Follow Up: Assistant Chief, 53, Found Dead of Heart Attack at Eldorado Fire Station

The assistant chief of the Eldorado Volunteer Fire Department was found dead at the fire station on Jan. 10, hours after a meeting. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, a firefighter found Assistant Fire Chief Rodney “Tiny” Menne, 53, at 2 a.m. deceased from an apparent heart attack. The USFA has provisionally listed the event as a line of duty death.

Two Milwaukee mobile homes catch fire, spread to nearby building

Officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department are investigating after two mobile homes catch on fire — and the flames spread to a nearby building. Firefighters were called to the area of 38th and Vliet just before 2 a.m. Wednesday, January 25th. Upon arrival, crews found two mobile homes, which were parked behind a business building, in flames.

Fire destroys Winnebago County barn, multiple vehicles

A fire on Tuesday afternoon destroyed a barn and multiple vehicles that were stored inside. The barn was engulfed when firefighters arrived, according to Winnebago County Sheriff's Lt. Joe Kroncke. No one was injured in the blaze at 1911 Winnebago County II. But seven or eight vehicles that were being stored inside the structure were destroyed, said town of Neenah Fire Chief Ed King.

Firefighter hurt while fighting fire at mobile tattoo parlor in Milwaukee

A firefighter was injured while responding to a fire in Milwaukee early Wednesday morning. The fire was reported around 2:00 a.m. near 38th and Vliet streets. It appears that the fire started in a mobile tattoo parlor parked outside a tattoo shop. Flames spread from the truck to the business and caused significant damage.

Holmen Fire Department focuses fire safety education on different age groups

VIDEO: A local fire department is approaching fire safety education in a new way. The Holmen Fire Department will focus on common mistakes made by people in different age groups. Lessons will be different for the elderly, adults, teens, and children. The events will have different activities such as coloring books for children or obstacles for teenagers.

Couple displaced after Reedsburg house fire

A Reedsburg family is homeless after a fire broke out on Jan. 23. The house, located on Enterprise Drive near South Dewey Avenue, was destroyed despite firefighters working for hours to knock down the flames. No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported. Jordan Sullivan, who grew up in the house during her teen years, told the Times-Press she received notice of the incident around 9:30 a.

Basement fire forces family from De Pere home

A De Pere family is forced from their home Tuesday morning after an overnight house fire. Just before 2 .m., De Pere Fire Rescue was called to a home on Vista Circle when the homeowner found a fire in their basement. The homeowner put out part of the fire with his own fire extinguisher before fire crews arrived.

Firefighters from multiple departments battle blaze at barn in Racine County; no one hurt

Officials on Monday night, January 23rd were on the scene of a large barn fire in the Town of Raymond in Racine County. It happened on S. 51st Street near County Highway K around 8:45 p.m. Racine County Sheriff’s officials said the barn was fully engulfed. Multiple departments responded to fight the fire.

Madison crews put out, monitor insulation fire at construction site, officials say

PHOTO: Firefighters stayed at the scene of a construction site fire Monday afternoon to make sure newly sprayed foam insulation didn’t reignite after they extinguished the first round of flames, according to a release. Crews were sent to 431 W. Mifflin St. around 3:30 p.m., the side of the Mifflander Apartments, to investigate reported “off-gassing” resulting from foam installation sprayed into the ceiling, according to the release.

3 adults, 1 child fall through ice on Sauk County lake

One person was treated for hypothermia Sunday afternoon after falling through a Sauk County lake's ice, officials said. The Delton Fire Department said it responded to a report of four people who had fallen through the ice on MIrror Lake at 12: 15 p.m. while ice fishing. When crews arrived, all four people had pulled themselves from the water and the three adults were lying on the ice crawling toward shore.

Vehicle flips in Beaver Dam Creek, drowns two men

Two area men drowned late Sunday after their vehicle overturned in the Beaver Dam Creek. An Ashwaubenon man, 21, and a Green Bay man, 24, died despite efforts of sheriff's deputies and firefighters wading in waist-deep ice water to free them. The crash happened about 9 p.m. in the 2000 block of Memorial Drive.

Racine County firefighters back to work after health scares

Last summer, Alex Hagen struggled to pull his socks up and Rudi Betancourt strained to walk even a few steps. Hagen, a Caledonia firefighter, battled Ewing’s sarcoma, a type of bone cancer, while South Shore firefighter Betancourt was ravaged by Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer that affects the lymph nodes.

State disaster agency plans for climate change

In a shift from the practice of two other state agencies, Wisconsin emergency management officials have released new information on climate change and its implications for the state. In a report that it posted online last week, the state Division of Emergency Management devoted extensive attention to climate change and how a warming planet could spur natural disasters such as floods, drought and forest fires.

Dozens of firefighters battle overnight barn fire in Howard

VIDEO: Brown County sheriff's officials said crews responded to a fire on the 1500 block of Pinecrest Road just after midnight, Sunday. The Brown County Sheriff's Office and nine fire departments responded, including dozens of firefighters. The fire chief said multiple units responded because fire crews did not have access to a water source.

Three-Alarm Fire Causes Serious Damage to Milwaukee Furniture Store

Lake Geneva captain's focus is on fire department service

Following in her father’s footsteps, Capt. Zina Opper has been a firefighter/EMT in Lake Geneva since 1995, and she’s served fulltime with the Fox Lake, Illinois, Fire Department for 16 years. Opper was the featured firefighter by Fire Chief John Peters in the department’s recent monthly report to the Lake Geneva Police and Fire Commission.

Oconomowoc's Islami guilty of arson, to be sentenced in March

The arson and fraud case against Oconomowoc's Ybdi Islami will soon come to a close, ending one court saga involving the embattled Islami family. Islami, 61, pleaded no contest Jan. 13 to a felony arson charge in Waukesha County Circuit Court, according to online court records. Judge Lloyd Carter found him guilty the same day and will sentence Islami for the crime on March 8.

Todd English named La Crosse Firefighter of the Year for 2016

Eldorado Firefighter remembered for giving spirit

Rodney Menne lived his life giving, rather than receiving. He gave of himself to the Eldorado Volunteer Fire Department, the Eldorado community, and anything and everything of which he was involved. "He was a dedicated, dedicated fireman," town of Eldorado chairperson Gary Miller said. "I think that's what he lived for.
