Saeger retires from Port Edwards Fire Department

Dennis Saeger retired from the Port Edwards Fire Department recently after a 36-year career. Saeger, the first assistant fire chief, was honored at a dinner and recognition ceremony on May 10. Port Edwards Fire Department retirees, village officials, mutual aid fire department officials and family attended.

Construction on new Kenosha fire station to start next year

Work on a new fire station for the Kenosha Fire Department could begin next year. Two fire stations are set to close and be merged into a “super” station on the site of the shuttered Bain Elementary School, 2210 52nd St. The two stations considered for closure: Station 3, 2121 Roosevelt Road, and Station 5, 2125 Washington Road.

Rock County Responders make lip dub video to '24K Magic'

VIDEO - The Rock County Communications Center has produced a community street dance video to the Bruno Mars hit, 24K Magic. The video is a follow-up to the Center’s viral hit “Uptown Funk” which was released two years ago and has received over 6.7 million YouTube views and thousands of positive comments from all over the world.

Sauk Prairie emergency services work to keep river safe

Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue Completes Dementia Friendly Training

Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue was recognized Tuesday morning for becoming one of the first departments, agencies or businesses to complete training through Dementia Friendly Fond du Lac County. Cathy Loomans is with the task force that created the training. She presented decals for each of the three fire stations to Assistant Chief Todd Janquart.

Bomb squad called out to house fire in Greenfield; one arrested for arson

One person has been taken into custody following a suspicious fire that led to the bomb squad being dispatched to a home in Greenfield Monday night, July 10th. The Greenfield Fire Department received a call of a fire at a home near 46th and Bottsford shortly before 7:00 p.m. The caller reported flames and black smoke coming from the home.

Pieces from semi truck tire may have started grass fire on Hwy. 53 near Eau Claire

VIDEO: Late Monday morning, a grass fire broke out northbound on Highway 53, causing the Township Fire Department to get involved. It turned out to be two fires, which backed up traffic in between LaSalle Street and Melby Street. Firefighters said they believe the fires started from bits of a semi-truck tire that exploded from the heat.

Greenfield house fire suspected to be arson

A Greenfield resident has been arrested and is expected to be charged with arson in connection with a house fire at S 46th Street and W Bottsford Avenue Monday evening. The fire was reported around 6:50 PM and when Greenfield firefighters arrived, flames were seen coming out of the front window and black smoke was boiling out of the home.

Bystanders drop everything, fight fire to save woman trapped in burning car on U.S. 45

VIDEO: When Jim Guellsaw cars backed up Friday afternoon along U.S. 45 near Waucousta, he knew something was wrong. But he didn't know, yet, that a two-car head-on collision had seriously injured three people, or that it would summon three helicopters and emergency personnel from miles around. He didn't know it would be the worst crash he'd seen in more than 30 years working for the Fond du Lac County Highway Department.

Wausau Fire Department undergoes intense fire training

If you were in Wausau Monday, you may have seen smoke coming from a burning house multiple times throughout the day. But don't be alarmed, those fires were set on purpose as part of the Wausau Fire Department's training. "This is the hottest I've ever been," said aspiring firefighter Brianna Glodowski.

Madison street sweeper tips over, driver injured

The driver of a street sweeper was injured early Monday morning when the large vehicle tipped on its side, according to a release from the Madison Fire Department. Firefighters were called at 3:51 a.m. to South Stoughton Road and Buckeye Road after multiple reports of a large vehicle tipped over with the driver trapped inside.

Elderly couple killed in Suamico house fire

VIDEO: An elderly couple is dead after their house went up in flames in Suamico. Just after 11 P.M. Sunday night, Suamico first responders were called to a home on Woodsdale Street when neighbors saw smoke coming from the house. While putting out the fire, firefighters found two people dead, one outside the home, and one just inside the doorway.

No one injured when candle fire destroys upper unit of Kenosha home

A lit candle that tipped over and ignited items in a room, including a mattress, caused a fire that destroyed the upper floor of a home at 7417 36th Ave. early Sunday. A resident who lives next door to the home called the Kenosha Fire Department just after midnight on Sunday reporting smoke coming from the upper unit of the building.

Mill Explosion in Buffalo County

VIDEO: Fire crews in Alma are still working to determine what caused an explosion at a mill that led to a large fire. It happened at Dairyland Power Cooperative in Alma late Saturday night. The Alma fire chief says six departments were sent to the John P. Madgett Station in Alma. The fire ranged from the fourth to the sixth floor of the building.

Holmen Fire Department looking for more members

A local fire department is looking to expand and recruit more members. The Holmen Fire Department is launching a new multi-year recruitment plan. The goal of the five -phase plan is to get staffing levels up to 11 full time and 22 part time firefighters. Currently the department only has four full time firefighters.

Holmen Area Fire Department to replace mini-pumper

The Holmen Area Fire Department is continuing to assess its response vehicles and is taking steps to upgrade its fleet. The assessment showed a 1995 mini-pumper should be replaced because of its age and limitations. At the Holmen Area Fire District Association Board’s June 22 meeting, the department asked to approve the sale of the mini-pumper and use the proceeds toward the purchase of a new rescue squad.

Coal train derails suburban Milwaukee

Authorities in suburban Milwaukee say several coal train cars have derailed but there is no threat to public safety. West Allis Police Chief Patrick Mitchell said at a news conference that the derailment occurred early Thursday evening. He says two workers were on the train at the time and neither was injured.

Kewaunee Fire Museum Looking To Be Completed By Early August

Kewaunee’s new fire museum is nearly complete. The building, which will house the city’s four historic fire apparatuses, should be completed sometime in early August. Kewaunee Fire Department Captain James Kleiman says community had a sneak peek of how it will look last weekend. The new fire museum will include an 1884 fire truck, a 1927 American La France engine that is still operational, an 1870 chemical fire truck pumper, and a 1908 hose cart.

Oshkosh firehouse features American flag made of old fire hose

PHOTO: An firehouse in Oshkosh has been gifted a unique piece of art: an American flag fashioned from an old fire hose. Firefighters said they couldn't be more proud to have it hanging in the firehouse. It'll be put on permanent display at Station #14, at 2050 Knapp Street. One of the artists who made the flag said the hose is 38 years old and was the most interesting material he'd ever worked with.

Pound Fire Chief Resigns, Edgecombe to Take Over

Village of Pound Fire Chief Turner Gross will be resigning, effective July 12, he announced to the Village Board at their board meeting Monday, July 3. Gross said he would like to focus on his personal goals, and said "I believe it's a good move to let another great member lead this department into their next step as the prior goals we have set had been met and I would like to see a fresh mind set new goals and achieve them, especially with the hard-working group that is currently serving the department.
