the 36 local elementary school students names were drawn to be honorary firefighters at the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department. The students were among 468 students who completed their assignments given to them by the Sturgeon Bay firefighters during the 2017 Grade School Fire Prevention Program conducted by the department during September and October.

Manitowoc firefighter, citizen of the year honored by Noon Rotary

Newer cars present different challenges during Northern Door Fire Department training

Northern Door firefighters received an opportunity to work through some of the new challenges presented when rescuing motorists from newer cars. The construction of cars has changed drastically over the last few years with new metals and technology being instituted in the process. Firefighters from Sister Bay/Liberty Grove, Gibraltar, Egg Harbor, and Baileys Harbor got a chance to practice on these cars, providing invaluable experience according to Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Chief Chris Hecht.

Three Lakes Elementary students trade school bus for firetruck to get to school

Five Three Lakes Elementary students stepped into a fire truck to get to school this morning. The Three Lakes Fire Department drove the lucky students to school in two fire engines. The kids won the chance to catch a ride to school in a fire truck through a coloring contest. This is the seventh year the Three Lakes Fire Department held the "Ride to School Program.

Beaver Dam’s 2018 city budget is in need of cuts

The Beaver Dam Administrative Committee met Monday night to begin deliberations on a proposed 2018 budget with a net tax levy of 6.4 percent increase ($10.5 million) amounting to more than $630,600 over the adopted 2017 budget. Beaver Dam Fire Chief Alan Mannel said these were some tough cuts. “Everyone is fighting for the same piece of the pie,” he said after the meeting.
