Drought-like conditions, series of fires, lead to immediate burning bans in southeastern Wisconsin

Drought-like conditions and a series of recent brush fires led local fire officials to declare an immediate ban on outside burning in municipalities in southeastern Wisconsin. The ban was ordered Monday morning, effective immediately, in the City of Kenosha, Village of Pleasant Prairie, the Village and Town of Somers, Town of Paris, Village of Salem Lakes and Town of Randall.

Stingray's Bar and Grill in Arbor Vitae Catches Fire

Fire early Monday morning destroyed an Arbor Vitae tavern that was originally built around a rail car. Arbor Vitae Fire Chief Mike Van Meter said they got the 9-1-1 call at 12:41 a.m. Upon the first unit’s arrival, the back of the Stingrays Bar and Grill was fully engulfed in flames, he said. Responding mutual aid units came from as far as Eagle River, which sent its ladder truck.

Green Bay Metro Fire Department creates buzz by rescuing bees, hive

Millions of bees on their way to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are safe after members of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department came to the aid of a company hauling them and their hives Saturday afternoon. Apartment fire in Madison displaces 14 people, causes $100,000 in damages

A fire broke out in a Moorland Road apartment complex on Saturday afternoon. According to a report, Madison firefighters saw smoke coming from the 40-unit building when they responded to the fire at 4:52 p.m. Residents reported that the fire was caused by unattended cooking grease. In total, fourteen people were displaced by the fire, including nine adults and five children.

1 person arrested in connection to fatal Fort Atkinson fire, Wisconsin DOJ says

The Wisconsin Department of Justice announced one person has been arrested in connection to a deadly fire Friday morning in Fort Atkinson. According to a news release, Fort Atkinson fire and police responded to a residential fire on Foster Street on late Friday morning. The release said firefighters were dealing with heavy fire conditions, and inside the house found a woman who had died.

No one injured following fire in Appleton

Authorities say no one was injured during an overnight house fire in Appleton Saturday. According to the Appleton Fire Department, crews were called to the 1300 block of W. Lawrence Street at around 2:30 a.m. for a report of a fire on the balcony of a home. When they arrived, crews found flames coming from the home on a second floor balcony.

Fitchburg stove fire displaces apartment resident, 2 dogs

A fire started in an apartment complex on Halite Way early Saturday morning. According to a report, Fitchburg firefighters arrived at 12:26 a.m and found that the fire was coming from an unattended pan on the stovetop in one of the five apartments. The resident said they had fallen asleep while warming the pan.

Barteck named Wausau fire chief

Robert Barteck has been appointed as the fire chief for the Wausau Fire Department. Barteck was appointed interim fire chief on April 2, after the retirement of Chief Tracey Kujawa. He joined the Wausau Fire Department in 2019 as a deputy chief. “We are thankful for a great internal candidate who is well-positioned to continue leading a best in class fire department for the City of Wausau,” said Police and Fire Commissioner Kathy Strasser.

Madison Fire Department: Dryer fire displaces family, kills multiple pets

Several pets were killed and a family was displaced by a dryer fire at a home on Madison’s southwest side Wednesday afternoon. Cigarette butts in metal can spark Kaukauna balcony fire

A metal coffee with discarded cigarette butts caught fire and caused damage at an apartment building in Kaukauna Thursday morning. At about 3:29 a.m., Kaukauna firefighters responded to 228 W. 12 Street for fire on a second story balcony. Crews were able to contain the fire to the balcony before it spread to apartments.

Semi fire closes right lane of I-94 in Jackson County

A fire in a semi trailer closed the right lane of I-94 early Wednesday morning in Jackson County. According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, troopers were called to a semi fire at 1:30 a.m. just east of Hixton. When the trooper arrived, the driver of the semi had been able to separate the tractor from the trailer, which was loaded with soda cans and fully engulfed in flames on the right shoulder.

First responder PTSD bill left out volunteers, some EMS workers; Fire departments in Racine, Dane counties weigh in

Earlier this year, Gov Tony Evers signed a bill allowing first responders to file for workers' compensation to seek treatment for mental injuries they suffer on the job, namely PTSD. It was hailed as a victory for first responders. However, those that are not full-time firefighters or police officers, including EMS workers not attached to a full-time fire department as well as volunteer firefighters, were not included in the final piece of legislation that was signed into law.

Appleton man meets first responders who saved his life after cardiac arrest

It was his wife's quick thinking and the preparedness of emergency responders that saved one Appleton man's life after he experienced sudden cardiac arrest in his home last year. 46-year-old Andrew Haskins was able to meet and thank the Gold Cross Ambulance and Appleton Fire Department personnel who saved his life at a gathering at Gold Cross Ambulance.

Boat fire on Pewaukee Lake, 2 on board

Two people were on board amid a massive boat fire on Pewaukee Lake Saturday, June 5. Firefighters had to use a boat launch to get out to the fire, and they could see the smoke all the way from the firehouse. As the thick, dark smoke billowed out from a boat on Pewaukee Lake, one of the firefighters out on the water was Captain Stephen Schultz.

Wisconsin father sets new pushup world record to raise money for family of fallen first responders

A Wisconsin father of three accomplished one of his greatest goals – completing 1,500,231 push-ups to set a new world record for most push-ups done in a year. The best part though? It was all to raise money for the families of fallen first responders. Nate Carroll on the 50-yard line of MetLife Stadium in New Jersey broke the record in front of first responders during half-time of the 48th Annual Fun City Bowl, an annual showdown between the New York’s fire and police football teams.

3 firefighters hurt while battling blaze in Valders woods

Three firefighters were treated for injuries while fighting a fire in some woods in Valders. Valders Fire and Rescue says the firefighters suffered “heat-related” injuries. They were treated at the scene. Crews were called to 12528 Rusch Road for a fire about 600 feet off the road. They called for mutual aid.

Six crews respond to La Crosse house fire

The La Crosse Fire Department worked to put out a house fire Sunday in La Crosse. Around 4 pm this afternoon 6 fire crews responded to 620 Car Street within about two minutes of being dispatched. Residents of the house were able to escape without injury before crews arrived and were trying to put the fire with a garden hose.

Officials: Woman dead after West Allis house fire

The West Allis Fire Department said a woman is dead after a fire broke out in a home near 56th and Rogers around 2 a.m. on Sunday, June 6. Fire officials say the fire started in a second floor bedroom. A woman become disoriented by smoke and became trapped in the home. She ultimately died, officials say.
