Firefighter designs Milwaukee Fire Dept. t-shirt honoring Hispanic culture

VIDEO: The Milwaukee Fire Department is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a new t-shirt. Carlos Velazquez-Sanchez, a veteran firefighter, has donned MFD uniforms and gear for more than a decade. This month, he’s wearing something new: a shirt he designed himself after seeing Chief Aaron Lipski’s display of other culturally-themed department tees.

Milwaukee Fire Prevention Week smoke alarm tests on city's north side

Milwaukee firefighters canvassed a neighborhood Thursday, Oct. 7, checking for working smoke alarms during Fire Prevention Week. Walking in the rain, firefighters with the Milwaukee Fire Department heard the faint chirp of an alarm’s battery dying and didn't waste any time working to fix it. "We just heard a chirp," firefighters said.

Ceremony to honor six Wisconsin firefighters, EMS personnel who died in the line of duty

Firefighters from across the state will travel to the Wisconsin State Firefighters and EMS Memorial on Saturday to honor six firefighters who died in the line of duty, including three who died from COVID-19. The 16th annual Final Alarm and Roll Call Ceremony will take place at 3:33 p.m. Saturday at the memorial in Ben Hansen Park, 2031 Second Ave.

A one-carrier fire and EMS provider is in the town of Merton's future, but for now things will remain the same

The Merton Town Board has agreed to extend its contract for fire and emergency medical services by six months with the privately operated Merton Community Fire Department. According to Merton Chairman Tim Klink, the contract extension will expire June 30. Klink said the goal for the town is to have a single-carrier system for fire and EMS at some point.

Onalaska Fire Department using National Fire Prevention Week to teach fire safety

VIDEO: Teaching kids about the importance of fire safety is one of the many jobs a firefighter does. For the City of Onalaska's Fire Department (OFD), any opportunity to give children a firefighter experience is welcome. October is National Fire Safety Month and Oct 3-9 is Fire Prevention Week. So this week OFD gave some preschoolers a tour of their fire station.

Madison firefighters rescue 1 person during fire at men's shelter

One person was rescued from a fire at a temporary men’s shelter Tuesday night, according to the Madison Fire Department. Firefighters responded to the blaze at 200 North First Street in Madison at about 10:12 p.m. The crew entered the building to investigate and found gray smoke in a room and a mattress inside that was on fire.

Milwaukee honors fallen firefighters; 141 who died in line of duty

Wisconsin Dells area fire department stress need for more firefighters

Both Wisconsin Dells area fire departments stress there is always room for more firefighters to assist when the pager goes off and firefighters must rush to the scene to assist those in need. Delton Fire Department currently has 27 out of 35 spots filled while Kilbourn Fire Department has 30 out of 36 spots filled on its roster.

Wisconsin State Patrol: Understand the importance of move over laws

Emergency responders face many dangers while working along our roads and highways. In 2020, 69 emergency responders were hurt and 2 were killed while responding to an emergency alongside the roadway. With the recent amount of injuries and fatalities, it is crucial that drivers understand the laws in place.

Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department breaks ground on station renovation

The Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department held a groundbreaking ceremony at Station 1 for their new renovation and addition on Tuesday. The project has been in the works since 2018. Federal judge sentences Menasha man for Neenah gas station arson

A Menasha man was sentenced to 7 years in prison for setting a gas station in Neenah on fire in January. The Ridgeway VP Phillips 66 station was heavily damaged by fire early in the morning on Friday, January 21 (see related story). Investigators determined cash, cigarettes and liquor were stolen before the fire was set.

Multiple departments respond to fire at Neenah Foundry

Waupun woman is charged with arson that could lead to 3+ years in jail

One woman from Fond du Lac County is facing charges of arson for the alleged destruction of a deer stand. If convicted, Patricia Lemasa could face a fine of at most $10,000, jail time up to 3 years and 6 months, or both. More than a dozen fire departments help put out industrial fire in Germantown

The Germantown Fire Department thanked 15 area fire departments for helping put out a blaze at an industrial building Monday, Oct. 4. Multiple patients were treated by EMS and fire personnel on the scene. A total of five people were treated for smoke inhalation, but they all refused transport. No fire personnel were injured.

Wagner Family Fire Fund distributes care bags to western Kenosha County departments to help those in need after a fire

Victims of a home fire themselves, a Salem Lakes family wants to make sure others have what they would need when they need it the most. Care bags for people who are displaced following a house fire were recently distributed to western Kenosha County fire departments by the Wagner Family Fire Fund, a new non-profit started by the family who lost their home to a fire in April 2020.

Milwaukee party bus arson, business owner seeks answers

A Milwaukee man is asking the community for help after losing his party bus business to an act of arson. Milwaukee police said they are investigating the arson and searching for the person or persons responsible, but the buses are a total loss. The owner, Ricky Grandberry, told FOX6 News he does not know who would do this to him.

Grand Chute Fire Department hosts poster contest for students
