Fire causes $100,000 in damage to shed in Washington County

Firefighters on Sunday night, July 14 responded to the scene of a shed fire on Kettle View Drive near Badger Road in the Town of Kewaskum. The call came in around 9 p.m. The shed, which had become fully engulfed, was extinguished by fire personnel. The shed, and its contents, were a total loss estimated at over $100,000.

Exeter fire totals house, leads to $400,000 in damages

A house in Exeter was totaled after a fire caused $400,000 in damage Sunday morning. The Belleville Fire Department was dispatched to W. 2914 Willow Lane at 4:26 a.m. after reports of a residential structure fire. According to a Facebook post from the Belleville Fire Department, the family's dog alerted the homeowners to the fire.

No one hurt after a vehicle caught on fire in Kaukauna

Firefighters say no one was hurt after a vehicle was found on fire. The Kaukauna Fire Department responded for a report of a vehicle fire with flames visible around 3:07 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. Arriving firefighters found the vehicle parked on the side of 14th street away from any buildings. The occupant of the vehicle had parked and exited the vehicle after he noticed smoke.

Rice lake man charged with arson, mistreatment of animals and disorderly conduct

A Rice Lake man has been charged with arson of a building, mistreating animals and disorderly conduct. According to a Barron County criminal complaint, 37-year-old Eric Thorson of Rice Lake was out of control and had started a fire. Thorson was reported taking kittens out of his apartment and throwing them at the concrete ground, claiming he wanted to kill them all.

Shirtless, ‘highly intoxicated’ Whitewater man stole ambulance, prosecutors say

A shirtless, “highly intoxicated” man stole a Whitewater Rescue ambulance parked at the fire department and knocked over a sign, according to a criminal complaint filed in Walworth County Court. Prosecutors charged Andrew A. Dufek, 21, of 956 W. Conger St., Whitewater, on July 2 with burglary and operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Authorities report house fire in Orfordville

Multiple fire departments responded Thursday night to a report of an apparent fire of a home on East Spring Street on Orfordville’s north side, authorities said. According to emergency radio communications shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday, police officers reported the house apparently was fully on fire, and multiple local fire departments were being called in for mutual aid.

Charges dropped against Milwaukee firefighter accused of assault

Prosecutors dropped a second-degree sexual assault charge against Milwaukee Firefighter Michael Peden on Thursday. Peden and his attorney showed up at the Milwaukee County courthouse for a final pre-trial hearing and learned the state was dismissing the case against Peden. "We're happy he's been cleared of these charges," Peden's attorney Rebecca Coffee said.

Sheboygan firefighters extinguish garage fire Wednesday

A garage fire in the city Wednesday night caused about $2,000 worth of damage. Authorities responded to the blaze around 5 p.m. at 2606 N. 19th Street, according to the Sheboygan Fire Department. Officials said firefighters quickly put out the fire and limited damage to the garage and surrounding buildings.

Worker dies after fall at Oak Creek Amazon site

A worker died Wednesday after a fall at an under construction Amazon facility. It happened shortly after 10 a.m. at a construction site in the 9700 block of S. 13th Street in Oak Creek. A 911 caller reported the victim was operating a piece of equipment on an upper floor and drove the equipment out an open window.

Follow Up: Lessons learned from the Sun Prairie explosion one year later

In Sun Prairie, grass now grows where the Barr House and the Glass Nickel once stood at the corner of Main and Bristol Streets. No one injured, pets rescued from Red Wing mobile home fire

All occupants — including a dog and three cats — made it out safely after a mobile home caught fire Tuesday night, July 9, in Red Wing. Red Wing Fire Department responded after 6:30 p.m. to a report of a one-story mobile home on fire on Cottonwood Avenue, according to a news release. All residents were outside when firefighters arrived, and the four animals were rescued.

HAZMAT team called after reported chemical spill in Oak Creek

A hazardous materials team was called to an Oak Creek business for a report of a chemical spill. It happened at an industrial park on 6th Street, south of Rawson Avenue. The Oak Cree Fire Department says chemicals overflowed and were caught inside a containment basin. Firefighters don't know what kind of chemical it was and brought in the Milwaukee Fire Department's HAZMAT team to help investigate.

Kitchen fire damages Wauwatosa home

A home in Wauwatosa was heavily damaged Monday evening after a fire started in the kitchen. Firefighters were called to the home on N. 65th Street near Center Park around 7:25 p.m. July 8 after a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the home and called 911. No one was at the home at the time of the fire.

No injuries after fire in Milwaukee apartment building elevator shaft; some residents displaced

No one was hurt in a fire that began in an elevator shaft at an apartment building near Marshall and Juneau on Milwaukee's lower east side Monday night, July 8. It happened just after 9 p.m. at the four-story apartment building, and fire extended to the roof. Officials said it wasn't believed fire extended to any apartments, though there was likely smoke damage.

Rhinelander Fire Dept. kicks off Fill the Boot campaign

Rhinelander Fire Department kicked off another season of fundraising Monday for those living with muscle diseases. From July 11 to 13, Rhinelander firefighters will collect donations at the intersection of Dwight and Stevens streets. The department has partnered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or MDA, for over a dozen years.

Man found dead in vehicle that burst into flames in Milwaukee

Milwaukee police made a grisly discovery Monday morning, July 8 after a vehicle burst into flames near 9th and Cleveland. Police said officers were called to the scene around 3 a.m. After firefighters with the Milwaukee Fire Department extinguished the flames, a search of the vehicle revealed there was a body inside.

Sheboygan Fire Department fights three fires in seven-hour span

The Sheboygan Fire Department responded to three fires within seven hours beginning early Monday morning. Shortly after 2 a.m., heavy smoke and flames were reported coming from an apartment building in the 3400 block of 10th Street. Battalion Chief Robert Kocmoud said all rigs were on the scene. Firefighters then responded to a fire at a single-family home in the 600 block of Zimble Avenue at 3:29 a.

Appleton Fire Department sells thousands of t-shirts for Mitch Lundgaard's family

The Appleton Fire Department has sold thousands of t-shirts to raise money for fallen firefighter Mitch Lundgaard's family. After just two weeks of being on sale, the department has sold more than 4,000 shirts. Mitch Lundgaard was killed in a shooting at the Appleton transit center in May. The money raised is going to the Lungaard family.
