Florida Firefighters Union calls for new fire stations, says they are 30 stations behind

VIDEO: The Hillsborough County Firefighters Union is calling for one new fire station per year until there are enough to keep up with the growth in the county. Travis Horn, with the union, spoke before county commissioners on Wednesday saying that only one new fire station in the past decade is not enough to meet increase demands.

Man Seriously Injured, Choked By 2 Off-Duty California Firefighters Awarded $7.4 Million

VIDEO: A man who was seriously injured by two off-duty Los Angeles firefighters who beat and choked him on Halloween night in 2015 has been awarded more than $7 million. After being falsely accused of giving children drug-laced candy, Samuel Chang was held down and choked. Cellphone video captured the firefighters and other party-goers harassing Chang and telling him he came to the wrong place to give out his candy.

Maryland governor pulls for firefighter pension, workers comp bills while at volunteer fire company

Gov. Larry Hogan stepped up his calls to the General Assembly to measures that would reduce the tax burden on public safety officials’ retirement benefits at a press conference at the Eastport Volunteer Fire Company Wednesday. Video: Firefighter rides crash victim’s motorized wheelchair to his nursing home in Oklahoma City

According to the fire department, a man on a motorized wheelchair was hit by a vehicle at about 12:30 p.m. near Northwest 23rd Street and Meridian Avenue. The man was taken to a hospital, and firefighters figured out a way to bring his wheelchair to the nearby nursing home, so it will be there when he returns.

Firefighter, retired police officer among 29 charged in New York drug bust

VIDEO: A Middletown firefighter and a retired Spring Valley police officer were among the dozens arrested as part of a sweep of allegedly drug dealing bikers in Orange County Tuesday. Authorities say more than 20 people were taken into custody when search warrants were executed at 15 locations in connection with two separate drug rings, with the same man -- fire Lieutenant Paul Young -- at the center of both.

Wisconsin firefighter takes his life; Fire Chief speaks on importance of mental health

VIDEO: On Friday, Platteville Fire Chief Ryan Simmons got a phone call he wasn't expecting. "It felt like a shock to us," Simmons said. Volunteer firefighter Tim Ebert died by suicide last week. "He was a student at UW-Platteville. So, between being a student working part time and being a volunteer on the Fire Department, he was a pretty busy guy," Simmons said.

A federal arbitrator says Hillsborough County was justified in firing a Fire Rescue medic who belonged to the Outlaws Motorcycle Club, noting the negative attention his membership brought the county. Clinton Neal Walker, 35, of Bradenton, was fired a year ago after an internal investigation concluded he had “unwavering loyalty” to the Outlaws, long considered the state’s dominant motorcycle gang.

Alabama city council mulls making Montgomery police and fire highest paid officers in state

With last year’s pay raises in effect, City Council members now want to know what it would take to make Montgomery’s public safety officers the highest paid in the state. For years, retention troubles have plagued the Montgomery Police Department and Montgomery Fire/Rescue. Despite high marks from outside groups on their performance, police lost around 60 officers last year, while firefighters had about 30 leave.

Alabama Fire Chief reveals cancer diagnosis

City Council to question Maryland fire department after truck catches fire and stations shut down

The Baltimore City Council plans to summon Fire Department leaders for hearings after an aging firetruck caught fire and amid warnings from the firefighters' union about the agency’s readiness to respond to emergencies.
