Beaver Dam Fire Department sets up 'bear hunt' for safe outdoor activity

Bear hunting season has arrived in Beaver Dam and no license is needed. Emergency responders in the Beaver Dam Fire Department have organized an effort to display bears, of the stuffed variety, around town to encourage families to safely enjoy the outdoors during the “stay-at-home” order aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus in Wisconsin.

Kenosha man charged with attempted arson, possession of molotov cocktail

Nathaniel Presterl, 19, of Kenosha, was charged Tuesday with attempted arson and possession of a molotov cocktail after he allegedly attempted to set a relative’s home on fire. Presterl was arrested at about 1 a.m. Tuesday outside a house on the 2800 block of 27th Street. Residents of the house called police after seeing him in the yard pulling burning material near the house.

South Beloit: Fire departments plan measures to protect staff in event of COVID-19 exposure

If you see a recreational vehicle (RV) at the South Beloit Fire Department, don’t worry—staff aren’t planning a vacation. The RV is the department’s extra unit to be used in the event of staff needing to be quarantined during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. South Beloit Fire Chief Mike Davenport said the department has yet to order any staff on quarantine, and said staff are taking extra precautions to disinfect and sanitize equipment.

Emergency personnel in Baraboo and Portage adjust for COVID-19

While emergency response is needed even in the face of a global pandemic, area personnel are working to ensure they’re protected from possible exposure to the deadly virus that is spreading throughout the country. Baraboo Police Chief Mark Schauf said Monday protocol dictates limited exposure to people unless his officers are responding to an emergency, which takes precedence over social distancing and screening for fevers.

Police investigate possible link between Stevens Point fire, car chase

Authorities are investigating whether a house fire and a car chase that occurred early Monday are connected. Emergency crews responded to a report of a structure fire near the 700 block of Smith Street around 6 a.m. Monday. During the incident, police officers noticed a suspicious vehicle near the property, according to the Stevens Point Police Department.

Reedsburg law enforcement, paramedics ready to respond in emergency in COVID-19 outbreak

While officers on the Reedsburg Police Department and paramedics with the Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service are taking necessarily precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic, they are ready to respond in an emergency. Reedsburg Area Ambulance Director and Emergency Management Director Josh Kowalke said dispatch is helping ambulance staff by screening people with a list of questions from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention anytime an ambulance is requested.

Follow Up: Neighbor Smelled Gas Before ‘Explosion,’ House Fire In Kenosha

Firefighters worked to put out flames at a house fire in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Sunday morning. Electrical wires could be heard popping, and bright lights flashed as crews fought the blaze. A person living near the house said there was an explosion, and right before that happened he smelled a gas leak outside the house near 79th and 30th.

House fire in Spring Brook Township leaves one dead

A house fire in Spring Brook Township Sunday afternoon left one person dead. The Dunn County 911 center received a call around 12:55p.m. on Sunday with reports of a house fire on County Road E. There were six people in the house when the fire started and five people made it out safely and are being treated for smoke inhalation.

Milwaukee's first coronavirus death takes Navy veteran, former Milwaukee firefighter

A former Milwaukee Firefighter and Navy veteran lost his battle with the coronavirus, after falling ill last week. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner said 66-year-old Lawrence Riley died this week after testing positive for the coronavirus. Family says he leaves behind his wife, six kids and eight grandchildren.

Janesville: Lloyd family proud of three generations of firefighters

Janesville firefighter Christopher “Chris” Lloyd rescued a woman stuck in an elevator a few years ago. The woman noticed the name on his jacket and asked if he was related to Gary Lloyd. Chris responded that Gary, a retired Janesville firefighter, is his father. The woman’s face lit up, and she told Chris that his father had saved her life.

Brown County: Area fire departments ask for donations of masks, gloves, protective gowns

Governor Tony Evers and state health officials gave an update to the COVID-19 epidemic on Friday. Andrea Palm, secretary designee at the Wisconsin Department of Public Health says the state will be getting a shipment of personal protective gear from the federal strategic stockpile, but it won’t be enough to protect all health care workers from the coronavirus if there is a surge in patients.

Grand Chute firefighters bring storytine into homes during COVID-19 crisis

The Grand Chute Fire Department, which regularly invites people into its station, is bringing the station to the people. Fire causes extensive damage to Fond du Lac duplex, cause under investigation

Firefighters on Thursday, March 19 responded to the scene of a duplex fire on Military Road near Arndt Street in Fond du Lac. The call came in shortly before 3 a.m. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions. The fire caused extensive damage to the two-story wood-frame duplex. The owner of the duplex told officials that no one is currently residing at the property.

A Mount Horeb man was found dead after a house fire Wednesday morning. The Mount Horeb Fire Department said the fire happened on the 500 block of Linda Road at about 11:40 a.m. Officials said the call came in as a structure fire, and firefighters later received a report of a man who was possibly trapped inside.

14 Green Bay first responders under quarantine after traveling as coronavirus spreads in Wisconsin

People in every industry are touched by this pandemic, including first responders.
