Arkansas road crews clean up after fiery crash, Interstate reopens

VIDEO: Arkansas Department of Transportation crews took over 24 hours to clear all lanes along I-30 westbound after a fiery, fatal, multi-vehicle crash happened on Wednesday. There were 20 vehicles involved in the accident, which also included eight semi trucks. The accident happened near mile marker 86 along I-30 westbound and it resulted in three fatalities.

Texas Emergency Communications Center earns elite designation as Accredited Center of Excellence

Only a few short months since it was established, the Texas Emergency Communications Center, which serves as the 911 dispatch center for five volunteer fire departments in northern Harris County, has achieved a noteworthy milestone. The local emergency response service was designated as an Accredited Center of Excellence for emergency fire dispatching, one of only 64 agencies in the world to receive that distinction.

Ohio fire captain retires while fighting house fire

VIDEO: Captain Raymond Coci with Toledo Fire and Rescue went on his last call Thursday morning, leading crews to the intersection of Locust and East Bancroft streets for a fire at a duplex, less than two hours before his scheduled retirement. "Well, I was the first officer to arrive, so I had to take command, so I didn't get to go in immediately but as soon as the chief got here and took command I got to go in and do a little bit of firefighting," Coci said.

New FDNY disaster simulator dedicated to deputy chief who was killed on 9/11

VIDEO: The FDNY has a brand new way to train its members for some of the most complicated rescues. The simulator was dedicated Thursday to a beloved member of the department who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11. At first glance, the enormous pile of rubble looks like the latest disaster in New York City with the broken fuselage of a plane, crushed cars and piles of concrete, but the firefighters feverishly working the scene are training at the FDNY Fire Academy.

EMS Biosafety Transport Team in Georgia ready to handle monkeypox cases

VIDEO: There's a team dedicated and ready to transport any future patients suspected of having monkeypox, and any other communicable disease here in Atlanta. The Grady EMS Biosafety Transport Team has already safely transported one suspected case. As of Wednesday afternoon, there were 40 cases of monkeypox across the country, including one in metro Atlanta.

3 young teens arrested for torching historic homes in Georgia

VIDEOS: Three young teens were arrested Wednesday evening for the ""suspicious" fires that destroyed three historic buildings in Morrow over the weekend. A 15-year-old boy and two 14-year-old boys were taken into custody at their Clayton County home. All three were charged with arson, burglary, criminal interference with government property, criminal damage to property, and criminal trespass.

South Carolina firefighter creates own potentially lifesaving device

A Lowcountry firefighter’s initiative and construction skills have led her to create a new tool that could save lives. In 2021, the Burton Fire District responded to a 35% increase in motor vehicle collisions causing injury, and a 175% increase (4 to 11) in the number of trapped occupants that required rescue.

Fire engine that operated during South Dakota's 1972 flood on display

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A historical fire engine used in rescue efforts during the 1972 Black Hills Flood visited the Journey Museum on Wednesday. Engine 6 is an eight cylinder Detroit diesel with a manual transmission and a 500 gallon tank. During the night of June 8-9, 1972, Shift 1 — consisting of firefighters Brassfield, Tish, McGinnis, Nordstrom and Houska — manned the 1971 American LaFrance.

Close Call: Florida fire crew caught in the line of fire during deadly drive-by shooting

Members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department were caught in the line of fire during what they described as a deadly drive-by shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon on the Westside. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said two people are in custody after a man in a wheelchair was found shot and killed in a driveway off Barracuda Road.

Hawaii county reports helicopter crash with 6 passengers, two in serious condition

According to Hawaii County officials, a tourism helicopter reportedly crashed in a lava field near South Point on Wednesday. K&S Helicopters who operates Paradise Helicopters said the incident happened at about 5:29 p.m. while their aircraft, a Bell 407, was operating a tour. Preliminary information said that five passengers and one crew member were onboard.

Officials: 6 inmate firefighters suffer burns after crew vehicle catches fire in California

VIDEO: Six inmate firefighters were injured when a flash fire occurred in the back of their crew vehicle while working in the Castaic area Tuesday morning. The incident was reported about 11 a.m. near the Golden State Highway and Templin Highway, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “A flash fire occurred in the back of an inmate camp crew vehicle,” Fire Department officials said in a tweet hours after the incident.

New Jersey fire department welcomes its first professional female firefighter in its 139 year history

Today marks a milestone in the storied history of The Bloomfield Fire Department. Firefighter Stephanie Orgueira-Aponte began her career as the first professional female in the history of the 139-year-old department. FF Aponte recently completed a rigorous training curriculum at the Passaic County Fire Academy as well as EMT certification prior to today.

To delay future retirements of police and firefighters, Maryland county will renew incentive to extend careers

Baltimore County has approved restarting a program to incentivize police, firefighters and paramedics to delay future retirements and extend their careers. The benefits incentive, known as a Deferred Retirement Option Program, won’t have an immediate effect in curbing departures from public safety agencies, as the change applies to hires made after July of 2007, who aren’t eligible for retirement until 25 or 30 years of service.

VIDEO: Apartment fire spreads to neighboring home in Florida

An apartment fire that destroyed a six-unit complex on Beach Avenue in Atlantic Beach early Tuesday morning spread to a home that was just 5 feet away, causing severe damage to that home also, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said. JFRD spokesman Capt. Eric Prosswimmer said thankfully no injuries were reported in the multi-unit apartment fire.

Remote-control nozzle helped Nebraska firefighters battle three-alarm blaze

Wisconsin sees alarming number of residential fire deaths

Hawaii fire department welcomes 9 new fire trucks with Hawaiian names honoring ali'i and the places they’ll serve

In an expansion of their fleet, the Honolulu Fire Department now has nine new trucks. HFD held a Hawaiian blessing at ‘Iolani Palace for the trucks, each given Hawaiian names. The names are significant because they honor King Kamehameha III, who established HFD in 1851. ”The apparatus being blessed are given inoa Hawaii, honoring HFD’s rich history, service of our ali’i, Kauikeaouli and Kalakaua — service of those past and present, and to highlight the unique places across Oahu.
