Indiana firefighters rescue mannequin head from icy Lake Monroe

PHOTOS: Several days of ice rescue training for Monroe Fire Protection District firefighters last week proved useful when a call came in about what appeared to be a person's head visible above the ice near the Lake Monroe spillway. Friday afternoon, firefighters from Station 21 were dispatched to the Lake Monroe spillway after receiving a report of a person’s head sticking out of the ice.

Average of new U.S. Coronavirus cases falls below delta peak

The seven-day average of new Coronavirus infections in the United States has fallen to a number not seen since the delta surge of last summer began to die down, though cases remain higher than during much of the pandemic. The country had an average of 153,029 cases per day as of Monday, according to tracking by The Washington Post.

Prank turned deadly: Remembering the North Carolina Campus Walk fire 20 years later

VIDEO: This week marks 20 years since a prank at a student apartment complex turned deadly in Greensboro. Janet Danahey, a UNCG student, set outside items on fire at a Campus Walk apartment. She said she was trying to get back at an ex-boyfriend. The fire spread to the entire building. Four people, sisters Rachel and Donna Llewellyn, Elizabeth Harris and Ryan Bek, died, and many others were injured.

Live flame thrower on Louisiana balcony a cause for alarm

Ohio fire department applicant pool may be most diverse in its history

With less than a week to go before it stops accepting applications, the Dayton Fire Department says it could have its most diverse pool of fire recruit applicants ever. Battle against fire over the weekend broke an Iowa community's water system

One man was rescued and more than a dozen residents were displaced after a large fire in Jersey City on Friday afternoon. Tennessee Firefighters Walk to State Capitol to Raise Awareness for Mental Health

U.S. COVID-19 cases, deaths declining; states begin to ease restrictions

COVID-19 cases have continued to subside throughout the United States, while deaths have also settled after increasing rapidly amid surges of infections brought on by the Omicron variant. Denny’s restaurant, Love's Truck stop in Indiana destroyed by large fire

VIDEO: Emergency crews worked to extinguish a large fire in Gary, Indiana. Firefighters responded to the 3100 block of Grant Street just before 11 a.m. for reports of a fire at the Denny’s restaurant and Love’s Truck stop. SkyCam 9 flew over the scene. New surveillance video shows firefighters preventing attempted carjacking of rescue truck in Florida

VIDEO: Fire truck & car collide in Illinois crash

While responding to an emergency on East John Street Wednesday morning, Champaign Fire Department’s Ladder 161 was involved in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Neil and Green streets. Police said a firefighter on Ladder 161 and the occupant of the second vehicle were both treated on scene and were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Looking back to 1972 when Wyoming grocery store was destroyed by a dramatic fire

PHOTOS: The new Westridge Commissary was a dramatic addition to Casper’s expanding edges when it opened in 1950. The new shopping center was the second operation opened by Commissary Inc., which operated what was likely Casper’s first modern full-service grocery store on 442 E. Yellowstone. By all accounts, the shopping center continued to stay busy with business as usual.
