Stevens Point apartment fire displaces one resident Saturday

Firefighters contained a fire to the apartment where it started early Saturday morning on Indiana Avenue. When the Stevens Point Fire Department arrived at 2601 Indiana Ave., Stevens Point, shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday, they found smoke coming from the roof on the north corner of the apartment building, according to the fire department.

La Crosse Fire Department responds to minor fire at UWL residence hall

The La Crosse Fire Department was dispatched Thursday night to a fire at Eagle Hall on the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse campus. The fire alarms triggered the response at 6:47 P.M. Firefighters encountered a moderate amount of smoke on the first floor. Fire Inspectors later determined that a floor fan that malfunctioned started the fire.

Tornado hits Deerfield business

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in the Village of Deerfield on Thursday, Aug. 9. Dane County Sheriff's Lt. Krista Ewers-Hayes said at approximately 3:52 p.m., a citizen called the Dane County Communications Center and reported a possible tornado touchdown near the business park in the Village of Deerfield.

The Milwaukee Fire Department’s Unknown Heroes

A fire truck making its way to a scene, sirens blazing, is a common sight in cities and towns across America. But within the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD), there's a support staff responsible for maintaining all the equipment firefighters depend on. For this week's Bubbler Talk — our series that allows you to ask WUWM questions about Milwaukee —questioner Jay Blanchett wanted to know about a special kind of fire truck: Why, since I’ve lived here for 22 years now, I have never seen a tiller truck in the Milwaukee area? While looking into Jay's question, we were able to learn about a whole, less publically known division of the fire department.

Hales Corners Fire Department warns residents about scam

The Hales Corners Fire Department is warning residents about a scam going through the community. Fire officials say some residents have received letters asking them to volunteer for the fire department and to donate money. The letter claims to be from the “Hales Corners Area Volunteer Firefighter Drive”.

New Holstein Fire Department officials hand out checks to organizations

New Holstein Fire Department officials recently handed out checks to local organizations which assisted them with their recent Firemen’s Picnic. The New Holstein Boy Scouts do park clean-up and receive money from all the aluminum cans they collect—about 543 pounds this year. They also receive community service hours for assisting.

Man rushed to hospital after gas stove explosion in Tigerton

A man was airlifted to a Madison hospital Thursday morning for burn treatment after a gas stove explosion at a hunting shack in Tigerton. Tigerton fire chief John Gutho tells NewsChannel 7 the man was lighting a gas stove to make breakfast and a gas leak caused the explosion. Emergency crews responded to the property on Wendt Road in Tigerton just after 8 a.

Retired firefighter selected as marshal for Clintonville parade

Retired fireman Mike “Cheese” Stemper has been selected as parade marshall for the annual Fireman’s Festival on Aug. 11 in Clintonville. Stemper has retired from the department but is now a member of the Fire Police. Those serving with the Fire Police are on a call system. They can be called to the station and often asked to help at the scene of the fire call, or they may remain at the station to assist should another call come in.

Explosion in basement destroys Sheldon family home, business

VIDEO: A family of four in the Village of Sheldon is safe after an explosion in the basement of its bar and home left it destroyed. In the village of Sheldon, some locals wear many hats. "I have a lot of em’!” jokes Jim Shaw. “Village president, captain of the fire department, what else do I do?” Early Tuesday morning, Jim Shaw put on an important one, as he and 70 other firefighters battled flames engulfing Sheldon’s Reich’s Roadhouse, which is not only a beloved village watering hole, but also the Reich’s family home.

16-year-old hospitalized after free climbing fall at Rib Mountain quarry

A 16-year-old boy has been hospitalized after falling from a cliff at Rib Mountain quarry. The teenager fell and was injured just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, South Area Fire District Captain Tim Stieve said. The boy slipped while free climbing on the cliffs with a group of people, Stieve said. He suffered significant injuries as a result of the fall.

Madison firefighters find residents illegally burning box spring, warn of city ordinance

Firefighters had to remind three downtown residents Tuesday night of the city’s burning ordinance after they responded to reports of a large fire in a backyard, according to a release. Crews were sent around 11:30 p.m. to the 100 block of Lathrop Street for reports of a large fire in a backyard, officials said.

Sun Prairie Culvers raises more than $ 21,000 for firefighter's families

The Sun Prairie Fire Department was honored Monday, Aug. 6 with a special guest. Duane Sprecher, owner of the Sun Prairie Culver's restaurant, presented a check for $ 21,642.83 to go toward Capt. Cory Barr's family as well as Firefighter Ryan Welch's family. The money was collected with 50 percent of proceeds from one day's sales in addition to funds collected in a donation jar on the restaurant's front counter.

New La Crosse firefighters go through hands-on training

VIDEO: The La Crosse Fire Department has welcomed five new firefighters. However, before responding to calls, the new recruits are required to go through four weeks of training. Update: Police Say Murder-Suicide in Town of Clayton House May Fire

Investigators have ruled a deadly house fire in the Town of Clayton a murder-suicide. On Tuesday, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the State of Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation and the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, completed the investigation into the deaths of 27-year-old Ashley Mielke and 38-year-old Jeremy Wallenfang, whose remains were located in the burned rubble.

Fond du Lac Firefighters Prepare for Fill the Boot Campaign

The Fill the Boot campaign is back this week – as the Fond du Lac Firefighters Local 400 aims to raise more money than ever to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Car fire damages two Sturtevant homes

PHOTO: The South Shore Fire Department was notified of a vehicle fire between two houses at 3202 Kennedy Drive at 4:11 p.m. Sunday, according to a press release from Battalion Chief Steve Salvo. After arriving on the scene, Sturtevant Police Department officers confirmed a fully involved vehicle fire and started evacuating residents from duplexes located on both sides of the vehicle fire.

Wauwatosa Fire Department Earns Prestigious ISO Class 1 Rating

The City of Wauwatosa Fire Department has received the Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification rating of Class 1. This rating has only been received by six fire departments in Wisconsin and approximately 300 nationwide. The ISO currently evaluates over 50,000 fire departments with only less than 1% earning the Class 1 rating.

Madison police, fire go head-to-head in First Responders Bowl

VIDEO: Madison's hometown heroes took to the field Sunday for a flag football game to benefit local students. The Madison Fire Department went head-to-head against the Madison Police Department in the first-ever First Responders Bowl at Breese Stevens Field. The first responders participating say it was a good opportunity to show the kids they're normal people.
