Fallen firefighter's family in Appleton thanks community for 'overwhelming generosity'

The family of fallen firefighter Mitch Lundgaard has issued a letter thanking the public for their support in the wake of Mitch's death. Mitch Lundgaard was an Appleton firefighter who died back in May after authorities say a man named Ruben Houston exchanged gunfire with police. Mitch and other emergency crews were on the scene to treat Houston for an apparent overdose before Houston pulled out a gun and started firing.

13 cattle dead after barn fire in Waterloo

Firefighters on Wednesday morning, July 3 responded to the scene of a barn fire in Waterloo. Crews were called to the scene around 3 a.m. Authorities say 13 cattle died as a result of the fire, according to NBC 15. The fire temporarily shut down Highway 89 in both directions at County TV to County T.

Manitowoc firefighters restore 1935 Mack fire engine

After being sold at an auction more than 50 years ago, a 1935 Mack fire truck originally owned by the Manitowoc Fire Department is back in the hands of Manitowoc firefighters. "I just thought it would be so neat for the city and the citizens to be able to see a piece of history from so long ago," said Jeff Keehan.

Six people, 2 dogs escape house fire in Beloit

Six people were able to escape a house fire in Beloit on Tuesday afternoon. The City of Beloit Fire Department said they got a call about a fire on the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, the entire north side of the house was on fire. Because of the heat, crews requested mutual aid from other departments, including the Town of Beloit, South Beloit, Janesville, Town of Turtle, North Park, Harlem-Roscoe, Rockton and Edgerton.

Kenosha firefighters find 7-year-old Racine girl left at church alone

Firefighters at Kenosha's Roosevelt Road fire station reported finding a 7-year-old girl over the weekend who was reportedly accidentally left at a church. The girl told Kenosha Police she had gone to church with her grandparents Friday and had fallen asleep in a pew. When she woke up, the church was empty and everyone was gone.

Superior Fire Department Finally Moves into New Headquarters

A new fire station for the Superior Fire Department has been in the works for several years. Now they have finally moved into a new state of the art headquarters. The Superior Fire Department has now transitioned from 10,000 square feet to more than double the space. The new facility will provide a lot more room to store equipment and supplies.

Bipartisan bill would give tax break to volunteer emergency responders

Legislators on both sides of the aisle are seeking to recruit and retain more volunteer emergency responders by giving them tax credits. Assembly Bill 302 would create up to $1,500 in refundable tax credits for volunteer medical responders, firefighters and ambulance drivers in good standing with their departments.

Cause of two-alarm fire at the historic Hartland Inn remains under investigation

A two-alarm fire caused heavy damage to the Historic Hartland Inn on Saturday evening. Crews were called to the restaurant, located at 110 Cottonwood Ave, around 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival, fire crews saw smoke and flames showing from the northeast corner of the building. Incident Command activated the MABAS system to the second-alarm level.

Six adults, two children displaced by duplex fire in Janesville

Extra firefighters were needed to help with a duplex fire Saturday in Janesville because of this weekend’s heat and humidity. The duplex was located in the 300 block of North Chatham Street, said Janesville Fire Department Battalion Chief Ron Bomkamp. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the roof of the building.

Greenwood Fire Department: Lightning destroys barn, damages home

The Greenwood Fire Department responded to two reports of lightning striking structures over the weekend. WEAU-TV reports a house was struck by lightning around 8:45 a.m. Sunday. There was minimal damage to the home. A second call resulted in a barn being destroyed. The barn fire was reported around 11 a.

2nd-alarm fire engulfs 113-year-old building in Hartland

History was erased after a fire gutted the decades-old Hartland Inn Saturday night, June 29. It was just about closing time Saturday night at Beer Snobs' when owner, Steve Berger, started to see a swarm of fire trucks from the window. "We looked over at the Hartland Inn and saw smoke. When that happened, our hearts all dropped here," said Steve Berger, Beer Snobs owner.

Memorial ride honors Madison firefighter Richard Garner

Local firefighters and law enforcement officials rode their motorcycles across Southern Wisconsin Saturday to honor one of their own. The second annual Richard Garner Memorial Ride kicked off in Madison on Saturday morning. The ride honors Madison firefighter Richard Garner, who passed away in April 2018 when he collapsed after finishing a shift.

Lightning likely the cause of Coon Valley house fire

The Coon Valley Fire Department responded to a house fire on Mathison Lane, Thursday afternoon. When the department arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames, and the roof had already caved in. The residents of the house were not home at the time, but multiple pets were inside. It is not clear if they're still alive, but they are presumed to be dead.

1 dead in Stevens Point garage fire

One person is dead after a structure fire in Stevens Point Wednesday evening, according to the Stevens Point Police Department's assistant chief Tom Zenner. Stevens Point Fire Department received the call about the fire on Sixth Avenue at 6:47 Wednesday evening. Plover Fire, Town of Hull Fire and the Stevens Point Police Department also assisted at the scene.

Neighbors react to deadly Pickerel fire that left 6 people dead

The town of Pickerel is coming together after a devastating house fire claimed the lives of six community members including four children on Tuesday. Neighbors in the community tell NewsChannel 7 the victims were well-known residents in the area. “It’s a really sad day for everyone in the community,” stated Gerri Adams, who lives in the neighborhood where the fire happened.

Foundation to pay off mortgage for family of fallen Appleton firefighter

A national organization says it will pay off the home mortgage of the family of Appleton firefighter Mitch Lundgaard. Lundgaard was killed in a shooting last month at the transit center in downtown Appleton. The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is paying off the Lundgaard family's mortgage.

Sussex Fire Department helps a 9-year-old reunite two trapped ducklings with their mother and 14 siblings

When 9-year old aspiring wildlife animal rescuer Zoe Adkins saw a bunch of ducklings and their mother squawking, squeaking and clearly in distress across from Sussex's Madeline Park, she said, “Mom, we have to stop.” As Zoe and her mother, Kristina, watched, they saw one duckling fall through a storm sewer grate and pulled over to help.

Rolling tribute to 9/11 to visit Wisconsin for second time, at Celebrate Waupun

A rolling exhibit highlighting the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center will visit Waupun June 29 and 30, as part of Celebrate Waupun. The 911 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit is a tribute to the New York and New Jersey firefighters, police officers and port authority officers who lost their lives during the initial response when the towers fell.
