Memorial service honors fallen firefighters in Eau Claire

Sunday, a memorial service was held at Florian Gardens in Eau Claire, and across the nation, for those that unfortunately were unable to make it home safely from the job.

Milwaukee firefighter injured while battling house fire near 36th and Burnham

VIDEO: A Milwaukee firefighter suffered a knee injury while fighting a house fire on Milwaukee's south side on Friday morning, September 30th. Fire officials say they were dispatched to the house near 36th and Burnham around 6:25 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, intense flames were seen pouring from the attic of the structure.

Change in dispatching of Monona Fire Department tabled

While Monona City Council members appeared to be in favor of a proposal to shift the dispatching of local firefighters from Monona to Dane County, they were lacking a formal resolution to adopt when they met Sept. 19. Poynette-Dekorra EMTs dedicate themselves to Ironman

Spending almost 16 hours swimming, biking and running in a competition may not sound appealing to some people. But for two local volunteers, the event meant more than just completing another Ironman triathlon. Pete McCormick and Amber Hahn, both members of Poynette-Dekorra EMS, recently completed the 2016 Ironman Wisconsin in Madison.

Firefighters battle pole barn blaze in the Town of Waterford

Firefighters from three counties were reported to be battling a pole barn fire late Thursday night in far northwest Racine County. The 30-foot by 40-foot pole barn at 34625 Loland Drive was reported to be fully engulfed in flames at about 10:35 p.m. Thursday, according to police radio reports. Fire departments from the Tichigan, Waterford and Rochester were initially called the scene, west of Highway 83 and northwest of the Village of Waterford.

Update: No punishment for city administrator, fire chief in Merrill property case

No action will be taken against the Merrill city administrator and fire chief regarding some county owned property that was improperly removed from the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. “... although not in violation of city ordinance or polices, [Johnson's and Savone's actions] were in poor judgment”, read a fax from Merrill Mayor Bill Bialecki sent to media outlets Thursday.

Fire forces evacuation of coffee making business in Green Bay

Firefighters are responding to a building fire at 1545 Cormell Road in Green Bay. The address shows the business on fire is Private Label Coffee. Smoke was seen coming from the building and everyone inside was ordered to evacuate. This is a developing story and more information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

Sun Prairie Fire Chief cautions residents about solicitors

Sun Prairie Fire Chief Chris Garrison issued a memo on Wednesday, Sept. 21 relating to the solicitation of donations from Sun Prairie area residents. “Please be advised -- this is not any representatives from our organization,” Garrison said, referring to the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department and the Sun Prairie Fire Department.

Wausau: Suspect of Cabaret Bar Fire Arrested

The second suspect involved in the Cabaret Bar fire in early August has been arrested, but he isn't talking. 32-year-old Robert Hernandez was confirmed in Wausau police custody by Newsline 9 Wednesday, but officials say he hasn't been responding to questioning about what exactly occurred that night. Hernandez was also arrested for violating his felony parole.

Early morning fire destroys garage, SUV in South Milwaukee

Firefighters on Wednesday morning, September 28th were called out to the scene of a garage fire near 12th and Michigan in South Milwaukee. The call came in shortly before 1:00 a.m. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a fully-involved detached garage. Officials say the fire extended to an SUV parked adjacent to the garage and to the roof of an auto body shop located directly to the east.

Burlington fire departments hope to purchase new training facility

The Town of Burlington Fire Department and City of Burlington Fire Department are raising money to invest in a proposed emergency training facility for the west end of the county. A new training facility would allow the department to train in various fire scenarios, EMS situations, hazmat training, and specialized training such as high-angle rope scenarios.

Town of Center Fire Department awarded CHS Safety Grant

On Friday, September 23, 2016 CHS Larsen Cooperative employees Jeremy Hunt, Andy VanDyck and Mary Kay Cleven awarded a CHS Safety grant for $1,825 to the Town of Center Fire Department Joe Hofacker, Fire Chief and Matt Harrison. The fire department plans to use these funds to purchase a multi gas monitor.

Rock County fire internship benefits students and fire departments

VIDEO: An internship program in Rock County is helping fire departments better serve the community while also teaching students what it’s like to be a firefighter. The internship program started about three years ago in Edgerton. Since then, it has expanded to other fire departments in Rock County. Now, the program is offered in Edgerton, the Town of Beloit, Milton, Orfordville and Clinton.

2 taken to the hospital, including 18-year-old extricated from basement after fire in West Bend

Two people had to be taken to the hospital after a man reported an explosion and subsequent fire at a home in West Bend Monday morning, September 26th. Firefighters responded to the home on Eagle Lane around 8:15 a.m. after the Washington County Sheriff's Office was notified of the fire by a 911 caller, reporting an 18-year-old family member was trapped in the basement.

Fire simulation held in Chippewa Falls

VIDEO: Flames were flying at the Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds on Monday. It was all part of a training session over three years in the making. The Wisconsin Propane Education and Research Council teamed up with the Chippewa Falls Fire District, as well as some other local fire department, to hold a special training session.

Crews fight fire at Bellevue catering business

Three fire departments were called to fight a fire at a catering business in Bellevue on Monday. They were dispatched at 2:45 p.m. Monday to Biebel’s, 1234 Bellevue Street, where firefighters found light smoke coming from a utility/wash room. Crews found the fire in a bin of towels. They removed the towels from the building and put out the flames in the parking lot.

Mom gets child unbuckled before car goes up in flames, Madison officials say

A mom was able to get her child unbuckled from the back seat of their car Sunday morning before it went up in flames on Northport Drive, according to a release. The woman was driving a 2008 Chrysler 300 with a man down Northport Drive just before noon when they heard some crackling coming from the trunk of the car, officials said.

Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire station plans advance

The proposed new fire and ambulance station in Brussels was a topic for discussion this week in Sturgeon Bay and the Town of Union. At Tuesday's meeting of the Door County Board, the 19 Supervisors present approved a resolution spelling out a “land lease and construction agreement for (a) south ambulance station” to be located on County C, near the intersection with Wisconsin 57.

Dog dies in Juneau apartment fire

One dog perished in an apartment fire in Juneau on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters were dispatched at 4:30 p.m. to 214 N. Main Street for a fire in the upper apartment of a duplex. According to Juneau Fire Chief Curtis Ninmann the fire was contained to the apartment and only the room and contents of the apartment were destroyed.

Eau Claire firefighters pull two females from Chippewa River

Two females were pulled from the Chippewa River by Eau Claire fire department personnel Saturday. The fire department received a report at 4:44 p.m. of two females nearly in the middle of the river behind the city shops at 910 Forest St. The department launched two boats and a firefighter in a cold-water rescue suit entered the water.
