Large investments made in Illinois to research cancer in firefighters

City in Maryland targeting EMS staff shortage with cash bonuses

The Baltimore City spending board approved a new program Wednesday aimed at solving the city's emergency medical services shortage. Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace said the city is down 80 EMS providers, and that number has increased. In June, firefighters union Local 734 president Matthew Coster said there were 74 vacancies.

Fire truck crashes in Illinois, no serious injuries reported

VIDEO: Three Belleville firefighters were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after their fire truck was involved in a crash and flipped onto its side. It all happened at Route 161 and Carlyle Avenue, right by Belleville East High School. The good news is that nobody was seriously hurt. The bad news is that there is significant damage to both the fire truck and the Toyota 4Runner, which was also involved in the crash.

Coast Guard previews public hearing on deadly 2023 cargo ship fire in New Jersey

Florida fire department tells its story through upcoming documentary series

Storm causes damage to volunteer fire station in Louisiana

One Firefighter from Niagara Falls is spending his winter training to take on the World’s Strongest Firefighter competition in March. VIDEO: Tanker fire in New Jersey destroys used car dealership, disrupts traffic

A tanker truck overturned on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, erupting into a ball of flames. It happened around 5:40 a.m. Monday on Route 17 South not far from Teterboro Airport. The tanker and another car got into a crash, but amazingly, both drivers were able to escape their vehicles. The tanker plowed into a used car dealership, causing it to catch fire.

City in Pennsylvania moves forward with consolidation of six fire companies

Fire erupts at Florida fire station, investigation underway

A fire broke out at one of the fire stations in West Palm Beach Saturday morning. According to a spokesperson with the West Palm Beach Fire Department (WPBFD), the fire occurred in one of the fire rescue ambulance trucks at around 4:30 a.m. at West Palm Beach Fire Station no. 4. Firefighters were asleep in the station and were alerted to the blaze when the fire alarms went off.

New York subway train derailment causes 'severe' service disruption

VIDEO: Thursday's subway train derailment on the Upper West Side is causing major delays for the 1, 2, and 3 train lines, according to the MTA. Tennessee firefighter who fought PTSD inspires law that gives other service members a new pathway to treatment

Firefighting is a strenuous and stressful job. The post-traumatic stress disorder rate among firefighters is estimated to be higher than the rate in the military. As of Jan. 1, there is a state law in Tennessee that can help firefighters get better while still getting paid. The James "Dustin" Samples Act honors Samples, a Cleveland, Tennessee firefighter who bravely fought PTSD on the job.
