Sun Prairies police, fire, EMS conduct joint active shooter training

Those who heard gunshots coming from St. Albert the Great Church on Thursday, April 5 can rest assured they were not live rounds. But the active shooter scenarios being practiced by Sun Prairie police, fire and emergency medical service departments are, unfortunately, all too real. Using a training radio channel, police were notified of shots fired inside the church.

Janesville fire causes $50,000 in damages

A structure fire stemming from a pickup truck caused $50,000 in damages Wednesday afternoon. The source of the fire was found to be a pickup truck inside the shed at Malterer's Landscape and Lawn Care. The fire was filling the eaves and ridge vent of the building with black smoke just before 2:30 p.m.

Committee working on fire safety codes for Holmen and towns of Onalaska, Holland

A special committee has been meeting for several months to both align and modernize the fire safety building codes for the towns of Holland and Onalaska and village of Holmen. The Holmen Area Fire District Association’s Building/Fire Code Working Group appears to be close to finishing the project and making recommendations on the codes.

Crews respond to house fire in Mosinee

Crews are investigating a house fire in Mosinee. The fire happened at a home along 10th Street and Davis Street Wednesday. Firefighters arrived at scene around 5 p.m. Crews have contained the flames, but are continuing to check for hots spots. Mosinee Interim Fire Chief Stephen Haas said most of the damage was done to the garage area.

Sauk Prairie first responders, BBQ joint, will hold mutual fundraiser

Sauk Prairie’s first responders often work together in times of crisis. But on June 9, Sauk Prairie Police, Sauk Prairie Ambulance, Prairie du Sac Fire and Sauk City Fire will join forces in a first of its kind chicken wings competition. The brainchild of Cody Wood, owner of Wood BBQ in Sauk City, the Community Wings event will serve as a fundraiser for all four community responder groups.

One person hurt in Eau Claire fire

One person is hurt and a home is heavily damaged after a fire in Eau Claire. The Eau Claire Fire Department says crews were called to the home on the 3300 block of Oakland Street just after 11 p.m. Tuesday night. When they arrived they saw flames coming from the attic and back of the house, but fortunately everyone inside had escaped safely.

Superior Fire Department provides timeline of Cooper Fire

The Superior Fire Department has released a rough timeline of the fires that caused an estimated $1.5 million to the new Cooper Elementary School, under construction beside the current school building at 1807 Missouri Ave. Arson is not suspected, although the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Update: Beaver Dam apartment fire death toll rises; victims identified

VIDEO: The death toll has risen to two after the Saturday fire at the Executive Apartments in Beaver Dam. Jade Wilson, 24, succumbed to her injuries from the fire at Columbia-St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee. Corrine Bolin, 63, died in the fire and was positively identified by the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s officer, according to a press release from Beaver Dam Fire/Rescue.

Oconomowoc family reunites with police and paramedics who delivered baby

Ex-Tichigan fire chief accused of embezzling 20K gets probation in plea deal

The former Tichigan fire chief accused of embezzling more than $20,000 from the fire company between 2010 and 2014 was sentenced recently, and the Tichigan Volunteer Fire Company is taking steps to ensure this type of incident does not happen again. “The Fire Service represents loyalty, honesty and integrity,” the Tichigan Volunteer Fire Co.

1 dead in Shawano County fire

One person was killed when an early-morning fire engulfed a trailer home in the Town of Fairbanks, the Shawano County Sheriff's Department said Monday. The fire broke out about 4:45 a.m. Sunday at W15398 on County Highway M, Detective Sgt. Gordon Kowaleski said in a statement. The Tigerton Fire Department responded to the scene, where firefighters found the body of the person who apparently lived in the home, Kowaleski said.

Huffman retiring as chief in Turtle

Fire Chief Tim Huffman may be retiring after 38 years, but he plans to partake in as many fire department events as possible, including the pancake breakfast. After all, he will be among friends. "They (the firefighters) are basically like family to me. We are all very close," he said. "I've been in Turtle township my whole life.

UW student burned while cooking in dormitory building, Madison Fire says

A UW-Madison student suffered burns Sunday afternoon when her shirt caught fire while she was boiling water in a dormitory kitchen. The incident happened around 5:25 p.m. in the Tripp Residence Hall, 1510 Tripp Circle, part of the lakeshore group of dormitories on campus. The Madison Fire Department said the student had been boiling water on an electric stove in a small kitchen in the basement of the dormitory.

Milwaukee police officer suffers burned hand responding to arson fires

A police officer suffered a burned hand while investigating arson fires at a Milwaukee apartment complex. Authorities say police were investigating a small fire early Sunday connected to a domestic violence dispute when another, larger fire was started in the building. The building was evacuated, and many of the apartments are temporarily uninhabitable.

Oconto Mother and Two Children Safe Following House Fire

A mother and her two children are safe following a house fire in Oconto Sunday morning. At 12:02 a.m., the Oconto Fire and Rescue department was sent to 109 Huron Avenue in Oconto for a report of a house fire. When they arrived, they found heavy flames coming from the front porch and windows that had been blown out.

100 acres lost in Beaver Dam grass marsh fire

VIDEO: A grass marsh fire got out of control Sunday morning at N6301 Wren Road. The Beaver Dam Fire department was notified by Dodge County Central Communications that resident Randy Hupf was burning items in his backyard when it got out of control. This is the departments second large fire this weekend and was assisted by Lowell, Reeseville, Juneau, Fall River, Columbus and Fox Lake fire departments.

1 killed in fire at apartment building in Beaver Dam; 1 remains in critical condition

VIDEO: Multiple people were pulled from the burning 17-unit apartment complex on Saturday. It happened around 6 a.m. near 3rd and La Crosse St. "I didn't know what was going on," said Westlake. "It was a few minutes later and I started seeing smoke coming out of the building." Westlake pulled out her phone just moments after first responders arrived to the apartment building up the street.

Milwaukee firefighters battle small blaze at home near Edgeworth and Calumet

VIDEO: Firefighters on Sunday, April 8 were called out to a home near Edgeworth Dr. and Calumet Rd. for a small fire. It happened around 9:30 a.m. We're told the fire mainly impacted the exterior of the home. The cause is under investigation. No one was hurt. A homeowner at the scene told FOX6 News the home serves as a group home.

Tri-County fire training facility gets go-ahead in Burlington area

Over the past year, four Burlington-area fire departments have been working hard to raise funds and get the necessary approval for a new training facility. Now that all the T’s are crossed and I’s dotted, the departments are planning on breaking ground sometime in May or June. Fire departments from the City of Burlington, Town of Burlington, Rochester and Wheatland met in February 2017 to discuss pooling resources together to build a training facility.
