Texas firefighter survives tornado hit on fire station unscathed

PHOTO: It could take well into this week to clear all the downed trees and debris in one East Texas city, slammed by tornadoes this past Friday night. Longtime residents say nothing like this had ever happened in the small community of Hughes Springs, and they are still trying to process the scope of what hit them.

FDNY’s ‘last resort’ rope rescue saves victim during Manhattan fire that injured 38 people

Fire Department in Florida loses fire truck & ambulance to Hurricane Ian, firehouse condemned

VIDEO: Hurricane Ian caused millions of dollars in damage to the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department’s emergency vehicles and buildings, both on and off the island. In total, one fire truck, one ambulance and an alternative response vehicle were destroyed when Hurricane Ian’s storm surge busted into a firehouse that is now condemned.

EMS in Louisiana uses unique lifesaving technique for 100th time

VIDEO: The New Orleans EMS administered blood to a woman shot on Bourbon Street Sunday morning while she was still in the street. They say this is a rare ability for EMS services across the country and saves lives. Thomas Mauro was the paramedic who gave her the blood using a Lifeflow device. He was able to get blood into the victim in just 10 minutes as opposed to the normal 40 or so minutes it can take to get victims' blood in a hospital.

VIDEO: Big rig explodes into flames during police chase on 5 Freeway in southern California

The driver of a reportedly stolen big rig out of Kern County was taken into custody Thursday after leading California Highway Patrol on a slow-speed pursuit on the 5 Freeway near the Newhall area. The truck was traveling southbound on the freeway, going through Newhall and ending up near Castaic Lake, heading into the Santa Clarita Valley.

New York City Council passes legislation to improve equity, inclusion and diversity in FDNY

The New York City Council has passed historic legislation to improve equity, inclusion and diversity in the FDNY. The legislation package requires the FDNY to report on its recruitment and retention efforts of firefighters of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. The department would also have to survey firehouses and ensure they are equipped to serve a mixed gender workforce.

First-responders to carry emergency contraception under new protocols in Michigan

Michigan will be leading the country with new first-responder protocols involving sexual assault victims. Governor Whitmer announced emergency responders will now be provided the opportunity to carry emergency contraception and post-exposure prophylaxis for sexually transmitted infections. The plan announced Wednesday, will also provide EMS responders with sexual assault training.

2 Kansas volunteer firefighters to appear on ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan’

VIDEO: Man killed in septic truck fire on I-95 in Virginia

Virginia State Police is continuing to investigate a deadly crash and septic tank fire that resulted in road closures for Interstate 95 in Richmond. At around noon on Wednesday, Nov. 2, state troopers were called to I-95 near the Belvidere Street overpass for a reported vehicle fire. When units arrived, they found a 2007 Sterling Silver LT8500 septic truck fully engulfed in flames.

California fire district says pilot program resulted in cost savings, fewer 911 calls

It's been a year since the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District added advanced medical providers to its list of first responders. It's a sign of the times nationwide. Scott Perryman is a battalion chief with Metro Fire. "I started in Southern California as paramedic," he said. Perryman loved medicine so much, he put himself through physician assistant school at Stanford.

Normally during November, Pasco County firefighters grow their mustaches to raise money for firefighters impacted by cancer. The mission is different this year as firefighters will raise funds for fellow firefighters impacted by Hurricane Ian.

VIDEO: Permanently closed bar in Texas erupts in flames, has roof collapse, fire department says

San Antonio firefighters battled a fire at a permanently shut down bar on the city’s Northeast Side early Wednesday morning. The fire was called in just before 4:30 a.m. at what was previously Midnight Rodeo, not far from both Thousand Oaks and Nacogdoches Road. Firefighters said when they arrived they found the 25,000-square-foot building covered with heavy smoke.

Blazes That Begin in Homeless Camps Now Account for Nearly Half the Fires in One Oregon City

Just over a month ago, Chris Husbands’ backyard in North Portland was on fire. The 32-year-old builder of custom vans was in Florida on Sept. 17 when a blaze broke out in a homeless camp behind his house in the Portsmouth neighborhood. It tore through dry blackberry bushes, climbed his wooden gate, and lit his bamboo plants up like a torch.

Hyundai recall grows due to vehicle fires

Hyundai has issued a recall for certain model-year 2018 Santa Fe sport utility vehicles as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issues a consumer alert – park these vehicles outside – due to the potential for under-hood, ABS-based vehicle fires. Texas: A visit to one of the 'most haunted' fire stations in the country
