Lake Mills Fire Department and EMS studying all options

The City of Lake Mills and Lake Mills Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are coming together to determine the best way of serving the community. The two groups met May 7 and discussed a myriad of topics including the possibility of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two agencies. Both agencies will have a workshop May 15 to continue the discussion.

Fire in Merrill spreads to a barn before being put out

A fire in Merrill spread to a pasture and a barn before it could be put out. The Merrill Fire Department tells us a 911 call came in about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday with a report of a grass fire on Joe Snow Road. The DNR and several other fire departments were also called out. Owners of the property had been trying to burn out the inside of an old silo foundation.

Blue Mass Celebrated in honor of Madison first responders

For the second straight year, St. Bernard Parish in Madison hosted the annual Blue Mass in honor of all first responders. Fr. Michael Radowicz, pastor of St. Bernard, celebrated the Mass, along with several other priests from the Diocese of Madison. In attendance were Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney, Madison Police Chief Mike Koval, Madison Fire Department Chief Steven Davis, UW-Madison Police Chief Kristen Roman, members of their departments, and members of surrounding police, fire, and emergency worker agencies in Dane County.

Start date set for new Merril fire chief

Newly-appointed Merrill Fire Chief Josh Klug will start his new job on Monday, May 21. While his title may be new, Klug is no stranger to the Merrill Fire Department, having started his career in Merrill 16 years ago. Klug is a Merrill High School graduate and served 11 years with the Merrill Fire Department.

Occupant rescued, firefighter injured following house fire in Sheboygan

The Sheboygan Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 2300 block of North 25th Street on Wednesday afternoon. The 911 caller who lives in the home called to report that she was trapped inside of the home and unable to exit due to the heavy smoke. The fire department arrived on scene within three minutes.

Garbage truck catches fire on Milwaukee’s south side

PHOTO: Firefighters haven’t said what caused a garbage truck to catch fire on Milwaukee’s south side. The truck caught fire near 11th and Rodgers. The Fire Department says some sparking wires made it difficult for them to contain the fire.

La Crosse's fire chief pushes for regionalized agency

A fire call Saturday in the town of Campbell sparked La Crosse’s fire chief to ignite the concept of forming a regional department. But Chief Ken Gilliam, just shy of a year into the job, said leaders of La Crosse’s neighboring municipalities extinguished the idea. That means — at times — firefighters closest to an emergency won’t be the first to respond when another agency needs help.

Fire Severely Damages 140-Year-Old Milwaukee Church

PHOTO: A 140-year-old downtown Milwaukee church was heavily damaged by fire Tuesday. The blaze at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church broke out Tuesday afternoon and kept dozens of firefighters busy for hours. Deputy Milwaukee Fire Chief Christopher Snyder said the fire started at about 3:45 p.m. No cause has been announced, but the pastor said construction work was being done on the roof.

Ashwaubenon: Late Night House Fire, Investigation Under Way

Ashwaubenon Public Safety and fire crews were called to 965 Duchateau Avenue for an overnight house fire. When officers arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home. Chief Eric Dunning said that officers searched the first floor of the home and found no one inside. When firefighters arrived they did their own extensive search of the property.

Jackknifed semi snarls traffic in Hale Interchange, firefighters had to contain minor fuel leak

VIDEO: The ramp from northbound I-894 was temporarily closed Wednesday morning, May 16 due a jackknifed semi on westbound I-43 in the Hale Interchange. The Greenfield Fire Department says the semi struck a median wall. They had to contain a minor fuel leak before opening the road. No injuries have been reported.

Suspicious apartment fire injures three people in Milwaukee

VIDEO: Milwaukee firefighters are investigating a fire they believe to be suspicious. It happened at 39th and Hopkins around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16th. Several people had to be rescued from the second floor of the apartment complex. Three adults were treated for smoke inhalation and are expected to survive.

Wauwatosa: Unusual dryer fire prompts investigation into whether it’s ‘something that you, the homeowner, can clean’

VIDEO: More than two months after a fire in a Wauwatosa home, the basement was still in shambles. "We're well over the $100,000 mark in damage to the house," explained Adam Zinda of Paul Davis Restoration. Zinda had to wait for insurance investigators to clear the scene before he could start tearing out walls and floors damaged by soot throughout the house.

Electrical problem caused $100,000 fire at Monroe meat market

A fire Monday night at Zuber's Meats on 19th Street in Monroe caused about $100,000 damage, according to the fire chief. Chief Dan Smits says the department got the call around 5:16 p.m. The fire broke out in the smoker area and authorities believe it was an accidental electrical fire. No employees were inside at the time and no one was hurt.

Oakdale firefighters stay sharp during training day

Homes don’t catch fire as often as they used to. That’s a good thing, but it does raise the issue of keeping local volunteer firefighters in practice. The Oakdale Fire Department addressed that issue Saturday with its annual training day. This year’s training was conducted on a residential structure owned by Ray Habelman in the town of Byron.

Early morning fire destroys Marathon County garage

VIDEO: Fire crews battled a garage fire in Marathon County early Monday morning. The Athens and Edgar fire department responded to a call around 1 a.m. off of hwy M in Athens. Officials said when they arrived the garage was engulfed. The flames were about 14 to 15 ft high, destroying the garage. Next to it was a trailer home which also caught on fire.

Medical Examiner: 2 found dead in house fire near 25th & Melvina in Milwaukee

VIDEO: Two people have died in an overnight house fire on Monday, May 14. Firefighters were called to the home near 25th and Melvina just after 3 a.m. Fire crews were able to recover two victims from inside the home. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed with FOX6 that both residents died at the scene before 5 a.

Caledonia fire destroys motor home, vehicle and garage

A motor home, vehicle and garage were destroyed and a single-family home was damaged in an early-morning fire on Saturday. The Caledonia Fire Department received the initial fire call at 5:16 a.m. By the time firefighters reached 4541 Carter Drive, the RV was fully engulfed and the vehicle and attached garage also were on fire.

Beaver Dam Fire Department seeks teens for new career program

The Beaver Dam Fire Department is seeking teens to learn more about what it takes to be a firefighter and an EMT. Personnel from the department were on hand this week at Beaver Dam High School seeking out the next generation of those wanting to join the ranks of firefighters and EMTs/paramedics. The department was recruiting for its Explorer program over the lunch hour in the commons area of the school.

Reward increased to $20K for Lake Delton employee dormitory arson

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and its partners are now offering up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the Jan. 25 fire at the Wilderness Resort. ATF officials have determined that the incident was arson, according to a news release from the agency.
