An Oconto man was injured after a fire broke out Wednesday at his residence in the city of Oconto.
The Oconto Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched at about 11:52 a.m. to 445 Jefferson St., for a report of a burning structure with smoke and flames visible.

John Andersen, deputy chief of fire prevention, has served in the Chippewa Fire District since it was formed in 1978, and he’s seen plenty of challenging fires. Andersen says the blaze at The View tavern on Lake Wissota on Tuesday might be the most challenging in his four decades of service.

A fire that caused $12,500 worth of damage to a Madison home was the result of improperly discarded cigarettes, according to a news release from the Madison Fire Department.

Authorities have identified the man killed in a house fire in east-central Wisconsin.
Green Lake County sheriff's officials say crews were called to the fire at W2081 Tuleta Road north of Markesan near the south shore of Green Lake around 1:30 a.m. Sunday and found the house engulfed in flames. A chicken feed fundraiser took place Sunday for the Fall Creek Area Fire District. Besides lunch, the event also included paddle raffles and an open house. Firefighters say the money raised is used to purchase equipment, including a UTV and ice rescue suits. At 2:18 a.m. on Dec. 30, the Racine County Dispatch Center received a 911 phone call from a local man as a tragic series of events began to unfold. The caller said his girlfriend, 40-year-old Valencia Days, was suicidal and had driven her vehicle into Lake Michigan. A body found inside a burned vehicle located north of Chicago has been identified as that of a missing Milwaukee woman. Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper announced Thursday dental records confirmed the body found late Saturday is that of 56-year-old teacher Kathleen Ryan.
