Massachusetts fire department celebrates night of historic promotions

The current and former fire chiefs, with a combined 30 years at the helm, stood proudly Wednesday at the selectmen's meeting for an unprecedented night they'd long awaited: the appointment of five captains to the 31-member department. 12 off-duty firefighters hurt in Las Vegas rampage, union says

Union officials say 12 off-duty firefighters were shot while attending a country music festival in Las Vegas, including two who were wounded while administering CPR to gunshot victims. Army vet is Texas city's first female battalion chief

An Army veteran who has spent the past 24 years as an Austin firefighter is now the city’s first female fire battalion chief, officials announced Monday. Rebecca Ackerman, who is one of 73 women — including Austin Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr — among 1,007 employees in the Austin Fire Department, was promoted to battalion chief after serving as captain in the communications section.

Virginia councilman says city is addressing firefighter shortage after union's Facebook post

Deputy Fire Chief Details Las Vegas Shooter Response

Three former chiefs arrested in investigation of Florida fire department

Three former chiefs of the defunct Hernando Beach Volunteer Fire Department, including current Brooksville Chief David Freda, were arrested Friday, each was charged with one count of organized fraud. Idaho fire engine stuck in sinkhole after water main break

PHOTO - Roads remain blocked on the Boise State campus Tuesday morning after a water main break caused flooding and sent a fire engine into a sinkhole. The water line that ruptured Monday evening ran under University Drive near the Student Union Building. Man charged with scuffling with police during Pennsylvania fire

A New York man who pushed past firefighters to remove a package from a burning building is facing aggravated assault charges after getting into a scuffle with police, according to court documents. Oklahoma volunteer firefighters quit amid disagreement with board

California Fire Dept. SUV, ambulance, car all collide in intersection

PHOTO - Two emergency response vehicles collided with a car at Florida Street and Sonoma Boulevard on Saturday morning, sending the first-responders on board to the hospital and closing the intersection for an investigation, a spokesperson for the fire department said. 'America Burning' Report Commissioner Amabili Dies

One of the foremost authorities on fire prevention, and the author of the "America Burning" Report passed away Thursday. Louis J. Amabili, 88, began his fire service career when he joined the Hockessin, DE, Fire Company in 1947. In 1970, President Richard Nixon appointed Amabili to to serve on the National Commission for Fire Prevention and Control.

Connecticut Fire Department Wins $11 Million Federal Grant

The badly understaffed Hartford Fire Department received some good news Thursday in the form of an $11 million federal grant. The grant will be used to hire 70 new firefighters over the next three years and help the department offset a 110 member shortage and an ongoing exodus of more than 60 experienced firefighters by the end of the year.
