1 dog killed, 2 others survive New London house fire

PHOTO: One dog died in a house fire while paramedics and first responders revived two others during a late-morning fire on Quincy Street Monday, Oct. 24. A passerby reported the fire at 639 E. Quincy St. near Ridgeway Drive before 10 a.m. The house is also home to Kuether Services, a lawn care and snow removal business run by Kelly and Kim Kuether.

Merrill Fire Department looks to improve supply of EMTs through mentorship opportunities

No one injured in Town of Sheboygan house fire

Firefighters battled a house fire in the Town of Sheboygan on Monday afternoon. Firefighters responding to the structure fire at approximately 11 a.m. on Monday saw smoke billowing from the home. All residents of the home, which is located on County Road Y, were accounted for and were not in the home at the time of the fire, according to the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office.

Sun Prairie Fire Department’s Mark Mlekush earns Wisconsin Fire Inspector of the Year Award

The Sun Prairie Fire Department announced that SPFD Fire Inspector Mark Mlekush has been selected as this year’s Fire Inspector of the Year by the Wisconsin State Fire Inspector Association. Mlekush has been the lead inspector for the department for over seven years and has completed 17,741 inspections.

Families displaced by Kenosha fire

Fire broke out in an upper unit of a two-level residence in the Uptown area of the city late Sunday. Firefighters were called to the scene at 9:45 p.m. for the fire at 2106 61st St., where smoke and flames could be seen emanating from the top of the building. Residents looked on as firefighters took an ax to the roof, which was still smoking half an hour later, to vent the smoke and flames.

Six families displaced after Menomonee Falls apartment fire

VIDEO: Six families were displaced Sunday after a morning fire at a 36-unit apartment complex in Menomonee Falls. Crews from nine fire department responded to the Cameron Heights Apartments, near Appleton Avenue and White Oak Circle, south of County Line Road, shortly after 10 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Beaver Dam Fire Department learning and teaching with person of varying abilities

Beaver Dam Fire Department members have been seeing a new person shining up things around the garage. He’s Matthew Crook, 21. He and job coach Mary Fitzgerald have been handling upkeep in the fire department building for about month and will continue into December. Fitzgerald is from Bright Futures of Wisconsin where she works in employment and transition services.

Northwoods fire departments join together for training

VIDEO: Nearby Fire Departments often rely on each other when they need extra man power. On Saturday firefighters from around the Northwoods came together as one. "It's vital to have that community bond between the fire departments," said Arbor Vitae Fire and Rescue Chief Mike VanMeter. The bond between local departments led to a rare training opportunity.

Minocqua Voters Approve New Fire Station

Minocqua voters approved building a new fire station Thursday to replace an aging station that has served the Minocqua volunteer firefighters for over four decades. A heavy contingent of Minocqua Fire & Rescue Department members and their supporters carried the day with 63 electors voting approval and none voting against.

Mom, 2 children being treated after early morning fire in Beloit

VIDEO: A mother and her two children are being treated for breathing in too much smoke after their home caught fire around midnight Friday. The Beloit Fire Department says police officers reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the back of the building at 622 East Grand Avenue when they got there. The people inside were out because they had been alerted by smoke detectors.

Firefighters threaten to leave Wilson department

Several firefighters have threatened to leave after the town board moved forward with establishing a municipal fire department without the current fire chief. The Town of Wilson Board on Monday passed an ordinance and set of bylaws establishing the municipal fire department, but did not approve an amendment that would allow current Fire Chief Brian Schmitt to retain his job when the department switches from a corporation to a municipal entity.

3 hurt in downtown Clintonville fire, 2 airlifted

VIDEO: The State Fire Marshal is expected to arrive in downtown Clintonville this morning to help investigate a fire that injured three people late Wednesday. Fire gutted two apartments above Doesn’t Compute, a computer store, and Main Street Tattoos, at 49 S. Main Street. The fire department says a man and a woman who were in the apartments were airlifted to a Milwaukee hospital.

Chippewa Falls fire station construction on schedule, under budget

Coon Creek Fire & Rescue needs help to meet $20,000 challenge

Coon Creek Fire & Rescue is hoping the generosity of people in the Coulee Region continues to shine as they reach out to the public to fulfill a financial challenge, which will allow the organization to purchase a new first responder vehicle. Chief Russ Cornford said over the past three years of fundraising the organization has already raise $40,000 toward the vehicle purchase price of $80,000.

Madison Fire Department: Paramedic bitten by dog as she helps revive heroin user

Family of five escapes house fire in Appleton

A family of five escaped a house fire in Appleton early Wednesday morning. The Appleton Fire Department says without working smoke alarms, it could have been “truly tragic.” Firefighters were called to the 200 block of N. Lawe Street at about 5:26 a.m. Crews arrived on scene to find smoke and flames in the basement.

La Crosse County gets rolling on radio upgrade

La Crosse County emergency communications are getting a boost this year and by 2022 will have coverage as good as it can get, given the county’s terrain. By the end of the year, the county will add the first of seven new transmitter sites to improve the county’s radio system, which is used by the sheriff’s department as well as the emergency dispatch center and the highway department.

Kenosha names fire chief finalists

The city has released the names of the three men being considered for Kenosha’s next fire chief. The three finalists are Battalion Chief Matthew Haerter, Battalion Chief Kenneth Schroeder and Capt. Charles Leipzig Jr. A decision could come later this month. The Police and Fire Commission opted to look at internal candidates rather than perform a nationwide search.

Merrill Fire Department gets DNR grant for wildland firefighting

VIDEO: The Merrill Fire Department does more than just battle structure fires within city limits. It covers 141 square miles in southern Lincoln County. In the spring, the department helps control forest or wildland fires about every day or every other day. But it needs better tools to help do that job.
