Fire damages home on Oak Street in Oconomowoc, cause under investigation

Firefighters on Wednesday morning, Jan. 15 were called out to the scene of a house fire near Elizabeth and Oak in Oconomowoc. The call came in around 1:20 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from the front and back of the home. The fire was discovered in the basement -- and extended to the first floor.

Fire causes estimated $250K in damage at Green Bay paper facility

A fire at a Green Bay paper converting facility caused an estimated quarter-of-a-million dollars in damage Tuesday night. At about 10 p.m., Green Bay Metro Firefighters were called to a fire at Sofidel America, 2200 Larsen Road. "Upon arrival crews found a large portion of the approximately 1,000,000 square foot warehouse heavily charged with smoke," reads a statement from Battalion Chief Tony Piontek.

One dead after Neillsville house fire

One person died after a fire broke out at a Neillsville house. Neillsville Fire Department says a neighbor called at 2:59 a.m. and the house was fully engulfed. The fire was put out in 20 minutes and nothing suspicious has been found at this point. A body was located and officials are working to remove it.

Oshkosh firefighters getting bulletproof vests

Members of the Oshkosh Fire Department might wear bulletproof vests to their calls. City Manager Mark Rohloff says the unfortunate reality is that firefighters and paramedics are regularly entering dangerous situations. He says around the same time Appleton firefighter Mitch Lundgaard was shot and killed on a medical call, the city was already buying 10 bulletproof vests for their ambulances.

Home is total loss after Jackson County fire

PHOTO: Crews were called to a house fire in Jackson County this afternoon. The home is considered a total loss. The fire was called in around 1:30 p.m. Monday near Fairchild about 100 yards south of highway 10. No one was home at the time and no one was injured. No other buildings were damaged.

One dead, two seriously injured in two-vehicle crash in Adams County

One person died and two people were seriously injured Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on Wisconsin 13, according to a Facebook post from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. Police said they received a report of a two-vehicle crash at 5:36 p.m. The following investigation revealed that a car with two occupants was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when it hit a truck that was attempting to enter Wisconsin 13 from Cottonville Avenue.

Lint buildup blamed in Fond du Lac apartment fire

A clothes dryer and a vent pipe were destroyed, but no one in an eight-unit apartment building in Fond du Lac was hurt by a fire Monday afternoon. Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue was called to the dryer fire at 27 Fountain Circle just after 3 o'clock. There was heavy smoke in the building. Firefighters determined an excess buildup of lint in the dryer vent caught fire.

Sprinkler system stops Appleton apartment fire

The Appleton Fire Department says a kitchen fire in an apartment building was stopped by the apartment's fire sprinkler system. The fire department was alerted to the fire on the 400-block of N. Richmond St. at 6 o'clock Monday morning by a water flow alarm from the sprinkler system. The fire started in a combination vent hood and microwave oven in the kitchen of a vacant apartment.

Garage fire displaces Madison family watching the Packers game

The Madison Fire Department is investigating the cause of a garage fire that displaced a family on Sunday night. The residents were at home watching the end of the Packers game when they heard a noise coming from the garage. One of the residents got up to investigate and found a fire in their garage with lots of flames and smoke.

Waushara County rescue teams practice response time in simulated snowmobile crash

Snowmobile safety was on the minds of a group of volunteers in Waushara County. The Metz Ridge Runners snowmobile club held a snowmobile crash simulation to help firefighters, the sheriff’s office and EMTs practice on the trails which helps them respond quicker if a real emergency happens. “You never know the situation that you’re going to be put in front of.

Dryer fire breaks out at Outagamie County Jail

A dryer fire broke out in the basement of the Outagamie County Administration Building on Walnut Street Saturday night. The Appleton Fire Department said it happened around 8 p.m. and when crews arrived to the fire, they found the basement and first floor filled with smoke. Smoke was traveling through the building through the elevator shaft.

Milwaukee Fire Department: 10 displaced by fire at apartment building

Ten people were displaced by a fire at an apartment building near 79th Street and Hampton Avenue Saturday, Jan. 11. It happened just after 3 p.m. Officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department said five adults and five children were displaced. No one was hurt. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire fairly quickly, officials said.

Adult dies in house fire in Harambee neighborhood of Milwaukee

An adult died in a house fire Thursday afternoon near Richards and Locust streets. The Milwaukee Fire Department said light smoke was showing when firefighters arrived. When they entered the second floor they found a kitchen fire. After searching the building, they found an adult deceased. That person has not been identified.

General manager charged with arson in Glendale Motel 6 fire

A 73-year-old Mequon man is accused of arson at the Motel 6 located in Glendale. The fire broke out in a maintenance closet on Dec. 17. Authorities believed the fire was intentionally started and took a suspect -- identified as the Motel 6 General Manager Edward Callison -- into custody. According to a criminal complaint, at 10:14 a.

Garage destroyed in Kaukauna fire

A garage is considered a total loss following a fire Wednesday night. According to the Kaukauna Fire Department, crews responded to the fire on 811 DeLanglade Street at 9:11 p.m. Firefighters who reported to the scene say the detached garage was engulfed in flames. The roof had also collapsed into the garage before they arrived, but the property owners were able to remove a vehicle and tractor beforehand.

Town of Freedom moves forward with plans to build new fire hall

The Town of Freedom will move forward with building a new Fire and EMS Department. The town clerk says 337 people voted in favor of building the new fire station, while 265 voted against it. Votes were cast at a special town board meeting Wednesday night. Before casting their vote, people had one last chance to view the plans for the $3.

Follow Up: Torch used for bathroom plumbing in Madison starts apartment fire

A torch that started an apartment fire caused $35,000 in damage Wednesday morning, officials said. According to an incident report from the Madison Fire Department, firefighters were sent to the 500 block of Northport Drive at around 9:30 a.m. after reports of a structure fire. Officials said maintenance workers were using a torch to work on bathroom plumbing and called 911 after seeing smoke within a wall.

Senate committee advances bill authored by Green Bay senator to regulate firefighting foam, rejects further limits on PFAS

Republicans in the state Senate advanced a bill Wednesday to restrict the use of firefighting foam containing certain PFAS compounds but rejected a Democratic proposal to expand regulation of the synthetic chemicals that have been found in drinking water throughout the state. Madison firefighters respond to structure fire on Northport Drive

Multiple crews with the Madison Fire Department are responding to a structure fire at 509 Northport Drive, according to Dane County Dispatch. Officials said the call came in at 9:32 a.m. One medic was dispatched to the scene, but injuries are unknown. Two ladder units and three engines were also dispatched to the fire.
