Racine County: Semi-trailer fire on I-94 destroys six vehicles

PHOTO: A fire that engulfed six vehicles on an auto carrier completely shut down Interstate 94 Tuesday afternoon while authorities worked to put the fire out and clean up the wreckage. At 2:17 p.m., the Racine County Sheriff’s Office responded to I-94 near Kraut Road after multiple callers reported the fire, according to a press release.

Milwaukee woman who pleaded guilty in fatal arson caught on camera, sentenced to 22 years in prison

VIDEO: A Milwaukee woman who pleaded guilty to starting a fatal fire last June has been sentenced to prison. A Milwaukee County judge sentenced Java Wright to 22 years with 15 years of extended supervision on Tuesday, June 19. According to a criminal complaint, Wright started a fire in a building near 12th and Wright on June 16, 2017.

Stuck in tree, UW student shows that what goes up doesn’t always come down

Climbing the tree was the easy part. When it came to getting back down, one University of Wisconsin student was stumped. That was the scene late Thursday afternoon, as Madison firefighters rescued a 20 year-old woman from a tree near the downtown area. According to the Madison Fire Department, the woman climbed a tree on the 400 block of Henry Mall before realizing she did not know how to get back down.

One person is dead after a house fire near North Prairie

PHOTO: A house fire near the village claimed the life of one person on Monday, June 18. Multiple area fire departments were dispatched to the fatal fire, which was reported at about 5:30 p.m. The blaze was under control by 8 p.m. and firefighters were clearing the scene by about 9 p.m., according to a photographer at the scene.

Milwaukee Police: 2 children shot inside car

VIDEO: Two children were hospitalized after they were shot inside a car, Milwaukee's deputy fire chief said Monday night. It happened near N. 26th St. and W. Concordia Ave. around 8:30 p.m., police say. An unknown suspect in the area fired multiple shots, one of which hit the car the two children were traveling in.

Man injured in diving accident on Lake Wazeecha

Few details were available Monday about a man injured Sunday in a diving accident on Lake Wazeecha. A caller reported a man not breathing and lying on White Sands Beach, 5600 Wazeecha Ave., Grand Rapids, at 3:54 p.m. Sunday, according to the Wood County dispatch log. A Grand Rapids officer reported the man said he was tingling from the neck down, according to the report.

Woman arrested in arson fire near Marquette campus

A 33-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of arson after a Sunday evening apartment fire near the Marquette University campus, police said. Firefighters got the call at 7:55 p.m. for the fire near North 29th Street and West Wisconsin Avenue. There was no immediate word if anyone was hurt. The case will be turned over to the Milwaukee County District Attorney.

Fire forces 2 families from apartment building in Fox Crossing

Two families were forced from their homes overnight as a result of a fire at an apartment building in Fox Crossing. Firefighters say they were called to 2211 Southwood Dr. just before 10 p.m. Sunday. Crews discovered the fire in a wall of a first-floor apartment. Firefighters isolated the fire to a small section of the wall.

Lightning strike likely cause of Chippewa Falls garage fire

A lightning strike is the likely cause of a garage fire, according to the Chippewa Falls Fire Department. It happened just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday at 416 Herbert Street. According to the fire department, multiple trees fell across the driveway during the storm and access was difficult. Heavy smoke was coming from the attic of a steel garage that was used to work on vehicles.

Dover: Five taken to hospital after Raynor Road crash

Five people were sent to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash Saturday at the intersection of Raynor Avenue and Highway 20. At 10:10 p.m. Saturday, a Kansasville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the intersection after a Chrysler reportedly pulled out in front of a Jeep, according to Kansasvile Fire Chief Scott Remer.

Milwaukee County wins gold for excellence in heart attack response

Town of Stinnett house destroyed by fire

Town of Hayward Firefighters reported to a house fire on Friday night, June 15, at 1653W Lee Rd. in the town of Stinnett. The house was consumed by flames. On Saturday, June 16, the firefighters returned around 2:15 p.m. to put down small flames that had reignited. Land records show the home belongs to Lynda G.

Firefighters rescue woman stuck in downtown Madison tree, Madison Fire Department says

Firefighters rescued a woman from a tree in downtown Madison Thursday afternoon, according to a news release. The Madison Fire Department said a crew responded at about 4 p.m. to the 400 block of Henry Mall to assist a 20-year-old University of Wisconsin-Madison student who climbed a tree on the mall but couldn't get down.

Multiple Agencies Come Together to Put Fire out at Belmark

A fire on the Belmark campus in De Pere prompted multiple agencies to respond including Ledgeview, Bellevue, Ashwaubenon and County Rescue. It happened today around 5:00 pm when a paper shredder was on fire in the mechanical room of a building. The motor had caught fire and while the fire was put out in the first ten minutes, very heavy smoke continued.

Interview process underway for Holmen Area Fire Department Assistant Chief

VIDEO: The Holmen Area Fire Department Fire Board is moving ahead to fill the Assistant Fire Chief position. New Merrill Fire Chief formally introduced

The Merrill Fire Department searched across the country for a new fire chief. But the chief it picked ended up close to home. Josh Klug was introduced as the new fire chief at a badge pinning ceremony Thursday morning. He previously served as a firefighter in Merrill for 11 years before leaving for a new job in Mosinee in 2013.

Car fire spreads to home in Racine

A car fire was quickly put out in Racine before it extended into a home early Thursday morning. Authorities say they were called to the area near 11th St. and Davis Pl. around 3:11 a.m. When crews got to the scene, the fire was spreading to a nearby home. Firefighters were able to put out the fire before it got into the home.

Wisconsin suicide rate has increased 25 percent since '99, mirroring national problem

MHA of Wisconsin contributes to the initiative by organizing Zero Suicide training sessions in which clinicians, as well as other community members like police officers and firefighters, are educated on how to recognize warning signs. Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire stretches out in new station

The Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department will have plenty of room to grow in the future at its new facility on County Highway C in Brussels. The joint venture with Door County Emergency Services has benefited from local support as well as federal grants and surplus programs to help make the facility state of the art.
