Liquid Oxygen Spill Closes ER, Postponing Surgeries at California Hospital

A liquid oxygen spill Monday prompted closure of the emergency room at Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital and the postponement of surgeries, but no injuries were reported. Firefighters were sent to the facility at 4650 Lincoln Blvd. about 8:40 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. "The liquid oxygen spill originated from a sheared pipe on a 2,000- gallon tank," said Margaret Stewart of the LAFD.

City leaders are accused of failing to stop racial discrimination at the Lansing Fire Department after an African-American firefighter found a banana on the windshield of his assigned truck, according to allegations listed in a federal court case. The Payson Town Council refused to commit to a merger between the Payson, Hellsgate and Houston-Mesa fire departments Thursday, saying they need more time. The council asked staff to explore a different model for the merger, conduct further financial analysis and look into how much control Payson would have if the merger went forward.

Quapaw Nation becomes first tribal member to join Oklahoma firefighters association

History was made this month by the Quapaw Nation Fire/EMS Department when it officially became the first tribal department to be accepted into the Oklahoma State Firefighters' Association that represents thousands of state and volunteer firefighters.
