No injuries in Onalaska fire

No one is hurt in a fire late Wednesday night in Onalaska. Chief Troy Gudie said firefighters were called to a home in the 800 block of Sand Lake Road just before midnight for a report of a fire on a deck that was spreading to a garage and inside of a home. Everyone inside the home including the family dog were able to safely escape unharmed.

Fire, EMS departments nearing crisis in Wisconsin as 911 calls rise, staffing declines

When flames tore through a Fort Atkinson warehouse in early August, fire departments from as far away as Illinois responded. Jefferson Fire Chief Ronald Wegner, president of the Jefferson County Fire Chiefs Association and whose department was one of many who responded that week, said that when a call for response went out–there just wasn’t enough people close by to go.

One person dead, ambulance flipped after multiple incidents in Marathon County

One person is dead and an ambulance flipped after multiple incidents in Marathon County. It started on Grand Avenue when a person was hit by a vehicle in Schofield. The Riverside Fire Department was transporting the person from the scene. The ambulance was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Scott Street and North First Street in Wausau and flipped over.

Twin Lakes EMT named First Responder of the Year for 61st District

Twin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Kristen Herreid has been named First Responder of the Year for the 61st Assembly District. State Rep. Samantha Kerkman, R-Salem Lakes, presented the award to Herreid. The EMT joined more than 70 other first responders at the State Capitol Wednesday to receive the award and be honored by the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Donation to Monona first responders could help kids in crisis situations

The Monona Police and Fire Departments now have a few extra resources to help them comfort children they encounter in crisis situations. Madison-based nonprofit REACH-A-Child donated 20 "REACH" bags to the departments. They're durable backpacks filled with children's books and drawstring bags. 13 will be put in squad cars and seven will be put in ambulances and fire trucks.

Man on work release for previous arson arrested for string of fires in Waukesha

A man serving time on work release for arson was arrested again in a string of fires that were spotted Monday by Waukesha bus drivers. Surveillance video shows a man placing something in a dumpster moments before it caught on fire Monday at the Waukesha Metro Transit Center. "Got a call from a driver who observed a dumpster on fire at the transit center," said Daniel Peterson, head of security for Waukesha Metro Transit.

Janesville house fire does $50,000 in damage, residents displaced

Janesville fire officials say more than a dozen firefighters from multiple departments responded to a house fire on S. Locust St. Monday afternoon. The call came in just before 3 p.m. Monday for a report of a garage fire. When crews got on scene, they found smoke coming out of the first floor of the two-floor home, not from the garage.

La Crosse Woman and dog trapped inside bedroom during an apartment fire

An early morning fire is a reminder to close your bedroom door at night. The La Crosse Fire Department responded to a house fire just after midnight this morning. A female was reported to be trapped inside her bedroom with her dog according to firefighters. The fire crew was able to extinguish the first floor fire, while the woman was held safely in her bedroom.

North Prairie firefighter dies, COVID contracted while on duty

A North Prairie firefighter has died in the line of duty after contracting COVID-19. Colleagues are remembering Gary Berg for his decades of dedication to the job. Berg joined the North Prairie Fire Department as soon as he could, his 18th birthday, and he never looked back. His fellow firefighters say they'll miss the man known for his humility and hard work.

Man sentenced to 38 years in prison for setting Waukesha woman on fire in random attack

A man found guilty of setting a woman on fire in Waukesha in September of 2020, was sentenced Monday, Oct. 25, 2021 to 38 years in prison with another 24 years of extended supervision. Authorities said it was a random attack. The victim, Amber Fuller, was walking her dogs when police say Joel Murn ran up to her and set her on fire.

Fire crews save woman, dog from LaCrosse house fire

Firefighters helped rescue a woman and her dog from a house fire early Monday morning. Crews responded to a call for a house on fire just after midnight. A person was reported to be trapped in a bedroom with their dog. Firefighters gained access to the first floor apartment on 615 South 7th St. First responders located the woman in a bedroom where she stayed as firefighters extinguished the flames on the first floor.

Rep. Dittrich honors Western Lakes fire chief as First Responder of the Year

State Rep. Barbara Dittrich, R-Oconomowoc, has named Western Lakes Fire District Chief Bradley Bowen as the First Responder of the Year for the 38th Assembly District. According to the press release issued by Dittrich’s office, Bowen devoted himself to combating the COVID-19 pandemic in an exemplary display of leadership, securing doses of the vaccine with little to no assistance from state agencies in order to inoculate first responders and members of the public across both Waukesha and Jefferson counties.

The Campbell Fire Department was teaching fire safety at Summit Elementary School Friday. Oregon Fire Department raises awareness of ‘National Move Over Day’

National Move Over Day, held Saturday, Oct. 17, was established to raise awareness for the safety of first responders, including tow operators, police, fire, medical and other emergency workers. Wisconsin law requires drivers to shift lanes or slow down in order to provide a "safety zone" for a squad car, ambulance, fire truck, tow truck, utility vehicle, or highway maintenance vehicle that is stopped on the side of a road with its warning lights flashing.

Fire forces evacuation of Mad Rooster Cafe in West Milwaukee

A fire broke out in the kitchen of the Mad Rooster Cafe in West Milwaukee on Wednesday, forcing evacuation of the restaurant. The Milwaukee Fire Department, which provides fire and emergency medical services for West Milwaukee, responded to the restaurant, 4401 W.
