Kilbourn Fire Department in Dells names Gavinski new chief

The saying “it runs in the family” applies to new fire chief Pat Gavinski when it comes to his family’s involvement with the Kilbourn Fire Department. Pat Gavinski said his father, Tim Gavinski was an assistant chief, grandfather, Bob Gavinski, was a former chief and his brother, Dillon Gavinski, was also involved with the department.

Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Department crosses generations with awards

Firefighters across the generations were honored this weekend in Sister Bay as the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Department held its Christmas and Wives/Husbands Appreciation Party. Two of the honorees represent the third generation of their families to serve for the department with Mitch Olson Jr. earning the Chief’s Choice Award and Captain Kurt Knudson, who is retiring after 39 years.

Bar a total loss after early morning fire in Calumet County

No one was inside the bar or apartments. No one was injured. Officials say the building is a total loss and isn't structurally sound. The fire broke out around 4 a.m. Monday. A couple nearby homes were damaged by the fire. Officials aren't sure what caused the fire. Several roads in the area are closed.

$440K in Racine apartment fire damage; all occupants escaped

A raging Saturday night blaze in a three-story apartment building caused an estimated $440,000 in damage, but all residents escaped the three-story building safely, the Racine Fire Department reported Sunday. Fire crews were called to the fire at 1045 Grand Ave. shortly after 8:30 p.m. The department later reported that working smoke alarms alerted the residents who were home at the time and allowed them to get out.

Pittsfield man killed in house fire on County B

VIDEO: A Pittsfield man died Friday in a house fire on County B east of Pulaski. According to the Brown County Sheriff's Office, the home at 6081 County B was engulfed in flames when authorities arrived at 8 a.m. Pulaski Tri-County Fire Department Fire Chief James Styczynski said the victim was an "older gentleman," who lived alone.

Firefighter injured, 5 displaced after Janesville apartment fire

Five people are displaced after an apartment fire Sunday morning in Janesville. The Janesville Fire Department were called to a two-story, four-unit apartment building in the 100 block of South High St. at 11:43 a.m. for reports of smoke and fire in the building, according to a release. When they arrived, all residents were safely out of the building, officials said.

Pardeeville Fire Department rescues dog that fell through thin ice

VIDEO: The Pardeeville Fire Department rescued a dog that fell through thin ice Saturday afternoon and the rescue was all caught on camera. Captain Mitch Wendt tells NBC15 that the dog fell into a pond near Highway CM. He believes the dog was chasing something when it fell in and she couldn’t get out.

Racine ceiling fan fire causes $13K in damages

A structure fire that started in a ceiling fan on Wednesday night caused $13,000 in damage to a home at 2416 Taylor Ave., according to a press release from the Racine Fire Department. No one was injured in the fire. Firefighters were dispatched to the house at approximately 9:20 p.m., after the occupants reported a fire in their upstairs bathroom ceiling fan.

Marshall man charged in death of missing Sun Prairie man

A 59-year-old Marshall man has been arrested on tentative charges of first-degree intentional homicide in connection with the disappearance of a 21-year-old Sun Prairie man. At a press conference Thursday morning, Jan. 18 at the Marshall Fire Department, Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney said the search for Jesse Faber has become a homicide investigation.

Former Waukesha Fire Chief Jesse Alba files defamation lawsuit against woman he had affair with

Two cows killed in Ellington barn fire

VIDEO: Two cows died in a barn fire in the 6600 block of Outagamie County JJ on Tuesday morning. There were about 60 cows inside the barn when the fire started, Ellington Fire Department Chief Jim Bentle told USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin. The fire was reported about 9:35 a.m., according to police call records.

La Crosse Fire Department takes icy plunge for dive training

Every year, the La Crosse Fire Department holds ice dive rescue training. After finishing the classroom portion of training, the divers are ready to put what they learned into action. Delafield waits for new fire engine after totaling engine in October

The fire department has ordered a new fire truck at a cost of about $500,000 after totaling a truck while responding to assist with a Pewaukee fire in October. The city of Pewaukee will share a reserve vehicle with Delafield until the new truck arrives sometime in July Delafield Fire Chief Paul Kozlowski said the town had to pay a $1,000 deductible and insurance covered the rest of the accident, which occurred at N13 W28400 Silvernail Road.

New London: Snowmobile falls through ice

A New London teenager is safe following a frigid after school experience. Avery Eplett, 17, of New London, had intended to take his first ever snowmobile ride on the Wolf River Monday, Jan. 15, when his snowmobile suddenly dropped through the ice at the Riverside Park Boat Launch in New London. The launch typically has open water in it year round, due to its close distance downstream from the wastewater treatment plant’s outflow pipe.

State investigators: Cause of Woodruff fire 'undetermined'

VIDEO: It took 12 fire departments, 200,000 gallons of water, and seven hours to put out a destructive fire in Woodruff on Monday night. On Tuesday afternoon, the State Fire Marshal and Woodruff Fire Department ruled the cause and origin of the fire "undetermined." No one was hurt in the fire, but it burned millions of dollars worth of boats, RVs, cars, and snowmobiles in winter storage there.

Holland mulls fire agreement with La Crosse

A proposal by the Holmen Area Fire District fire chief to form a partnership with the La Crosse Fire Department was met with mixed opinions by town of Holland board members last week. The idea was first brought to the Holmen Area Fire Department Association Board in December by fire chief Paul Menches, at which point the board approved having Menches pursue efforts to create a fleet maintenance agreement with the LAFD, as they have a full-time maintenance program.

Racine house fire on Rapids Drive sends one to hospital

One person was transported to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation following a house fire Tuesday night. The Racine Fire Department was dispatched at 9:24 p.m. to the 1600 block of Rapids Drive for a report of a structure fire that started on a couch. All occupants of the home were reported to be out of the residence when firefighters arrived.
