Groceries left on the kitchen stove are being blamed for a fire that damaged a home at 12 S. Chatham St. on Wednesday. Altoona police and fire Chief Jesse James says the city needs to hire a full-time fire chief to meet the growing city’s demands. A fire in the kitchen of a Sun Prairie apartment was quickly put out Tuesday, but displaced one resident, the Sun Prairie Fire Department said. Shortly before 4 p.m., firefighters responded to an apartment complex on South Bird Street after reports of a structure fire, the fire department said.
