Fire destroys building in Village of Warrens

The Town of Lincoln Fire Department released a statement saying they were dispatched to a fire at 3:19 a.m. Monday for a report of a house fire in the Village of Warrens. The unoccupied building, which was on the corner of Main St. and Market St., was fully engulfed when firefighter arrived, according to the statement.

Public encouraged to line procession route for funeral of Appleton firefighter Mitchell Lundgaard

First responders are encouraging the public to line the streets this afternoon for the funeral of Appleton firefighter Mitchell Lundgaard. The 14-year veteran of the Appleton Fire Department was fatally shot Wednesday while responding to a medical emergency at the downtown Valley Transit Center. He has since been posthumously promoted to driver/engineer.

Firefighters find body while battling Polk County house fire

A house fire turned deadly Friday in rural Polk County, according to authorities. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said firefighters extinguishing a blaze in the 2400 block of 90th Street in the town of Bone Lake discovered a body inside the home. McFarland Fire kicks of 'EMS' Week with pancake feast

The McFarland Fire Department kicked off National EMS Week with its annual pancake breakfast Sunday. People had the chance to meet their local fire and EMS volunteers as they cooked up a hardy meal. The week-long event works to honor the hundreds of thousands of EMS workers across country. Police provided additional details Friday about the gunfire that killed two people and injured two others Wednesday at the Valley Transit Center, but many questions remain unanswered. Green Bay Firefighters treated to lunch by the Salvation Army

Green Bay Firefighters were served lunch Thursday in honor of National Salvation Army Week. The Salvation Army's emergency disaster vehicle traveled to three different Green Bay stations in an effort to highlight local programs and services. Portage firefighters say hazmat training critical

No matter how unlikely, Portage Fire Chief Clayton Simonson says it’s better to be prepared than caught off guard when a hazmat team is needed for an emergency. Eight Portage firefighters recently earned hazmat certifications after completing a 40-hour training course run by the Regional Emergency All-Climate Training Center in neighboring Juneau County.

Columbia County Board OKs borrowing for radio upgrades

About 4½ years after borrowing $45.51 million for the biggest building project in Columbia County history, the County Board on Wednesday approved borrowing money for upgrades of the county’s public safety communications system and software for it. The resolution to borrow no more than $3.24 million passed 22-1.

Firefighter's shooting death leads at least two Milwaukee-area fire departments to procedure change

At least two Milwaukee-area fire departments will change their procedures after a firefighter was shot and killed Wednesday night in Appleton. Firefighter Mitch Lundgaard was shot while responding to a medical call at Valley Transit Center. A police officer and a woman were also shot. Investigators said the victims were shot after the 47-year-old suspect from the Wausau area was revived.

An Appleton firefighter died in a Wednesday night shooting at the downtown transit center. The firefighter was shot, along with three other people, while at the scene of a medical emergency, according to an Appleton Fire Department news release early Thursday morning. The firefighter, a 14-year veteran whose name was not released, died at a local hospital.

Endeavor Moundville first responders ask for harsher criminal penalties for Move Over law

The Endeavor Moundville Volunteer Fire Department hosted lawmakers and other local authorities to discuss how to better enforce the Move Over Law. Nearly four years ago, Endeavor Moundville firefighter Larry Millard was hit and killed when responding to the scene of an accident. Millard was a 34-year veteran of the department.

UPDATE: Durand firefighter involved in crash died from heart failure

New details are out on the Durand man involved in a crash earlier this week. On Monday, 30-year-old Kyle Hayden's vehicle went off the road on Highway 85, near West County Line Road in Pepin County. According to his obituary, Hayden died unexpectedly from heart failure, which led to the crash. He was was a member of the Durand Fire Department - an agency which responded to Monday's crash.

Sun Prairie Fire Department without place to train after vandals cause $30,000 in damage

The Sun Prairie Fire Department is looking for help identifying two people who vandalized its training facility in Angell Park. The vandals caused at least $30,000 in damage to the facility late last Tuesday night. Then, there was another incident exactly one week later. Officials released two photos on Facebook hoping that it could lead to catching the men.

One dies in fatal crash in Prairie du Sac

A two vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 12 and County Highway PF in the Village of Prairie du Sac resulted in one death May 14. The 5:45 p.m. crash involved a white Chevy sedan and a Chevy SUV. The SUV struck the sedan on the passenger side of the vehicle. "The driver of the of the Chevy sedan was transported to UW Hospital with serious injuries," said Sauk Prairie Police Department Sergeant Josh Sherman in a press release.

Training essential to life-saving cliff rescue missions, Baraboo fire officials say

Mark Willer, a Baraboo Fire Department lieutenant and EMS rope rescue team manager, peered over the west bluff at Devil’s Lake State Park Monday, watching as firefighter Dave Schrofer descended the cliff face. A few yards to Willer’s right, other rescue team members along the cliff’s edge called orders back to crews controlling rope mechanisms to safely lower Schrofer down as he hung above a steep drop to forested terrain.

Minocqua wildfire burns close to 40 acres of wooded land

A wild fire that burned approximately 40 acres of wooded land in Minocqua was put out by emergency crews Tuesday afternoon. The fire was burning about two miles west of Hwy 51 on Blue Lake Rd. near the intersection of Hahn Rd. The blaze was spotted by a DNR patrol plane shortly before noon, and the Minocqua Fire Department was dispatched to the scene shortly after.

1 dead in Superior house explosion, cause of blast under investigation

One person died and a house was destroyed in an explosion and fire Sunday morning in Superior, Wisconsin. According to Superior Police Department, a man believed to be the only person inside the home died in the explosion and fire at 2219 N. 22nd St. The body was found inside after the flames were extinguished.

Four adults, two kids displaced by early morning fire in Madison

Six people are displaced following an early morning fire on Madison’s east side. Firefighters were dispatched to a 4-unit apartment building on the 2900 block of Hoard Street. They arrived around 4:15 a.m. to find black smoke coming from the back side of the building, according to a release by the department.
