IAFC Fire and EMS National Emergency Safety and Survival Alert

The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), through their Safety, Health and Survival Section and in cooperation with the Emergency Responder Safety Institute, are urging all fire chiefs and officers to immediately issue a safety and survival alert in their departments. During an emergency safety and survival alert, personnel are urged to postpone non-emergency tasks to focus on critical safety and survival training.

Sign language conversation between boy, New Hampshire firefighter goes viral

California: Residents were hosting Super Bowl party when small plane crashed into home

VIDEO: Witnesses say the residents of one of the homes set ablaze in the plane crash in Yorba Linda were hosting a Super Bowl party at the time of the fatal wreck. The small plane lifted off from Fullerton Municipal Airport shortly after 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Authorities said the pilot flew the 1981 twin-engine Cessna 414A about 10 miles before he encountered some sort of mid-air issue.

Texas Firefighters’ Frustrations With Problem-Plagued Payroll System Boil Over

VIDEO: CBS 11 News has learned some of the big problems the city of Dallas is having with its payroll system. The president of the Dallas Fire Fighters Association, Jim McDade, said it’s hitting the city’s firefighters particularly hard. “We have a morale problem with the fire department and this is just an added kick to the head with these guys,” said McDade.

Firefighters battle massive fire at paper plant in New Jersey, closing some area schools

VIDEO: Firefighters continued their efforts through the day Thursday following a devastating fire that destroyed the Marcal Paper Mills facility in Elmwood Park. The fire broke out at about 5 p.m. Wednesday at the plant on Market Street and went to eight alarms. Huge paper rolls in the warehouse were fully engulfed in flames, and the roof collapsed.

New bill wants to record every EMS transport in Maine

Several police departments in Maine require recording devices on their officers and in their patrol cars. But what about videotaping the inside of an ambulance during a call? Topsham Fire Chief Chris McLaughlin says the camera in their ambulance has no recording device. He thinks that would violate a patient's privacy.

Son of deceased Washington man intubated for practice, settles

VIDEO: Brad Ginn Jr. is speaking publicly for the first time about the day Bellingham firefighters practiced intubation on his father's dead body. His father, Bradley Ginn Sr., died in a medic unit on his way to the hospital on July 31, 2018. When the hospital wouldn't accept his body, firefighters took him back to the Fire Department.

Arkansas bill pushes to give firefighters more sick leave while battling cancer

VIDEO: An Arkansas lawmaker has filed a bill that would give firefighters more sick leave when battling cancer. House Bill 1299 was introduced at the State Capitol on Wednesday by state Rep. Nicole Clowney, D-Fayetteville. The proposal comes after the death of Little Rock firefighter Nathaniel Crump, who in 2017 lost his fight against cancer.

Ohio union questions whether city will save money by laying off firefighters

Barberton may not save money by laying off firefighters and could end up paying more in firefighting costs because of overtime, the head of the city’s fire union says. “I don’t understand how layoffs are going to help the city because to keep services, that’s going to require a large amount of overtime,” International Association of Fire Fighters Local 329 President Rick Schwenning said Wednesday.

California: County supervisors endorse study of tax for fire services but balk at major overhaul

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors Tuesday directed a team of fire chiefs to push ahead with a plan for a possible countywide sales tax measure this fall to pay for more firefighters, equipment and stations. The board also authorized spending $1.6 million a year to help fund the county’s newest fire agency, to be formed from the consolidation of four existing departments that cover Santa Rosa’s outskirts and Windsor.
