Georgia fire department to offer virtual fire inspections

Statesboro Fire Department has announced that beginning November 1, 2022 they will be offering “Virtual Fire Inspections” for certain types of fire safety inspections. The department says the program is intended to make fire inspections easier and more convenient for business owners and their employees.

Michigan firefighters get married after fighting warehouse fire

VIDEO: A joke over breakfast turned into a life-changing moment for two Lower Michigan firefighters. They were in Upper Michigan - hours from home - battling the Menominee warehouse fire. Joshua Halliday is a firefighter at the Frederic Fire Department near Grayling. His wife, Stephanie Halliday, is also a firefighter at the nearby Beaver Creek Fire Department.

Unvaccinated firefighters in Washington can return to work

Starting Nov. 1, firefighters who were let go from South King Fire and Rescue because of the state’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate will be allowed to come back to work. The agency’s board of directors voted unanimously during their Sept. 27 meeting to authorize Fire Chief Dave Mataftin to let unvaccinated firefighters return beginning Nov.

Year of negotiations leads to new, 4 year contract for firefighters in Texas

A year of preparations and negotiations has led to a new, four-year contract for firefighters with the City of Fort Worth. The Fort Worth City Council unanimously approved the agreement on Oct. 25 following 97.4% approval of the proposal by the 970 members of the association. The agreement is the fourth collectively bargained agreement between the city and firefighters, according to the Fort Worth Professional Firefighters Association.

New Illinois Law Requires Smoke Detectors With 10-Year Battery Life Or Hardwired Home Units

Hidrent app in Maine provides off duty firefighters more ways to help their community

From house fires to car accidents, firefighters are trained to respond to emergency situations. If we already trust these men and women in those moments, why not trust them with smaller jobs around the home? That’s the idea behind a new app called “Hidrent,” spelled a little differently. It’s a service that connects off duty firefighters with anyone in the area who needs a task completed.

Pennsylvania EMS gets new wearable carbon monoxide detectors after day care leak

For years, Allentown EMS has had carbon monoxide detectors available for crew, but only one detector per ambulance. After a significant number of carbon monoxide incidents last year, the city moved to get a wearable monitor for each full-time EMS employee. “We’ve had the meters, but we wanted to take it a step further, use them more,” said Mehmet Barzev, chief of EMS operations for the city of Allentown.

Massachusetts firefighter diagnosed with cancer following free screening

Worcester firefighter Ryan Kelley had a scab on his temple for two years that never really healed. He hadn’t done anything about it, when his whole truck decided to attend a free cancer screening held by DetecTogether and UMass Memorial Health at Polar Park last year. When doctors from UMass saw the scab, they told Kelley it looked like basal cell skin cancer.

Singer Jon Bon Jovi Thanks New Jersey First Responders at Annual Event Celebrating Community

The 7th Annual JBJ Soul Kitchen Chili Cook-Off highlighted eleven local first responder units including Fire, Police and EMT, and their chili, but the event was so much more – a celebration of community. Maryland volunteer fire department gets state-of-the-art airboat for rescues

PHOTO: Emergency crews on the upper Bay will soon be able to respond to those tricky shallow-water rescues more easily and safely. The all-volunteer Susquehanna Hose Company (SHCo) in Havre de Grace just announced they’re getting a state-of-the-art airboat. New initiative in Maryland set to protect first responders by marking unsafe vacant homes, buildings

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott along with the Baltimore City Fire Department, elected officials launched its Unsafe Vacant Marking Initiative Monday. The initiative will help first responders identify unsafe vacant homes, buildings, or structures when determining the structural integrity before entering by noting the secured 12x12 inch red square reflective signs on properties considered unsafe for anyone to enter.
