Immersive virtual reality brings Colorado first responder training into the future

A new one-of-a-kind training center opened in Boulder, Colorado, to take virtual reality training for first responders to the next level.

Wisconsin firefighters found a creative new use for an old fire hose - it's the department's new training dummy

PHOTOS: The Oak Creek Fire Department has a new member named HOSE-A. Made out of old rubber fire hose, HOSE-A, named in part by the community, is a training dummy firefighters can use during drills for various scenarios. Firefighter Aaron Krukowski said many departments donate old fire hose to area zoos where it’s used to weave chairs and beds for animals or just hung in monkey exhibits.

Kentucky Disaster Was Nation's Deadliest Non-Tropical Flash Flood Since 1977

Fire & Rescue in Nevada closing station due to bat infestation

Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue (TMFR) announced Tuesday that one of their fire stations will be temporarily closed due to a bat infestation. Fire Station 30 located at 3905 Old Highway 395 will shut down for an undetermined amount of time. Bats have been found in the living quarters and apparatus bay of the fire station, causing a health and safety risk to fire crews.

Princeton University Graduate Students Continue Volunteer Fire Service Tradition

With degrees in chemical engineering, and graduate study at Princeton University’s Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics, Maximillian Nguyen thought that becoming a volunteer firefighter was out of his “normal wheelhouse.” But he considers himself “a resident of the town of Princeton and not just a University student,” so he decided to give back to the community in appreciation for enjoying what Princeton has to offer.

Michigan firefighter just retired to take a vital role with the MLB's Detroit Tigers

Canton firefighter Maureen Stoecklein has switched gear from public safety to professional sports as the Detroit Tigers nutrition coordinator. VIDEO: Man faces charges after crashing into South Dakota gas station

Sioux Falls police say a man is facing multiple charges after crashing a car into a gas station. Police spokesman Sam Clemens said around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, a man was driving south on Minnesota avenue and tried to turn left onto 41st street. The driver did not complete the turn but instead drove through a gas station parking lot, hitting a gas pump before hitting the front of the building.

Former Minnesota fire chief remembers Minneapolis bridge collapse on its 15th anniversary

911 calls from cellphones can be precisely pinpointed; One carrier won’t install the technology in Colorado

When a business owner and beloved member of Denver’s East Colfax neighborhood was shot outside her apartment late July 15, four calls to 911 — including the first one made — went to Aurora’s emergency operations center, most likely because the callers were using Verizon as their wireless carrier. Technology exists to more accurately route 911 calls from cellphones to the correct 911 communications center, but Verizon — one of the three major carriers in the United States — has refused to install it in Denver and other parts of the country.

Maine antique fire truck is still going strong after 100 years

PHOTOS: It has raced to fires, rolled through parades, is part of a museum and still works. One hundred years after “Old Engine One” first rolled into Caribou, the 1922 American LaFrance pumper is still the pride and joy of the city’s fire and EMS department. NTSB joins probe of Connecticut's ‘rare’ electric bus fire; only 18 verified incidents globally since 2010
