Pennsylvania firefighters open time capsule with items from 1916 and 1967

PHOTOS: Firefighters in Newtown Square staged their own sequel to the movie “National Treasure” recently as they retrieved and opened a decades-old time capsule that had resided in the cornerstone of their old station for over 45 years and contained many items from 1916. In 1965, the company’s original fire station on Newtown Street Road was knocked down and from that wreckage firefighters retrieved a time capsule that was placed there in 1916.

Tennessee fire chief calls for stricter penalties for drivers who ignore ‘Move Over Law’

The Memphis Fire Department chief is calling for action after two firefighters were struck and injured by a driver Sunday morning on I-240 & Kerr Avenue. Memphis Fire Chief Gina Sweat said she wants harsher penalties to be handed down for motorists who cause these accidents. “Firetrucks are big and red, and they have a lot of lights.

VIDEO: Massive fire destroys vacant building in Texas

A vacant building on the Southwest Side was destroyed after a massive fire early Friday morning. The fire started just after 12:30 a.m. at a building along Frio City Road near West Malone. Crews arrived to find heavy flames shooting out of the building. The building eventually collapsed. Firefighters say the building wasn't occupied at the time and there were no injuries reported.

Fire truck damaged after car crashes into a Kansas fire station

PHOTOS: A Shawnee fire truck is heavily damaged after a car crashed through a garage door at the John B. Glaser Fire Station, 6501 Quivira Road, early Thursday morning. Shawnee Deputy Fire Chief Corey Sands says that one of the station’s two fire crews was out on an emergency medical call around midnight, when the second fire crew back at the station awoke to a loud sound and found a car had crashed through a garage door and into the front of their parked truck.

Hurricane Ian: Storm barrels toward South Carolina as death toll in Florida grows

Nearly 2 million customers in Florida were without power early Friday two days after Hurricane Ian slammed into the state, killing at least 12. Florida’s Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie suggested the number could be higher, announcing during a news conference Friday that as many as 21 deaths had been reported in Ian's wake.

Virginia: 'Hall of Flame' championship belt inspires fastest fire department response

VIDEO: Downed power line sparks flames in Florida, fire station bay flooded

Weather conditions in Florida's Gulf Coast are dangerous due to Hurricane Ian -- and authorities are experiencing issues as rain and wind hammer the area. The Naples Fire and Rescue Department posted a video of a downed power line that sparked flames in the street on Wednesday. No one was hurt but authorities shared the footage to remind the public to stay off roads until the storm passes.

City in Kansas adds 24-7 defibrillator called a 'SaveStation' to local park

The City of Overland Park now has a defibrillator available 24-7 at one of their parks, what they are calling their new “SaveStation”. Jason Green, EMS Chief for the City of Overland Park, said this will help save more lives, with everyone being able to use it and follow its instructions. Green said the city’s cardiac arrest save rate is around 42 percent, which is much higher than other Kansas City metro emergency services, and across the country.

New video encourages volunteers to answer the call In Pennsylvania

Just in time for Fire Prevention Month, Doylestown Borough and Doylestown Township have released a new video aimed at recruiting new members for the Doylestown Fire Company. Both the borough and the township ran the video spot at their September public meetings. The video will also be shown on their websites, at the County Theatre and through a variety of other avenues.

Texas fire chief tours modern station in Polish sister city, proposes firefighter exchange

On Wednesday, Tyler Fire Chief David Coble toured a recently-constructed fire station in Tyler’s sister city of Jelenia Góra, Poland. Coble is traveling with a group of representatives from East Texas to deepen the partnership between the two communities. His Polish counterpart led the delegation on a tour of Jelenia Góra’s main fire station, an expansive and modern facility that opened in the last two years.

Assistant New Mexico Fire Chief lands acting role in comedy television series 'The Curse'

Española Assistant Fire Chief John Wickersham will have a role as a Fire Chief on the upcoming comedy television series “The Curse.” Filmed in Española, the show is set to star Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie. According to Wickersham, he was joined by several other local firefighters to film scenes on Sept, 20 and 21 at the Española Fire Department.

VIDEO: Massive junkyard fire sends black plume of smoke into Philadelphia sky

PHOTOS: Crews worked all night to put out the hot spots of a massive junkyard fire in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia. The three-alarm fire broke out around 6 p.m. Tuesday at Sedgley and Erie avenues, sending a black plume of smoke into the sky. Multiple vehicles and tires were ablaze inside the junkyard, officials said.

2 firefighters injured in Texas apartment explosion return to work 1 year later

VIDEO: Two of the three firefighters critically injured in an apartment gas explosion in Southeast Oak Cliff returned to work on Tuesday. Washington fire station temporarily inoperable after $90K in lifesaving equipment stolen

PHOTOS: Grays Harbor Fire District 1 Station 2 has been temporarily put out of service after $90,000 in lifesaving equipment was stolen Tuesday morning. Police were called at 6 a.m. to the fire station located at 1880 South Bank Road for an overnight burglary. Officials said thieves stole equipment such as defibrillators, jaws of life, radios and more from a tender, fire engine, and an ambulance.

Michigan firefighters combat cancer with shirts, hats and mustaches

Retired Ohio firefighter benefitting from new device to help chronic knee pain

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Chuck Stenger loved being a firefighter in New Albany. But after serving for more than 30 years, his career was cut short by his knee. “Started noticing trouble with climbing a ladder, went to an orthopedic doc and was getting shots of cortisone," Stenger said. One day, the pain was so bad Stenger said he fell over while helping a patient.

After keeping fire crews busy for nearly 14 hours, an industrial park fire in Sauget that filled the air with smoke is finally out. Fire crews cleared the scene just before 6:00 a.m. at the Eagle Industrial Park on Mississippi Avenue in Sauget. The Sauget Fire Chief, Roger Thornton, said some crews may return throughout the day to check on a few small hot spots.

Texas firefighter says next-generation pacemaker allowed him to get back to work

World Heart Day is just a few days away, and in honor of that, one Houston firefighter is sharing his story of how his own fellow first responders came to his rescue when his heart nearly stopped. Being a firefighter is not an easy job. But for Engineer Operator Jason Belin, it’s a job he loves but nearly had to quit after he got quite the scare back in June.
