Janesville Fire Department to use drones to create pre-planned fire responses

Drones could be spotted "buzzing" around Janesville soon, according to a news release from the Fire Department. Fire Chief Randy Banker hopes that using unmanned aerial vehicles could help create actionable pre-planned responses to buildings across the city. Officials plan to collect aerial images of commercial structures that can be accessed by emergency responders at a moment's notice.

Resistance slows Baraboo Fire Department overhaul

Resistance from some veteran firefighters is slowing efforts to overhaul Baraboo Fire Department operations, leaders say. On Monday, the Common Council’s public safety committee voted 3-0 to extend its contract with RW Management Group, a consultant helping the Fire Department implement operational changes.

West Salem, towns move toward $1M fire truck purchase

The West Salem area may soon have a new fire truck, but it won’t come cheap. The West Salem Fire Protection District board has been discussing buying a pumper truck at a cost of $1,054,000, to replace the fire department’s current pumper truck that is more than 30 years old. The truck would come with attached with a 110-foot ladder.

Late night fire displaces 30 from north side Milwaukee apartment building

VIDEO: About 30 people are out of their apartments after a late night, 2-alarm fire on Milwaukee’s north side. The fire was reported in a 2nd floor apartment of a three story building at N 2nd and W Wright Streets. The Milwaukee Fire Department was called to the scene just after 10 PM. The fire was confined to one apartment, but according to MFD officials, three apartments are uninhabitable and the others apartments received smoke and water damage.

Superior shines in 'worst case scenario'

As a worst-case scenario played out in Superior on Thursday, it was met with a coordinated response. An explosion and fire at the Husky Energy refinery, followed by a second bigger fire, led to a state of emergency and the evacuation of much of the city. But no one died. Fewer than two dozen were injured.

Fire ravages fourth-generation Wheatland dairy farm

The Herda family has been in the dairy farm business for 100 years, and now it's picking up the pieces after a devastating fire. The fire Tuesday destroyed two buildings, and four other structures were damaged on the property in Wheatland. "It's devastating. We have so many childhood memories being here," said Rachel Crane, who grew up on the property now owned by her brother.

Woman suffering medical emergency bites Madison firefighter, scratches police officer

VIDEO: A Madison police officer and firefighter are recovering after being attacked by a woman who was having a medical emergency Tuesday morning. According to police, as officers transported a 44-year-old woman who was possibly having a seizure from North Third Street to the hospital, she became combative.

Outside restaurant steps used by smokers caught fire, Madison Fire says

An outside stairway used by people to smoke near a Downtown restaurant caught fire Tuesday, with firefighters quickly putting it out before closing the staircase. The fire was reported at about 3:35 p.m. outside Salvatore's Tomato Pies, 912 E. Johnson St. "A restaurant manager pointed firefighters to an exterior staircase, where two steps were smoldering," said Madison Fire Department spokeswoman Cynthia Schuster.

VIDEO: The remains of two people were found inside a burned home west of Neenah following a shooting and suspicious fire, the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday afternoon. "When we initially responded to the scene, it was reported that there were two people unaccounted for," Captain Lara Vendola-Messer said in a statement.

VIDEO: Residents are displaced after an apartment building fire in Seymour. The Outagamie Co. Sheriff's Office says firefighters were called to North Manor Apartments, 421 N. Main St., just before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Officials say the fire started in the attic of the 8-unit apartment building. However, they don't know how the fire started.

Human remains found following house fire in Town of Clayton; 'person of interest' sought

Human remains have been found at the scene of a house fire in Winnebago County. Sheriff's deputies say they are looking for a "person of interest" in the case. Sheriff's officials say they were called to 3302 Breezewood Ln. in the Town of Clayton just before 7 a.m. Deputies found what they describe as a "very chaotic scene.

Firefighters battle massive fire at auto salvage yard in Sullivan

VIDEO: Multiple fire departments battled a massive fire at an auto salvage yard in Sullivan on Tuesday morning. The fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. at Auto & Truck Salvage Parts on Highway 18 near Pioneer Road. News Chopper 12 over the scene and saw firefighters trucking water in. Crews had ladder trucks up to keep the blaze under control.

Black Creek house destroyed in Monday afternoon fire

PHOTO: Multiple departments were called to a house fire Monday afternoon. The fire at N5505 State Road was reported about 3:50 p.m., according to Sgt. Alex Krueger of the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department. He did not have any reports of injuries as of 6 p.m. There was no further information available as of Monday evening.

Multiple fire departments fight Devil's Lake blaze as DNR urges caution due to dry conditions

Multiple fire departments and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources teams battled a wildfire Monday at Devil’s Lake State Park. The blaze damaged about 2 acres of forest near the base of the Potholes Trail on the south end of the park’s east bluff. First Responders fill downtown Wausau for special photography event

VIDEO: Dozens of emergency responders and photographers were on-scene in downtown Wausau Monday afternoon. It was day two of a three-day photo workshop called After Dark 1274. Wausau Fire Chief Deputy named Merrill Fire Chief

The city of Merrill has appointed Josh Klug as fire chief. Klug most recently served as Wausau Fire deputy chief and has also been chief at Mosinee. Klug replaces former Merrill Fire Chief Dave Savone who abruptly retired in March. An official start date has not yet been decided.

Three Fires In Kenosha On Saturday

VIDEO: Firefighters had a busy day Saturday with three major fires breaking out within two hours of each other in Kenosha. No one was hurt, but houses, condos, garages and vehicles were destroyed or damaged. Firefighters were back at the scene of the condo fire twice yesterday as the flames rekindled.

Crews spend hours battling Clark County wildfire

VIDEO: A wildfire has burned 20 acres near Bruce Mound Winter Sports Complex in Clark Co. as of Sunday afternoon. Fire officials said several homes needs to be evacuated because of the blaze, however they were allowed to return home late Sunday night. That's just one of several wildfires reported in the county.

Air, Water Monitoring Continues After Superior Refinery Explosion, Fires

Environmental monitoring is continuing Sunday after an explosion and series of fires at Husky Energy's oil refinery caused a temporary evacuation Thursday. Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the company continue to monitor air and water quality around the refinery.
