Wisconsin firefighter breaks world record for marathon time carrying 100-pound rucksack

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Cory Asimus struggled to get to the finish line Sunday but giving up was never even a thought. The 33-year-old Freedom resident and Appleton firefighter was not only chasing a world record, he was also raising money and awareness for Project Vaspire 316, a cause he cares deeply about. Asimus finished the Community First Fox Cities Marathon Presented by Miron Construction in an unofficial time of 4 hours, 53 minutes, 7 seconds.

A Utah family is grateful to be alive after their houseboat caught fire at Lake Powell. Maddy Tolman said her family was on board for only about 45 minutes when they heard a loud boom. “We heard a big boom! Not knowing what it was, we went to investigate. We found the motor on the houseboat had exploded, and caught on fire,” Tolman said.

Colorado city hosting 3,800 honored guests at Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial ceremony

Thousands of people are en route to Colorado Springs for this weekend’s annual Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial ceremony. ”It's the largest year we've ever had,” said Colorado Springs Firefighters Local 5 President, Curt Crumb. This year 572 names will be added to the walls of the memorial. Due to COVID-caused cancellations from previous years, names this year are a combination of 2021 and 2022.

Suspect in Oregon steals Portland Fire & Rescue boat, escapes down river

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A suspect stole a Portland Fire & Rescue boat and commandeered it down the Columbia River early Thursday morning, says the agency. PF&R stated that Rescue Boat 21 was taken from the boathouse by an unauthorized user. Local law enforcement and the Coast Guard pursued it. PF&R said the boat traveled downstream.

FEMA funding study to help firefighters prevent injuries

Bridget Melton, Ed.D., professor in the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology at Georgia Southern University, is part of a team awarded $1.1 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist with a study aimed to promote wellness in firefighters and first responders. Melton is collaborating with researchers at the University of Kentucky as part of a three-year study that builds on a decade of foundational work by Melton and the Tactical Athlete Initiative team in the Waters College of Health Professions, College of Education and the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health.

New safety legislation announced on 5-year-anniversary of Massachusetts gas explosions

Fire department searching for person of interest in series of fires in California neighborhood

Fire academy in Texas unveils antique helmet collection at 9/11 ceremony

Tiny, bug-like robot created by university engineers in Colorado has potential to aid first responders

PHOTOS: A little bug-inspired robot created by a team of engineers at the University of Colorado Boulder has the potential to someday aid first responders during disasters. The robot’s name is CLARI, which stands for Compliant Legged Articulated Robotic Insect. It was built in the image of a bug. It’s tiny, squishable and can shape-shift to fit through different gaps.

Foam 331: First Responder to the Nation’s Worst Aviation Crisis

PHOTOS: At 9:37 am Eastern Time on September 11, 2001, two fire captains—Michael Defina and John Durrer—from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Fire & Rescue Department, based at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, were standing on the departures level of the main terminal. They were responding to a minor vehicle accident, but their attention quickly turned toward a low rumble, followed by smoke rising to the northwest.

VIDEO: Stolen vehicle crashes into New York home, causing massive explosion

A house on West Elm Street in the City of Oneida was destroyed early Saturday morning by an explosion caused by a stolen vehicle crashing into the home. There were no injuries to homeowners, neighbors or emergency crews. Oneida Mayor Helen Acker posted on Facebook “there were no fatalities.” Police say the crash, which happened around 3:00am, severed the gas line into the house.
