North Carolina firefighter collapses during workout, later dies at hospital

A firefighter with Alexis Fire Department went out for a jog while on duty Thursday morning but never made it back to the fire station. "He was an outstanding person, great guy to be around and he loved the fire service and everything it stood for," said Lt. Robert Drew of Alexis Fire Department. According to officials, firefighter Joshua Warren had just returned from a medical call when he took part in a physical fitness training at East Lincoln Middle School.

Georgia fire officers named in wrongful death suit filed over retirement home fire

Columbia County and several fire and rescue employees have been named in a $15 million wrongful death lawsuit over the fatal fire at the Marshall Square retirement community last year. New Hampshire Firefighter Dies from Apparent Heart Attack Hours After Training

The town is mourning the death of firefighter/EMT Doug Clement, the son of a former fire chief. Clement, 44, died of an apparent heart attack, said Town Administrator Barbara Lucas. “It is with great sadness that the town of New Hampton announces the line-of-duty death of Firefighter/A-EMT Douglas Clement,” the town said in a news release.

Ohio fire chief disciplined for abuse of authority

Lebanon Fire Chief Perry Gerome is working under an ultimatum issued by the city manager after calling on-duty fire crews and equipment to his home to help celebrate his wife’s 50th birthday by pretending the house was on fire. Man found incompetent to stand trial in Michigan firefighter's death

The trial of a Lansing man accused of striking and killing a firefighter last year is delayed indefinitely, after a judge ruled Wednesday that he is incompetent to stand trial. Grant Taylor, 23, is facing murder and other charges in the death of 35-year-old Dennis Rodeman, who was killed in September while he and other firefighters were collecting donations for charity near the intersection of Cedar Street and Jolly Road.

Cleveland firefighter fired over paying to trade shifts says city racially discriminated against him

A Cleveland firefighter who lost his job after pleading guilty to paying co-workers to cover his shifts is suing the city to get his position back, arguing that his race was a factor in his firing. Hawaii firefighter critically injured in training accident

A firefighter was critically injured Tuesday in a rough water training accident off Diamond Head. A second firefighter was taken to the hospital for evaluation, and was subsequently released. The two were apparently training on Jet Skis in rough surf and police sources say they were knocked down by a large wave.

The EMTs who were apparently caught live-streaming their choice to stay on a fast food drive-thru line while calls for emergency service were coming in have resigned, as a hospital investigation into the incident continues. U.S. fire chief dies in 10-story fall in Turkey

An American national working at Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey died Monday after falling from the roof of his apartment building as he attempted to enter using a 10th floor window, Turkey's state-run news agency reported. Thaddeus Borowicz, 61, of Traverse City, Michigan, died after tying an electrical cable to a chimney to access his apartment using an open window, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Draft study of Tulsa fire department, EMSA advises decreased fire response to some medical calls

An independent study of the Tulsa Fire Department is recommending several efficiency changes at the department, including reductions in response to both fires and medical calls. City officials received a draft version of a study this week, looking primarily at Tulsa Fire Department operations but also at the department’s relationship with EMSA on medical responses.
