1 injured in duplex fire, Janesville officials say

One person was injured in a fire that broke out overnight Saturday in a Janesville duplex, officials said. Janesville firefighters responded just after midnight to 1544 Beloit Avenue for reports of a residential fire, according to a release. Crews found a duplex with fire and smoke showing from the back of one of the units.

Fire at Johns Disposal in Town of Norway is out, debris still smoldering

VIDEO: Firefighters on Monday morning, July 2 continued to battle a massive fire at a recycling facility in western Racine County. As of 7:30 a.m. the fire appeared to be out. The fire broke out Sunday, July 1 John's Disposal. Between 40 and 50 crews from southeast Wisconsin and northern Illinois were on scene to battle the blaze Monday morning.

5 displaced by fire believed to have started in Milwaukee

PHOTO: Five people were displaced by a fire at a home near Layton and Mitchell Sunday, July 1. It happened around noon. Everyone was able to get out of the home before firefighters arrived. No one was hurt. It’s believed the fire started in the attic. The cause is under investigation. The Red Cross was called in to assist those displaced.

Fire damages multi-unit home on Green Bay's east side

VIDEO: No one was was injured after a fire badly damaged a multi-unit home on Green Bay's east side Sunday afternoon. Firefighters responded to the 1200 block of East Walnut Street around 12:40 p.m. for a report of a house on fire with smoke and flames showing, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department said.

Power line falls on Madison home, starts fire

VIDEO: A thunderstorm that came through Madison Sunday afternoon caused some issues on the south side. A tree branch broke off and landed on a power line as it fell onto a home on Birch Hill Drive, off Raymond Road. Madison fire officials say the basement of the home filled with smoke from a small fire.

Fire displaces Racine woman and six children

A structure fire on Thursday afternoon displaced the occupant of a home in the 1700 block of Mead Street, along with her six children. The electrical fire was contained to the first floor bedroom where it began at 3:22 p.m., but still caused an estimated $20,000 worth of damage to the structure and $5,000 to its contents, according to a press release from the Racine Fire Department.

Gone, but not forgotten: Madison firefighters honor one of their own with special ride

It's been three months since 29-year-old Richard Garner collapsed suddenly and died. The Madison firefighter had finished his shift just hours before. The death was shocking, saddening, and left Station 10 with a void that is still felt today. Area firefighters and paramedics will honor Garner on Friday with the inaugural Richard Garner Memorial Ride, a charity ride through southern Wisconsin.

Madison: Investigation continues into attack that left suspect and victim with chemical burns

Trial ordered for woman charged in 2011 Portage County arson case

More than 7 years after an Amherst garage was damaged by fire, one of its owners will head to trial for arson. Barbara Maslowski-Day is free on $10,000 signature bond. La Crosse Area Officials Consider Consolidating Regional Emergency Services

Officials in La Crosse have started a new push to consolidate fire departments in the region, but not everyone is convinced, with some in surrounding communities worrying about a loss of independence. Agencies in La Crosse County have had on-and-off discussions about the idea over the last 20 years. New location picked for Racine fire station

A Racine fire station is expected to be relocated from 16th Street to a park near Durand Avenue. Fire Station No. 6, 2101 16th St., was built in 1975, according to Fire Chief Steve Hansen. It was constructed according to residential standards and was not meant to be used for more than 10 years as the fire station, he said by email.

Railroad's road closure request for Chippewa County denied

Progressive Rail has lost its request to have a road closed in the Chippewa County town of Eagle Point, just northeast of Chippewa Falls. Progressive Rail filed a request with the state’s Office of the Commissioner of Railroads last September seeking a permanent closure of a 1-mile stretch of 95th Avenue, from Highway 124 to Highway 178, just west of Lake Wissota, allowing Progressive to expand its operations with a larger switching yard.

Oshkosh paramedics will get bulletproof vests, thanks to credit union grant

City paramedics soon will bulletproof gear to use during active shooter situations. The Oshkosh Fire Department will use a $15,050 grant from Capital Credit Union’s Elevate Communities program to buy 10 sets of bulletproof vests, helmets and accessories, said John Holland, a Fire Department spokesman.

National Weather Service works to confirm touched-down tornado in Platteville

The National Weather Service is working to confirm a tornado in southwest Wisconsin after multiple funnel sightings in Platteville. The funnel was spotted around 11:20 a.m., according to the Platteville Fire Department. Chief Ryan Simmons said no siren was issued by the city because the funnel was spotted outside of the city limits.

Roman Electric employees honored for pulling man, baby from burning Milwaukee home

VIDEO: Three Roman Electric employees were honored Tuesday, June 26 for their quick actions which allowed them to save the lives of a man and baby trapped in a burning home in Milwaukee in March. The fire happened on March 12 near 70th and Dickinson. Roman electric employees Chris Rassette, Jack Schoeppe and Brian Pape were honored by the Milwaukee Fire Department and Alderman Michael Murphy for their heroic actions — rescuing Angel Suarez and his 1-month-old daughter from the home before firefighters could arrive on scene.

8 injured in crash near Black River Falls

PHOTO: Eight people are injured in an early morning crash near Black River Falls. It happened around 1:12 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-94. According to information from the Wisconsin State Patrol, a semi driven by Jason Gilberts of Willmar, Minnesota was traveling on the interstate on the inside lane.
