Crews spend hours battling Clark County wildfire

VIDEO: A wildfire has burned 20 acres near Bruce Mound Winter Sports Complex in Clark Co. as of Sunday afternoon. Fire officials said several homes needs to be evacuated because of the blaze, however they were allowed to return home late Sunday night. That's just one of several wildfires reported in the county.

Air, Water Monitoring Continues After Superior Refinery Explosion, Fires

Environmental monitoring is continuing Sunday after an explosion and series of fires at Husky Energy's oil refinery caused a temporary evacuation Thursday. Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the company continue to monitor air and water quality around the refinery.

Red Cross assisting family of 4 after house fire in New Berlin, cause under investigation

VIDEO: Firefighters from several departments on Monday morning, April 30 responded to the scene of a house fire near S. Amor Drive and W. Cleveland Avenue in New Berlin. The call came in around 3:00 a.m. When crews arrived on scene flames were shooting from the roof of the home. Officials believe the fire started in the garage.

Green Bay: Man Fished Out Of The Fox River

A man was rescued after he jumped into the Fox River in downtown Green Bay this morning. Green Bay Metro Fire says they were called to an area on the Main Street/Nitschke Bridge just after 5. When crews arrived they found the man in the water, struggling to stay afloat. A life ring was tossed to the man and two firefighters, dressed in cold water rescue gear, got into the water and brought the man safely to shore.

Update: Explosion rocks Superior, Wisconsin refinery; fire chief says at least 11 people hurt

VIDEO: Authorities said a fire at a northwestern Wisconsin refinery where an explosion injured at least 11 people was out and people were being allowed back in their homes Thursday night after most of the city of Superior was forced to evacuate. Douglas County officials posted an update saying the fire was extinguished but asking residents in the evacuation area to stay away from their homes for at least another two hours.

Machine shed total loss in brush, structure fire in Village of Elderon

VIDEO: A machine shed and everything inside of it is a total loss from a brush fire that spread to the building Thursday afternoon, according to the Hatley Fire Chief. Crews are battling the brush fire in Village of Elderon, according to dispatch reports. Some of the larger equipment was taken out before the shed burst into flames.

Grass fires break out along railroad tracks in Kronenwetter

Multiple grass fires broke out Thursday near a set of railroad tracks at Old Highway 51. Firefighters responded just after 1 p.m. to a series of reports of fires stretching from Maple Ridge Road to Kowalski Road. The fires were under control by 2 p.m. but still smoldering as firefighters doused hot spots.

Local fundraising scam targets Little Chute Fire Department

Citizens in the Little Chute area are receiving fraudulent mailers requesting donations for the "Little Chute Area Volunteer Firefighter Drive", a statement from the Little Chute Fire Department said. The mailer explains why you are receiving the donation form and offers multiple ways for you to make your payment.

At Least 5 Injuries in Superior Explosion

The Superior Fire Department says there are no fatalities in the explosion at the Husky oil refinery, at least 5 Injuries have been reported. The explosion happened at about 10:06 a.m. at the refinery, which is in the city's East End. The nature of the casualties was not immediately disclosed.A contractor who was inside the building told Eyewitness News it sounded like "a sonic boom.

Oregon area controlled burn leads to structure fire causing $30,000 in damage

A controlled burn in the Town of Oregon got out of control Wednesday evening and ignited a structure fire, officials said. Firefighters with the Oregon Area Fire and EMS District were dispatched to the structure fire around 5:45 p.m. at 585 Tipperary Road. When crews arrived, they found a shed fully engulfed by fire with some extension into nearby vegetation, according to a news release from the district.

Spooner Firefighter Dies from Heart Attack after Response

A veteran firefighter in a small community in northwestern Wisconsin has died following a response. The U.S. Fire Administration on Thursday announced the line-of-duty death of 69-year-old Spooner volunteer firefighter Philip H. Neubich, who was a 38-year veteran of the fire service. Late on Tuesday evening, Neubich responded to his fire station when the department was paged out for a reported gas leak inside a residence.

Multiple fire departments respond to Town of Marathon grass fire

Fire crews responded to a grass fire off County Road O in the Town of Marathon Wednesday afternoon. SAFER Chief Matt Savage says the call came in before 4 PM. A large field was in flames upon their arrival. Additional crews from Marathon Fire, Mosinee Fire and Wausau DNR responded. Firefighters spent the next two hours extinguishing the blaze and putting out hotspots.

Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association Creates Mental Health Task Force

The Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association has created a task force to help firefighters who are struggling with mental health issues. The association’s president Jon Cohn said they hope the task force will provide a statewide network of support to firefighters who are struggling with mental health issues.

10 people taken to hospital after Green Bay apartment fire

A fire broke out early Wednesday at an apartment complex on the east side of Green Bay. The apartment is located at 1444 Smith Street and the fire broke out around 5:50 a.m. 10 people were taken to the hospital. Most of them suffered smoke inhalation. There are were working smoke detectors in the building.

Green County volunteer firefighter welcomed home after 2016 accident

VIDEO: Almost two years after a near-deadly accident sent a Green County man to the hospital, he's finally back home with his family. Dean Walz was welcomed home to Albany Tuesday with a police and fire escort to his new house. In June 2016, he fell about 75 feet when a bucket truck's boom broke while was working for a tree-trimming company.

Superior firefighters mourn lost brother

The Superior Fire Department was rocked last week by the loss of one of their own. Battalion Chief Erik Sutton, 46, who retired in March after serving for 20 years on the department, died April 18. The cause of death was not released. "As a department we are trying to cope and understand this loss," wrote Fire Chief Steve Panger in a Monday news release.

A Superior Fire Department battalion chief who retired just a few weeks ago died on April 18 after "a long and brave struggle" with mental illness, Mayor Jim Paine said on Tuesday. Erik Sutton, 46, who had served on the Superior Fire Department for 20 years, took his own life, Paine said. Sutton had sought and received care prior to his death.

City of Racine garbage truck catches fire

An unmanned garbage truck caught fire near the city’s Pearl Street Facility at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday. No one was injured, although smoke could be seen from more than a mile away. The vehicle was idling in the city’s bulk garbage lot at 830 Racine St. when heavy smoke and fire were observed coming from the cab, according to a release from the Racine Fire Department.

'Harmless' substance leaks into neighborhood after fire at Oshkosh industrial plant

Firefighters say a white residue that has emerged in a neighborhood after a fire is harmless. The Oshkosh Fire Department says it was called to a fire at A.P. Nonweiler, 3221 Hwy. A, just after 6 p.m. Monday. A.P. Nonweiler makes industrial coatings and paints. The building's sprinkler system contained the fire, and firefighters were able to put it out quickly.

One person killed in Pepin County grass fire

One person died in a Monday afternoon fire that burned a small barn, tin outbuilding and a couple acres of grass in Pepin County. The Pepin County sheriff’s office withheld the victim’s identity on Monday night, pending notification of family. Emergency workers were called at 3:03 p.m. for a fire with possible fatality at N7050 Hayes Road in the town of Lima.
