2 in custody after post office in Barron County set on fire

Two juveniles are in custody after police say a fire was intentionally set at the Almena U.S. Post Office. The Turtle Lake police department says Almena firefighters responded to the scene around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night. When they arrived, there was heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building on all sides.

Misplacement of woman's remains could be detrimental to Wind Lake Fire Company

A local volunteer fire company may be forced to pay a potentially detrimental $80,000 bill after alleged mistakes outside the control of the company prevented an insurance company from covering the cost of rabies shots for six emergency responders. In late June or early July (the exact date has not been shared with The Journal Times), the Wind Lake Volunteer Fire Company reported that six emergency medical technicians responded to reports of a crashed vehicle near the intersection of Highway K and North Beaumont Avenue in the Town of Norway.

Milwaukee Fire Department firefighter injured after fire on city’s south side

PHOTO: One firefighter was injured after a fire broke out inside a home near Whitnall and Pine Avenue on Milwaukee’s south side early Sunday, Dec. 9. According to fire officials, a chimney fire extended into the surrounding walls of the home. The family was able to make it out before crews arrived. One firefighter suffered a cut and was transported to the hospital, where the firefighter was treated and released.

After tragic hit-and-run, the Chippewa Valley thanks first responders

'Hoarder' fire destroys Grafton condo

A Grafton condominium owner was displaced after the fire chief said hoarding made it much more difficult to put out flames that broke out Thursday night. Chief William Rice said his crews responded to a possible garage fire around 6 p.m, and when they arrived at the four-family unit, the fire had spread to the alley, and then to a car parked out front.

Dump truck catches fire on Highway 29 in Marathon

A dump truck is a total loss after it caught fire Friday morning on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 29 at Purple Martin Lane in the Village of Marathon. Marathon fire chief Mike Tylinski tells NewsChannel 7 the truck was engulfed with flames when his team arrived just after 8 a.m. Tylinski says the cause is undetermined but a mechanical issue is likely to blame.

Crews battle structure fire in Fitchburg

The Fitchburg Fire Department says they will return to the scene of a structure fire Friday morning to determine the cause. It says the fire does not seem suspicious at this time. Firefighters say the three people were evacuated from the building and worked with the Red Cross to find shelter for the night.

Report of gas smells prevents potential home explosion in Ellison Bay

The Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Department reminds people to stay aware of gas smells after a homeowner in Ellison Bay nearly lost her home to a gas explosion. A person passing by the area of Mink River Road reported a strong smell of gas before 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 29. Firefighters responded to the scene located near the site of a deadly explosion that happened more than a decade ago.

Dogs rescued from crates when fire breaks out inside Madison home

Firefighters rescued two crated dogs from a fire in the 200 block of North Owen Drive Thursday, according to a news release from the Madison Fire Department. A person getting off a metro bus reported the fire after noticing a strong burning smell and seeing smoke coming from the top of a house in the area.

Rice Lake factory fire extinguished early Thursday morning

A fire broke out early Thursday morning at a Rice Lake factory. The Rice Lake Fire Department got a report of a structure fire at about 2:04 a.m. at American Excelsior, 831 Pioneer Ave. When firefighters arrived, moderate smoke was coming from one end of the building. Firefighters entered the building and used foam to extinguish the fire.

Hartford couple loses everything in overnight house fire

A Hartford couple lost everything they own in an early morning house fire. Hartford Fire officials say they received the call just after 1:30 Thursday morning about the fire on East Summer Street that they say started in the basement. Officials say when firefighters arrived on scene they found heavy fire in the basement that extended up through the walls of the home.

Cambridge fire engine fundraising deadline looms

The Cambridge Area Fire Commission is reaching out to the community in hopes of finishing a fire engine capital campaign by the end of December. The total bill is $750,000. That includes about $570,000 for one engine in 2019 and $180,000 that will go into a fund to replace a second fire truck due to be retired in 2020.

Request to study second Beaver Dam fire station moves forward

The Beaver Dam Common Council will consider whether to fund a study about building a second fire station. The city’s Police and Fire Commission approved forwarding the request from Fire Chief Alan Mannel on Tuesday. Mannel has been lobbying since at least 2016, for a second fire station to address the fire department’s needs for more staff power as development continues on the city’s north side and the population ages.

Suspicious Polk County explosion leaves man critically injured

Polk County authorities said a man was critically injured Tuesday after an explosion at a house where suspicious chemicals were found. The man, whose identity was not released, was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for severe injuries to his hand and burns to other body parts, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Overnight fire on Green Bay's east side leaves four homeless, $75,000 of damage

Four people are homeless following a Tuesday night fire on the city's east side. Firefighters were called just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of smoke and flames coming from a home at 1738 Farlin Ave., according to a Green Bay Metro Fire Department news release. When crews arrived at the home, they were met with "heavy fire shooting from windows on two sides of the building.

Town of Fond du Lac volunteer firefighters seek new helmets through GoFundMe

VIDEO: Keeping the community safe is part of their job. Now, the Town of Fond du Lac Volunteer Fire Department is asking the public to contribute to their GoFundMe for new helmets to keep them safe. Made up of 35 members, the Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department serves an area of 36 miles and 3,500 residents on an all-volunteer basis.

Water leak, damaged electrical equipment shut down Pleasant Prairie RecPlex Tuesday

Pleasant Prairie RecPlex will reopen Wednesday after it was closed for repairs Tuesday after an electrical malfunction filled the building with smoke. The Pleasant Prairie Fire Department was called to the recreation center at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday after people at the center noticed a smoky haze in the building.

University of Wisconsin-Madison grad student doing engine tests hears 'whoosh,' sees 4-foot flames, officials say

A graduate student in a University of Wisconsin-Madison engineering lab heard a whoosh and saw flames Monday morning during a routine test of an engine, according to a release. Emergency crews were called around 8:45 a.m. to the Engineering Research Building in the 1500 block of Engineering Drive, officials said.

Barn fire in Stratford

Multiple fire crews were on the scene of a barn fire in Stratford on Monday night. It was reported around 9pm on Kraus Street. Fire responders said no people were hurt. There were chickens and sheep inside the structure; several were killed. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to a nearby house.
