Milwaukee boy who died trying to save cousin from house fire posthumously honored for heroism

Early morning fire destroys garage in Washington County, no one hurt

Firefighters early Thursday morning, September 21st responded to the scene of a garage fire in Washington County. Crews responded to the area of Cty Tk H in the Town of Kewaskum shortly before 2:00 a.m. Officials say the fire was reported by a passing motorist, who also notified the two adults that were home at the time.

Lighting Likely Cause Of Fire In Manitowish Waters

A structure in Manitowish Waters is a total loss after a fire Wednesday morning. The Vilas County Sheriff's Department reports a homeowner at 4755 Lavigne Road called about 8:30 a.m. to report smelling smoke after lightning had struck close by. Firefighters believe the fire started in the basement after the lightning strike.

Holmen fire board again facing uncertainty

About the time the dust appears to have settled around the Holmen Area Fire Department and the Holmen Area Fire District Association Board, an action by a majority of the Holmen Village Board could again create uncertainty within fire department. In a split vote at the village board’s Sept 14 meeting, four village board trustees voted to approve removing trustees Chuck Olson and Bill Ebner as the village’s representatives on the fire association board.

Authorities investigate house fire in Town of Bloomfield

Waushara County officials say a home went up in flames before 9 o'clock Tuesday night. The Fire Department says it received a call regarding the house fire on North County Road A at 8:49 p.m. The West Bloomfield Fire Department along with the Poy Sippi Fire Department arrived to find the home fully engulfed.

Body has been recovered from a house fire in Waushara County

VIDEO: A body was found Wednesday morning inside a home that caught fire the night before in the town of Bloomfield, according to Waushara County Sheriff Jeffery Nett. The call came out at about 8:49 p.m. Tuesday to the home on North County Road A in Waushara County. Fire units arrived on the scene to find the house totally engulfed in flames.

Menomonie fire captain honored at technology luncheon

Update: Pirus told police why he killed his wife and how he blew up his home

VIDEO: A man who police said killed his wife and blew up his home made his first court appearance on Tuesday afternoon in Dane County. The Dane County District Attorney's Office found probable cause to move forward with charging Steven Pirus, 59, of 1st degree homicide, arson, and reckless endangerment because of a Probable Cause Affidavit from investigators.

Watertown: 6th Street fire injures occupant, kills two cats

A Watertown man was transported to the hospital after escaping a fire in his 410 S. Sixth St. apartment early Sunday morning. Watertown firefighters responded to the scene around 3 a.m. to rescue the man and extinguish the fire, but he was able to get out of the building by the time they arrived. "The guy that was trapped had broken a window to escape and our EMS that was there took him to the hospital for injuries and smoke inhalation," Watertown Interim Fire Chief Kraig Biefeld said.

Council Approves $54,000 Study Of Sheboygan Fire Department

Sheboygan's Common Council spent much of their meeting Monday night talking about whether or not to approve a $54,000 study of the city's Fire Department. The study is being done to determine how to better staff the department, as there is a push to add some new firefighters and additional management in the coming years.

Propane Fire Training Lights The Sky in Waupun

If you live near Waupun, you may have seen flames shooting into the sky Monday night. No need to worry, it was training done by the Waupun Fire Department. Seventeen fire departments and about 100 firefighters participated in the live propane fire training. The training consisted of five propane fire scenarios with a variety of propane tanks.

Husband shot and killed wife, blew up Madison house as cover-up, police chief says

A Madison man shot and killed his wife weeks ago and blew up their Southwest Side house on Wednesday as an attempt to cover up the homicide, Madison Police Chief Mike Koval said Sunday. Lee Anne Pirus, 50, was identified by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office as the body found amid the rubble of a house at 7806 Stratton Way.

Firefighters extinguish intentionally set fire in vacant Racine home

Firefighters extinguished what they determined to be an intentionally set fire early Sunday morning. Update: Body found at site of Madison home explosion

VIDEO: Madison Fire Chief Steven Davis says a body was found at the site of a home that exploded Wednesday afternoon in the southwest part of the city. Davis says the body was found around 9:00 a.m. Friday morning and his teams have suspended their investigative work while the medical examiner is at the site.

Kaukauna garage destroyed, home damaged in Thursday fire

Fire destroyed a detached garage and spread to a house on Roger Court on Thursday afternoon. There were no injuries and everyone, including a dog, evacuated before firefighters arrived, said Assistant Fire Chief Chad Gerrits. Officials estimate that the fire did about $65,000 in damage to the buildings and about $30,000 in damage to their contents.

Fond du Lac man rescued from Lake Winnebago

A Fond du Lac man was rescued Wednesday night from Lake Winnebago after falling in the water at the Lakeside Park Marina. A crew from Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue, along with city police, were called to G Dock about 8 p.m. for a report of a man who had fallen in the water in an area of the lake called the "Big Hole" in Lakeside Park.

Dells' Smokey the Bear Park gets firewise at new garden

Thanks in large part to the efforts of Wisconsin Dells residents and Adams County master gardeners Dan and Laura Reger, Smokey the Bear has a new “firewise” garden to call his own at the oft-visited park in front of the local Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources office on River Road. The new garden was dedicated as a new “Firewise Education Site” during a brief ceremony there the afternoon of Sept.
