Firefighters plan smoke detector giveaway in Genoa City

For this year’s Fire Prevention Month, the Bloomfield Genoa City Fire & Rescue Association hopes to improve fire safety in the community. In conjunction with Bloomfield Genoa City Fire & Rescue, the association is holding an upcoming smoke detector drive. During the month of October, smoke detectors will be available at the fire station on 1113 Clover Road in Bloomfield.

Fire damages machine at Eau Claire business

About $200,000 in damage was caused by fire to a machine and duct work Tuesday morning at Dynamic Fabrication & Finishing at 800 Wisconsin St. The fire was reported at 7:38 a.m. The business was evacuated by the time Eau Claire firefighters arrived. Firefighters extinguished the fire, which was contained to the machine and adjacent duct work.

Milwaukee firefighters trained on domestic violence

VIDEO: The Milwaukee Fire Department is requiring its 800 firefighters go through a domestic abuse training session. To cover all the first responders, sessions are being offered at the Milwaukee Fire Academy over a three month period. It’s part of a health and wellness program within the department that’s been around for almost ten years.

Green Bay Metro Fire Station Out of Commission Due To Flooding

A Green Bay Metro Fire Station suffered severe flood damage during Monday night's storms. "Our Fire Station 5 suffered major flooding, rendering the building uninhabitable," said Fire Chief David Litton. The station on Finger Road is expected to be closed for a lengthy period of time while repairs are being done.

Recognize him? Suspect wanted in connection with Milwaukee stabbing, vehicle fire

Milwaukee police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for a battery cutting and an arson to a vehicle. It happened near 26th Street and Mineral Street. According to police, on Saturday, Sept. 15 around 10:30 p.m. the suspect stabbed the victim over stolen property. The suspect fled the scene — then came back to the area on Sunday, Sept.

South Shore Fire Department welcomes new rig, chief warns about other equipment needs

At Mount Pleasant Day on Saturday, the South Shore Fire Department showed off its newest vehicle, a new aerial ladder with capabilities beyond what the department’s current vehicles can do. South Shore Fire Chief Robert Stedman also showed off the ladder to the Village Board on Sept. 10; he said the new truck replaces an older ladder from 1992 and “to say it was worn out would be an understatement.

Lincoln County, firefighters take efforts to prevent troublesome suicide numbers

VIDEO: A decade ago, some of the highest rates of suicide in the state came from Lincoln County. Those numbers have improved slightly since then. But death by suicide is still a major concern in the area. A billboard in the center of Merrill serves as a reminder. It directs people to call the Hopeline, a free crisis prevention line.

Wind Lake names new fire chief

The business of firefighting has changed a lot since Don Catenacci, Wind Lake’s new part-time fire chief, started firefighting in 1977. “My biggest issue is the same with every other volunteer fire department: it’s retaining and maintaining volunteers,” said Catenacci, who is Wind Lake’s first paid chief.

Hazmat crews respond to Kenosha County Walmart after employees sickened

It was a scary situation at the Walmart in Salem after three workers had to be taken to the hospital. It happened Sunday morning at the location on Brumback Boulevard. The employees got sick after spending time in a cooler. A hazmat crew came in and evacuated the store while they checked it for dangerous gasses.

Pancake breakfast raises funds for Chippewa fire station equipment

VIDEO: A couple hundred people in the Town of Lafayette spent their Sunday morning at the fire station to enjoy some pancakes. The Chippewa Fire District Lafayette Station Number 3 held its annual pancake breakfast to raise funds for the station. Although the pancake breakfast is a long standing tradition, this is the first year it was held at the newly remodeled fire station.

Fire chief: No need to panic about future of Milton fire station

Milton’s outdated fire station has sparked a lot of discussion about how to serve the fire district’s 90 square miles, but a firm plan for the future remains hazy. The man in charge of prodding the process along sees no reason to panic, however. Randy Banker, fire chief for Janesville and Milton, is developing a process to generate estimates on several options, including a new or renovated fire station, a new station shared with Janesville or a combination of the two.

Follow Up: West Allis Firefighter reunites with family of woman he performed CPR on while being attacked

The family of Arlene Wendler is forever grateful to West Allis firefighter, Chad Staszak. “I can’t think him enough for being there to try to save my mom’s life…I just appreciate it,” said Joyce Gebert. Last month at West Bend GERMANfest, Wendler went into cardiac arrest. Staszak, who was off-duty, performed CPR on her.

Janesville Fire Department: No injuries reported in overnight Texas Roadhouse fire

Janesville police are investigating the cause of a fire at Texas Roadhouse overnight. According to a news release, the Janesville Fire Department responded to the Texas Roadhouse in the 3200 block of Deerfield Drive around 12:15 a.m. Friday for a report of a commercial fire. Responding units said they found an active fire and smoke visible in the front of the building when they arrived at the scene.

One person hospitalized after fire damages Green Bay apartment complex

One person was injured after a fire damaged a small apartment complex Thursday evening. Firefighters were called to the apartments in the 1100 block of Brosig Street shortly after 6:15 p.m., a press release from the Green Bay Metro Fire Department said. When fire crews arrived, they found fire coming from one unit of the four unit single story apartment complex, the release said.

Janesville Fire Department Receives Firehouse Subs Grant

The Janesville Fire Department is pleased to announce it was recently awarded a nearly $5,700 grant from Firehouse Subs to purchase a new dive communications system. Firehouse Subs, a national sandwich shop chain known for their philanthropy and giving back to public safety organizations, opened a location on the north side of Janesville in 2016.

Rash of overdose deaths doesn't surprise Columbia County first responders

Columbia County detectives are investigating four overdose deaths in the span of six days, though preliminary evidence is pointing to a somewhat mundane explanation. “It’s very easy for people to attribute multiple overdoses to a ‘bad batch theory’ and I don’t necessarily buy that,” said Portage Police Department Detective Lt.

City breaks ground on Fond du Lac Police, Fire/Rescue Public Safety Training Center

Follow Up: West Allis Firefighter recognized for continuing CPR on woman while being attacked

VIDEO: A West Bend man is now charged after allegedly attacking an off-duty firefighter who was performing CPR on a woman. Robert Ryan, 32, is facing charges of Misdemeanor Battery, Obstruction of Emergency or Rescue Persons, and Disorderly Conduct. According to the criminal complaint, off-duty West Allis Firefighter Chad Staszak was performing CPR on an unresponsive woman at GERMANfest in West Bend on August 24.
