VIDEO: Officials say massive fire at New York ambulance depot not suspicious

Officials said Sunday that a five-alarm fire that ripped through an ambulance depot in Freeport was not considered suspicious. The massive fire broke out Saturday at an ambulance service building on Commercial Street and left a shell of structures and damages. Video captured plumes of black smoke billowing into the air.

Fiery derailments renew Americans' focus on railroad safety

Americans are renewing their focus on railroad safety after a string of recent derailments, especially two fiery ones involving hazardous chemicals in Ohio and Minnesota that prompted evacuations. Federal regulators and members of Congress are urging railroads to do more to prevent derailments. They want standards for the trackside detectors used to help identify equipment problems, more notice to states about hazardous chemicals they are hauling, and at least two people at the helm of freight trains.

Texas fire department celebrates 150 years of peril and progress

Dramatic video captured the moment two Orange County firefighters narrowly escaped getting crushed by a flaming storefront that suddenly collapsed. Railroad reimbursing fire departments for damages and losses suffered in Ohio train derailment

At least one local fire department received reimbursement from Norfolk Southern for damages and losses suffered in the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. Gov. Josh Shapiro announced Thursday that Norfolk Southern has completed its first $1 million in reimbursements to Pennsylvania fire departments, first responders and Beaver County Hazmat.

Can you pull 40,000 pounds of fire truck? South Carolina firefighters will this weekend

PHOTOS: As some already know, The Great Sacandaga Lake is a manmade lake, but do you know why it was made? Its purpose began in 1913 when the country's second deadliest flood took thousands of lives across 15 states, and left a quarter of a million homeless. While the flood led to great losses, it also led to the creation of the Sacandaga Lake, (which provides a runoff area for any excess water in the Hudson River, preventing flooding) among other societal advances.

Over 50,000 hoverboards recalled due to fire hazard, two deaths reported

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Jetson Electric Bikes recalled their 42-Volt Rogue Self-Balancing Scoots/Hoverboards due to fire hazards that resulted in the deaths of two Pennsylvania girls. A 10-year-old girl and her 15-year-old sister died from a fire on April 1, 2022, in Hellertown, Pennsylvania.

VIDEO: Massive fire breaks out at vacant Detroit apartment building

Fire crews battled a blaze at an apartment building early Thursday morning on Detroit’s west side. A large, vacant apartment building caught fire in a residential neighborhood in the area of I-94 and Livernois on March 30. The entire building, which is multiple stories high, was fully engulfed in flames as crews worked to extinguish it.

First Black female fire chief to serve in New England sworn in

History was made in Connecticut Wednesday as state leaders and neighbors gathered in Hartford to celebrate Shelly Carter, the first Black female fire chief to serve any fire department in all of New England. “The goal is not about me. We celebrate me, but this is for every female out there, every female on the line who’s working today," said Carter, who was sworn in as the Southbury Training School Fire Department Fire Chief under the state's Department of Developmental Services.

Train derailment, fire causes evacuation in western Minnesota town

VIDEOS: An early morning train derailment has caused residents of a small town in Kandiyohi County to evacuate on Thursday. In a statement, BNSF Railway said approximately 22 cars derailed around 1 a.m. Some of the derailed cars were carrying ethanol and corn syrup and started on fire, the sheriff's office said.

Collectors in Arkansas hope to spark desire for firefighting with museum

'Eyes of Fire': ER doctor and photographer captures Illinois fire department for 20 years and counting

PHOTOS: While some doctors play golf or tennis on their days off, one local emergency room physician spends his free time riding along with the Peoria Fire Department with his camera. Dr. Elsburgh Clarke is an ER doctor at Hopedale Medical Complex. He’s been working in emergency medicine for more than 40 years and previously trained at LA County Hospital, where he began taking photographs.

Missouri firefighter ensures special needs kids are enrolled in the ‘STARS’ program

VIDEO: Zach Krato is a Florissant Valley Fire District firefighter, husband, and dad who has spent over a decade serving as a first responder. Zach receives the FOX 2 Proud to Serve award in March 2023, including $500 from Brown & Brown Law Firm. VIDEO: Firefighters battle large house fire in New York

A Soundview house fire has left multiple families without a home overnight, officials say. Firefighters responded to the house fire on Rosedale Avenue at around 11 p.m. Monday. The owners of the home lived there since 2017 and included three brothers and their parents who lived on the second floor and another family downstairs who rented the space.
