Georgia firefighters bring joy to young patients with heartwarming hospital descent

VIDEO: It was quite a surprise for young patients at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta on Friday. When they looked out their windows, they saw firefighters waving at them. Sandy Springs firefighters came up with the plan. Rappel off the top of the hospital and spread a little joy on their way down. As they lowered themselves, they stopped and waved to patients on the other side of the glass.

VIDEO: Driver escapes fuel truck explosion, inferno on Florida's Turnpike

A fuel tanker truck crashed, exploded, and erupted in flames on Florida's Turnpike in west Boynton Beach on Friday morning, shutting down all lanes of the highway and causing major traffic backups for miles. Georgia highway reopened after crash involving fire truck

VIDEO: All lanes of Highway 41 at Minter Road are open again after being closed for hours by a crash involving a Spalding County fire engine and a utility truck Thursday afternoon, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety. The crash occurred at 1:55 p.m. on Highway 41 northbound just south of Minter Road, the department said.

VIDEO: 7 injured, including child and first responders, in Pennsylvania rowhome fire

Firefighters responded to a rowhome fire in Northeast Philadelphia on Thursday morning. The fire started at about 8 a.m. at a home on the 6300 block of Cardiff Street. When crews arrived, heavy smoke was pouring out of the two-story home and flames were seen at the back of the house. Initial calls were that someone was trapped inside the home, so firefighters made entry on the second floor.

Drones offer a new dimension of public safety for Colorado firefighters

VIDEO: Three major structure fire responses in just four days got support from the Colorado Springs Fire Department’s new Special Operations Division. Bystanders, firefighters rescue 3 from sailboat stuck off shore in Massachusetts

Arson investigators are looking into the cause of a massive fire that tore through a home in Point Loma early Tuesday, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Brian Raines. FDNY Firefighter returns to work over 1 year after being injured in deadly fire

VIDEO: An FDNY firefighter who spent over a year recovering from injuries he suffered fighting a house fire returned to work Monday. Robert Velazquez was greeted as he walked back into Engine 257, Ladder 170 in Canarsie, Brooklyn. In a Facebook post, the FDNY said in part, "With the support of his family, friends, and his FDNY family, and through sheer determination and grit, Firefighter Velazquez is back at his second home, his firehouse.

Emergency legislation allows retired firefighters, police officers to work for Washington, D.C. 911 call center

The D.C. Council unanimously passed emergency legislation Tuesday that could help solve an ongoing staffing shortage at the 911 call center. The bill, which had nine cosponsors, allows retired firefighters and police officers to work as call takers and dispatchers without losing any pay from their pensions.

1915 fire engine completes journey back to New Mexico

PHOTOS: A century-old fire engine once in the service of Las Cruces firefighters completed a long journey this week from a salvage yard, to a local home, all the way to Oregon and back again. It was briefly parked, looking shiny and new, in front of Las Cruces City Hall Monday, as LCFD Chief Jason Smith celebrated its donation back to the city at the regular city council meeting.

Completed Charleston 9 Memorial in South Carolina honors the fallen

Nashville Fire Department's HazMat team gets a new, 'first-of-its-kind' credential

The Nashville Fire Department is now credentialed as a State Type 1 Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and high yield explosives (CBRNE) team. It took them over 5 years to get the designation. What does this mean? This designation acknowledges the Nashville Fire Department's ability to handle hazardous materials and dangerous situations involving CBRNE.
