Utah fire station upgrades ambulances with latest technology

American Heart Association hosts more CPR training for minorities in Tennessee

The American Heart Association hosted dozens of CPR trainings throughout February's Heart Month with a focus on training those in minority communities. This focus has been years in the works for the American Heart Association (AHA). American College of Cardiology recently found that Black and Hispanic individuals were 41% less likely than white individuals to receive CPR when suffering cardiac arrest in public and 26% less likely to receive CPR when the cardiac arrest occurred at home.

Norfolk Southern Railway company giving Ohio firefighters over $800,000 for train derailment response

Norfolk Southern announced Friday that they are donating over $1 million combined to the East Palestine school district and fire department. According to the press release, a $300,000 donation will be given to the East Palestine City School District, while $825,000 will be given to the Village of East Palestine Fire Department.

Dr. Leonard Cobb, co-founder of Washington's first Medic One, dies at 96

It’s difficult to pinpoint how Dr. Leonard Cobb came up with the idea to train firefighters in emergency medical care, but friends and family believe one particular afternoon more than 60 years ago played a role. Cobb and his wife, Else, had stopped at a market in Seattle’s Madrona neighborhood for a frozen snack when they noticed a man slumped over in a nearby car.

Busted Plug on the move: See South Carolina’s iconic 40-foot fire hydrant being carried away

VIDEO/PHOTOS: It’s not every day you see a 40-foot fire hydrant carried down the streets of downtown Columbia — or anywhere, for that matter. The “Busted Plug” sculpture, an iconic piece of public art by artist Blue Sky, was moved from its longtime home on Taylor Street on Thursday. FDNY could charge around $1.4K for ambulance rides with new price hike proposal

The FDNY is proposing to raise the price of an ambulance ride by over 50 percent. The cost of a ride, that is called through 911, would go up from $900 to nearly $1,400. There would also be an increase in charges per mile to the hospital from $15 to $20. The department says the hike is needed because of inflation, as well as a pay bump for EMS workers.

Bill advances to let New Mexico firefighters use medical cannabis off-duty

A bill to make it easier for New Mexico firefighters to legally use medical marijuana got off to a hot start Friday. House Bill 292 would narrow the definition of “safety-sensitive position” in the Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act, which governs the state’s medical cannabis program. As proposed, the definition would only include employees who are required to carry a firearm or operate a vehicle with a commercial driver’s license and “whose performance under the influence of drugs or alcohol would constitute an immediate or direct threat of injury or death to the person or another.

Guns ‘N Hoses boxing event in Missouri raised $1M for first responder nonprofit

Flames engulf abandoned California warehouse

VIDEOS: A fire Tuesday afternoon completely burned an abandoned warehouse to the ground. The Stockton Fire Department said the wind-driven fire was reported at 4:54 p.m. on Lindsay and Stockton streets. The fire went three-alarm, which means that a larger response of firefighters was required to extinguish the fire.

New legislation in West Virginia could help retain volunteer firefighters with free vehicle registrations

West Virginia is considering a new bill, House Bill 2191, to provide free motor vehicle registrations and license plates to volunteer firefighters with at least five years of service. The bill was introduced by Delegate Burkhammer on January 11, 2023, and has been referred to the Committee on Fire Departments and Emergency Medical Services and then Finance.
