The wake-up call came Feb. 3 in eastern Ohio. A Norfolk Southern freight train rumbling through the village of East Palestine jumped the track. Damaged tank cars spewed toxic chemicals into the air and water. A massive fire lit up the sky. More chemicals were burned days later. Polluted runoff flowed into waterways.

City in Oklahoma to waive utility charges for surviving spouses of first responders killed in line of duty

Edmond will now waive utility charges for the surviving spouses of first responders killed in the line of duty. The City Council just made the vote on Monday night. App provides mental health resources to first responders in Nevada

VIDEO: Boat bursts into flames at Florida marina

Authorities responded to a boat fire at a marina in Coconut Grove Friday night. Recently departed fire chief in Illinois was investigated for harassment

Prior to his sudden resignation last week, former Champaign fire Chief Gary Ludwig was investigated for harassment allegations made by his employees, largely involving “inappropriate statements about women or sexually explicit content.” According to documents obtained by The News-Gazette in a Freedom of Information Act request, City Manager Dorothy David conducted nine interviews between June 27 and July 5 with two victims/complainants and six witnesses concerning Ludwig, and interviewed Ludwig on July 6.

Increase in fires caused by arson in one Nevada city

VIDEO: There have been eight arson arrests already this year, and 30 fires that the Reno Fire Department said were arson. Generally, Reno Fire Department Fire Investigators arrest 10 to 13 people total for arson in a year, but with July only being a little over halfway into this year, there is cause for concern.

Explosions seen as large fire burns at propane business in Arizona

VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Phoenix Fire investigators are looking into a fire involving exploding propane tanks during the afternoon hours of July 20. The fire happened near 40th Street and Van Buren. According to Phoenix Fire officials, crews were called to the scene at around 5:00 p.m., and when they arrived at the scene, they found a large propane yard with five gallon propane tanks exploding over 500 yards in all directions.

Man accused of starting fire that killed Texas firefighter in 2017 sentenced to 30 years in plea agreement

VIDEO: Emond Johnson, who was charged with starting a fire that killed San Antonio firefighter Scott Deem in 2017, was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison on two charges. Johnson pleaded no contest in the 186th District Court to charges of murder and arson. EMT stabbed by man in ambulance outside hospital in New York

VIDEO: A man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed an EMT Wednesday night in Manhattan. Officials say 48-year-old Rudy Garcia was picked up at 94th Street and Amsterdam at around 8:50 p.m., after a call about cardiac arrest. The ambulance was on 59th Street when Garcia allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the EMT multiple times in the abdomen and leg, officials said.

New Team USA baseball player is battling fires in Texas as her day job

7 more heat-related deaths confirmed in Arizona, California

‘It changes you’: North Dakota fire chief describes his team’s lifesaving actions during shooting

Fire department in Washington joins peer support program aimed at reducing stigma around mental health care

Tumwater Fire Chief Brian Hurley is joining a countywide mission to show it’s OK for firefighters, EMTs and other frontline workers to talk about their mental health. It’s being done through the Peer Support Program, a confidential opportunity to debrief with colleagues. Hurley and Rian Winter, lead of the Peer Support Group and EMS lieutenant, gave a presentation to the Tumwater Public Health and Safety Committee on July 11.
