Four departments respond to Town of Forest fire

Four fire departments from the surrounding area converged on an apartment building located at 2695 Highway 64 in the Town of Forest to put out a fire that started in Thursday, Aug. 23, around 8:50 a.m. The building is located just west of County Road D in Forest Township and is owned by Randell Olson, according to St.

Appleton International Airport gets $10.4 million to build fire and rescue training center

The Appleton International Airport has been awarded $10.4 million by the U.S. Department of Transportation to build a regional aircraft fire and rescue training facility, U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin announced Thursday. Baldwin worked to secure federal funding for the project after similar training facilities closed in Michigan and Minnesota, which made it difficult for airport firefighters to find a place to train in the region.

Plover firefighter who saved man receives honor

The car was on fire, and the driver was at risk. Tom DeWitt, with seven others, acted fast: They pulled the driver out of the car, saving his life. DeWitt, who is an assistant fire chief for the village of Plover, on Tuesday received the department's highest honor, the medal of valor, for his role in saving a man from a burning car in February near Rocky Run and Little Chicago Road in the town of Carson.

Belleville steps up to help firefighters dealing with flooded fire station

Wisconsin DNR, Firefighters Fighting West Coast Fires

The wildfires in California are at historic highs as active fires continue to burn from Northern to Southern California. But the firefighters there aren't alone. As of this Tuesday morning, Wisconsin has 37 state affiliated firefighters on state assignments and four type 6x engines on assignment. Below is a list of where the firefighters are stationed and how many are there: Wyoming - 3, one engine.

Gas leak in Appleton townhome causes evacuations

A natural gas leak in a townhome Tuesday afternoon caused the evacuation of adjoining units, according to the fire department. The leak at 1807 Robin Way was reported at 2:30 p.m., Appleton Fire Department Battalion Chief Ethan Kroll told USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin. The first firefighters to arrive confirmed a smell of gas and meter readings on the outside of the building.

‘Shook the whole truck:’ 4-alarm fire damages Gleason Redi-Mix in Burlington; no injuries

Winnebago County 911 center revamp project moving slowly

The plan to revamp the Winnebago County 911 emergency communications center has made little progress since talks started last December, with stakeholders wondering how long any potential consolidation process will take. The Winnebago County Board may vote Thursday on a $31,283 budget amendment from Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana to fund the 911 center through September, the end of the county's budget year.

Beloit fire staff assist with flood rescue

Beloit Fire Department staff assisted with flood rescue efforts in Dane County after torrential rains caused widespread flooding Monday night around Madison. Six swift water rescue team members and Fire Chief Brad Liggett were dispatched to rural parts of the county at 11:50 p.m. Monday, with rescue efforts continuing into Tuesday morning.

Bellevue Warehouse Fire Closes Portion of Verlin Road

PHOTO: A portion of Verlin Road was closed this morning in response to a small fire in a Bellevue warehouse. Firefighters got to the scene at about 6:20am, where no one was hurt and damage to the warehouse at Lok-Safe Storage was minimal. Verlin was closed between Bellevue Street and Lime Kiln Road for a couple of hours as the small flames were taken care of.

Motorcyclists, first responders bring Black River Falls firefighter home

VIDEO: It has been five days since the Black River Falls Fire Department announce the passing of their firefighter Alec Muth. Fighting fires and racing motorcycles were two of Muth's favorite activities. "We're going to miss his lightheartedness," said Bruce Bresee, an employee at Al Muth Harley-Davidson and family friend.

'There's water everywhere': Belleville dam breaches, evacuations underway

VIDEO: The dam in the Village of Belleville is overflowing with water, according to officials with the Belleville Fire Department. Volunteer firefighter Jeff Kankel said the whole community is involved in sandbagging and trying to save anything that is salvageable after the dam was breached. He also confirmed that people on the southeast side of town are being evacuated.

Crews recover body of man swept away in Dane County flooding

VIDEO: Searchers on Tuesday recovered the body of a man who was wrenched away from would-be rescuers during flash flooding that forced evacuations around Wisconsin's capital city and cut power to many homes. More than 11 inches (28 centimeters) of rain fell overnight in places in or around Madison, according to the National Weather Service.

State Of Emergency Declared For Dane County

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi has declared a state of emergency and one person has been confirmed dead after a deluge of heavy rain fell Monday evening. Eleven to 13 inches of rain fell in some areas of western Dane County, according to the National Weather Service, flooding major roads and intersections and knocking out power to thousands of people.

Recovery effort underway for a missing person after flooding in Madison

VIDEO: Crews are now working to recover the body of a missing person after flooding on Madison's west side, according officials on the scene. The search was originally a rescue, but was switched to a recovery effort on Tuesday morning. Firefighters in Madison are looking for a person who is missing after being caught in a vehicle that stalled in floodwater.

West Allis Fire Department Awarded International Reaccreditation Status

The West Allis Fire Department has received Accredited Agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) for meeting the criteria established through the CFAI’s voluntary self-assessment and accreditation program. The West Allis Fire Department is one of more than 250 agencies to achieve Internationally Accredited Agency status with the CFAI and the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc.

New Lisbon Fire Department gets new equipment

Firefighters at the New Lisbon Fire Department has a new tool at their disposal. “Wabash bought us a new set of confined space equipment,” said New Lisbon Fire Chief Lynn Willard. “It’s a cart that’s got two one hour bottles on it and two SCBA masks with 100 feet of hose for each one.” The New Lisbon Fire Department also now has a small air tank they can use to establish an air supply to an individual in need of rescue.

One Person Dead, One Missing After Pontoon Accident on Lake Wissota

VIDEO: One man is dead, and officials continue to search for another man after they went missing Saturday afternoon on Lake Wissota. According to Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk, the call came in Sunday morning shortly after 11. Kowalczyk confirmed on Sunday that a pontoon with a dog on board was up against the shoreline north of the hydro dam.

Weston family displaced by early morning fire

A fire that started in an attached garage spread to half of a home before it could be put out early Monday, according to fire department officials. Everyone was able to get out of the home in the 4800 block of Fuller Street when the fire broke out shortly after midnight, Weston, according to Fire Battalion Chief Steve Genrich of the South Area Fire and Emergency Response District.
